I was in 2 vmcj squadrons with this guy and he has embellished this video quite a bit. The hooch that hit in the rocket attack was a VMA-242 hooch across the street from us...close but no cigar. He was a good 40 yds from the impact area. I have pictures of the debris also. We never went "on patrol" and the Chima Beach pictures were from a squadron beer party.. I hate to see people streaching the truth so bad.
Thank you Nightflyer. I am especially imterested in the booklet which you collected stamps in Expo. I was only a 10 yesr old boy in Hong Kong when Expo was held in Japan. I developed to collect Expo 1970 stamps as my theme after I went to work. I have now posters, entrance ticket, postcards and even a fan from Expo. Please let me know if you would spare the booklet to me cause it will make my collection much more multi-perspective.
Soft ambient sound mixed with period music is a very nice touch. I believe the Expo was in Osaka. It is a nice way to preserve your experience in Asia. I hope you don't have an extreme opinion about the bombing of Hiroshima - it's a very complex one- little known is the fate of US POWs. The name of the B24 crews who were captured and killed in the blast are now included in the list stored under the arch memorial. We must evolve and move forward, never stuck in the past.
Excellent slice of history here. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I have no doubt it brings back memories for you (good and bad), and reminds us of the fortunes we have today as a result of the many sacrifices made yesterday. Thank you for your unwavering service to our nation. And thanks for showing off a beautiful Technics "classic" reel to reel. Great piece of electronics there!!
Thanks for your voluntary service, your unwavering patriotism, your dedication to R/C hobbies, and this awsome video! You are the epitome character, courage, and american life.
I also served, as an aviation ordnance tech though, not in Vietnam of course since I am only 26, but I was in when sep. 11th took place. It was a little scarey but nothing like what you guys encountered. I am pretty sure I woulda crapped all over myself if I wouda been in your boots. Thanks a million for being so brave back then, and thanks a whole ton for making the RC heli vids.. you have helped us all in more ways than one! Semper Fi
Thanks for your service. Loved the vid. I am retired Army. My helicopter went down during a mission and there was 6 of us aboard. 4 were killed and I and another buddy crawled out and medivaced back to the states where I spent a year at WRAMC with two broken legs. Long story but I am doing ok now. Thanks again.
Dave been a fan for a long time and I have never said thank you ! So..... thank you for all the time and effort you have put in on here. I have spent hours watching your videos so I guess I am always faithful.
HEY DAVE semper fi .I done 3 years in okinawa 83-86.what a blast.Really liked your video O how time flies.I really hope you find your friends.I have looked for several of mine and no luck.check out my vids on youtube also rotorwash46 or my buddy helicrasher1000.Again thank you dave as a vetran we have done a hell of a job.AND to all vetrans GOD BLESS YOU ALL.AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Does anyone know the name of the second song in this video is? I know it says where are you by jose salizar but even with searches i can't find anything.
Cool video, and I wish I had more pics from when I was in. (early 70's). Cameras were a controlled and semi-restricted item onboard carriers at the time (USS Saratoga CV-60), as the soviets didn't have a carrier at the time... We flew A-6 and AE-6b Prowlers,
F-4 Phantoms, A-7 Corsairs, S-3 Vikings, A-4 Skyhawks, E-2c Hawkeyes, F-14 Tomcats, and H-53 search and rescue. And an old Grunman S-1 Tracker was the mail plane... Thanks for the great video, and thanks for your service friend...
Dave what a great video, makes me think what I'm NOT doing with my life. You have seen the world, traveled many places, seen things I'm sure you haven't wanted to see, while I sit on my butt and play on the computer uploading videos. YOU SIR ARE A CLASS ACT!!!!!
wow dave thats really awesome my father was drafted in 69 and was sent to korea insted of veitnam he served with the 25th infantry as a UH1 helicopter repairman so helicopters run in my family thanks for serving in the marines i wanted so dearly to join the marines but with my recent health problems that idea was scrapped 5 years says i can enlist but ill be too old then " SEMPER FI"
awesome video life is such a gift thanks for letting us in on that part of your life there are so many stories of a mans life and its experiences that go untold just to vanish with the man in the end thanks for sharing Dave.
To be honest Dave, that was incredible, i loved reading about what kind of stuff you got upto while in the marines. The pictures was incredible! They must be so valuable to you, i appreciate you sharing them with us, Thanks Dave
Hey Dave, my girlfriends dad flew BDA's in F4's from Danag for the AirForce. I'll ask him what unit he was in and when he was there. His name was Maj. Richard DeKing, Thanks for sharing the memries.
Whats the helo on top of your reel to reel player? Looks like a MH-53. I just flew the last ones in the Air Force to the boneyard in Tuscon. Need to get me a model like that.
The AF just took them to the Boneyard in Oct 2008. Now I'm flying CV-22's which is their newest latest greatest. Still behind the Pave Low in regards to user friendliness but it will come in time.
The CV-22 is a plane/heli i never wanna use.. they're just soo dangerous.. if the motors fail, u die.. unless u are hovering above the ground a bit its rare to survive. you can't glide or do auto-rotations.. i love it, but too dangerous.. as soon as they fix that problem i would love to be in the air with one of those.
Not true. It actually flies quite well on one engine. So much fear in regards to these aircraft. Marines have way more of them than the AF does. Been flying them for several years now operationally and only more to come.
wow that must have been amazing to see all those amazing things. very nice video. how it must have been to live like that back then i can only imagine. Anyway, really good video.
I have allot of pictures my father took of Hiroshima and Nagasaki right after the bombs.I need to find a home for them someday,He was only 17 years old in WWII. They wanted him to serve in the Korean war but he was working on the A3J for North American so he didn't have to go.He died of pancreatic cancer at 62.I wonder was it from the bomb.Dave you deserve the best things in life. You have paid for them.Thank You.
