And if the blade derailing was a "safety feature", don't you think they'd just put a safety on it to begin with? Locked or not its still a sharp blade in your pocket. However, the chance that D/a otf knives open in your pocket is near impossible, you have to try to slide them open, it doesnt just happen.
@ibesteadymobbin92 Wow you are one of the first guys to use his brain. Hats off to you, seriously, I am glad their is someone out there with common sense still, most are idiots and can't seem to comprehend the subject matter. A more powerful spring for the trigger and blade causes the locking sears to wear out faster and need to be stronger this is apparent in the Piranha and Harkins which are the same basic design which all basically stems from the Desert Sand Shark in a nut shell.
I checked out the paragon, but after checking out a bunch of otfs, the only one I'd buy is a halo v, and even though the things a beast, I don't really wanna drop $500 + on a knife right now, I already gotta give my bank account a break for a while haha. Back to my comment on benchmade, I still think the pardue folder/auto and the infidel are crap, but I recently checked out a 8600 bedlam auto, and I had to buy it, awesome knife, the quality, fit and finish are definitely there. Expensive, but
Otfs are pretty damn expensive though. I really want a makora, but there's no way in hell I'm gonna pay $450 for one, at least right now anyway. I had a $25 ultratech clone, that was a piece of shit. Sold it. Then I got a Cupid clone, I'm actually pretty damn impressed by it, wicked sharp, and it fires nicely. I'll prolly pick up an akc concord some time, howre those?
@ibesteadymobbin92 What Cupid clone did you buy, the Militia model from me? That is a good model. I would tell you to buy a Paragon OTF for the money instead of the AKC model.
Benchmade=overpriced shitty knives. My friend gave me a benchmade mel pardue folder to sharpen. It sold for $80-$110. It's in rough shape, but the things so damn cheap feeling. I went out and bought a ka-bar warthog with a tanto blade for less than $20. This thing feels tighter, holds an edge better, and has real g-10. Idk what the benchmade has, feels like shitty plastic though. Honestly the only ones that look worth while are the balisongs, and hell, those are way too damn expensive too
I agree 100% its not a safety feature i have 20$ knives that are better than most benchmades im glad im not alone because ive always said that benchmades are overpriced pieces of SHIT a 40$ lightning otf is stronger than the infidel, keep on giving em hell !
@blacksheep21000 See, I am not alone anymore on this matter, seems that people have figured out the scam that Bitchmade has done to guys. Making the points to companies that have shitty products will have 2 effects that no one buys their products and they go bankrupt or that the company pulls things together and start making quality items. I tend to think Les has his head up his own ass and so hopefully they go bankrupt but hey Les you know what that is all about because you have gone bankrupt
You can buy a shitty knife with 440A steel that has a "stronger spring" than the benchmade, but IT is truly the piece of shit, not the benchmade. The benchmade is made of quality materials-t6 aluminum and s30v and it can take a beating (see the video of it going into spruce board and it still fires in/out like new) And as far as the military not using them, many law enforcement agencies have switched from Beretta to Glock, or Glock to Beretta, doesn't mean one is a piece of shit.
@KatotownUSA BULLSHIT IT IS, The Crapfidel is Blade Material: D2 Tool Steel, look it up. The newer models they got are S30v but that is only because I started talking the piss out of them and those are the drop points, mysteriously that they started to make after I pointed out no military or law enforcement wanted a dagger. Compared to any high end like Microtech, Piranha, MOD, Paragon, Dalton, Protech, Desert Knife Works, the Bitchmade Crapfildel is the biggest piece of shit out of them.
@Roadsideimports Gotcha. So will we ever see an abuse test from you with the "bitchmade crapfildel" from you? With this same list of knives? That would be awesome
@KatotownUSA I will never have that piece of shit nor will I ever get one so someone else will have to abuse that crap. I will someday get back to doing videos once the bullshit those assholes at Bitchmade finally comes to an end.
what about the quality of the steel on the knives, keeping an edge, being rust resistant and all? From the test I understand the weaker spring from the benchmade, but is that all you're paying for? What materials are the handles of the cheaper knives and the infidel made of, or the steel-is that why it's more expensive?
@KatotownUSA Microtech uses S30v 154cm and d2 on there stuff, Piranha uses 154cm, and MOD is 154cm as well, Paragon 154cm. All the best stuff out there. The inexpensive models use 440c. That is the blades. Handles on Microtech, Piranha, MOD, Paragon are all T6 Aircraft Aluminum. The inexpensive models use Aluminum on some and Zinc on others. So you are right materials used are a valid point so comparing that needs to be done with USA made one which still kick Bitchmade's ass.
@Roadsideimports I just read up on it and the 3300 infidel by benchmade uses D2 steel and t6 aluminum for the handle as well. For $380, compared to the microtech halo V for $515-550 I don't know if the paper test is enough for me to justify the extra $135+.I'd like to see a test on how the blades hold up once deployed. This to me is more of a test of the springs or quality of the springs rather than a test of the quality of the knives. Will you ever do an abuse test with these knives?
@KatotownUSA I agree. I'm waiting to see a torture test of the knives. As long as the blade comes out and goes back in when the lever is pressed I'm good. Judging a knife by how well it goes through a piece of paper is pointless.
The "good" knives shouldn't pass through anything, paper is thin. Those knives are designed to stop, it's a safety feature. Most double action knives are designed to stop when they come out and hit something. It has nothing to do with the spring being bad or anything like that. THAT 60$ knife and others are just designed different, not better or worse. Just becuase it was designed to be safer, say incase it opens accidentaly in a pocket. THIS DOESN'T MEAN ITS JUNK. Gotta love ignorance.
@803R50 That is such a crock of shit, it is not a safety feature at all, there is nowhere on the producers website that it states it is a safety feature, some idiot fanboy came up with that bullshit and decided this nonsense in his own retarded mind. The design is the exact same genius, nothing is different at all except the components and the quality of the machining and the quality of parts used. So no I don't really like retards that talk shit out their asses.
So, you tested the springs. Good job. That's the most trivial part of any knife. As long as it comes out, it's good. You don't use the spring in a knife for the same job as the knife is for. If you counted on the spring in the knife to do anything BUT extend the blade, you should probably find a different tool... perhaps a gun.
improper use of knife determines its acceptance? pushing a knife to its limits is a good way to showcase ability and quality, but using them in a way never intended and a form of misuse i'm not sure is the best way to separate the good from the bad.
@LT1derland showing that it can not pierce paper is the proof that the spring and lockup is crap. Why don't you watch the other video post where the guy fires it straight up and see that it won't even lock up. Do the research and stop with the nonsense.
@LT1derland showing that it can not pierce paper is the proof that the spring and lockup is crap. Why don't you watch the other video post where the guy fires it straight up and see that it won't even lock up. Do the research and stop with the nonsense.
@newyorkyankeef4n1018 What model are you interested in? I have alot in stock right now and can get you a deal on one no problem, just email me through the website.
You are right, the point to it is to show how weak the springs are. The sear springs on the Crapfidel are so horrible that they do not even engage the knife properly.
Anyone who buys into that crap, needs their head examined and it a complete and utter moron.
The fact is they used piss poor sear springs and can't make the knife right to begin with.
The design is the Desert Knife Works Sandshark, and Bitchmade copied the designed and made the worst piece of shit ever to date other than the newer piece of shit Tumult. Piranha made the Excalibur and copied the Sandshark design and did a great job at it. Bitchmade SUCKS.
The new Tumult is a complete rip-off of the Microtech Ultratech and SUCKS as well, the model is no better than the clone models that sell for $20.
So enjoy your idiotic ideas and live in ignorance while those who understand logic and reason surpass you with enjoyment and more money in their pockets because they didn't waste their hard earned money on OVERPRICED SHITE
@WataAtaCrackah man you are finally the most logical person out there. You are one of a few humans left on the planet with a brain. You give the rest of us that have brains hope that we are not alone with all these morons. And you are right even on their very own website they don't have some stupid safety crap mentioned about it, so the entire notion of safety was made up by the morons on the forums just to defend the junk that they buy.
I have a questain. Do single action knives go through stuff (paper, cardboard......) better than double action? Do you have any switchblades for sale, with out the safety stop? Real switchblades that can go through plywood.
@Roadsideimports K thanks. But do you have any double action otf that don't have a safety. You know the ones that will go threw almost anything, and don't stop when it hits paper... if you don't could you tell me where i could find one.
The Benchmade Crapfidel that is classic, so funny I pissed all over Les D'Ahole when I took my last dump. Bitchmade junk all the way. Why would any guy want a butterfly on their knife?
Seriously, a butterfly on a knife? Why not put "Girl Power" or better yet "Fruitcake" or "Gay" because anyone with any sense wouldn't want a butterfly on their knife get a good logo that is manly with some balls that asserts itself.
@Roadsideimports What's your angle for hating a better constructed knife than the ones you carry? I just went to your site hoping for a great deal, but found only Chinese crap. I don't want some heavy, clunky chinese knife made out of poorly hardened 420 stainless steel. You seem so full of anger toward a legitimate company producing excellent knives...
@domitrias i guess the site u have is much better ? lol i dont kno y some one would take shit about someone elses bussness selling knives if they them self do not have a bussness selling anything . most knives regardless of cost r made in china anyways . not to mention this guy has custom balisong on his site that would make ur moms cunt dip wet
Yeah, now that was some support. I am glad to see I am not standing alone anymore. How do you like those apple domitrias? I don't even have to say anything other than sit back and laugh, that was awesome. Now I will have a smile and my face for the rest of the day and be happy laughing in my sleep. Thanks ironlungdtoker.
im pretty sure that the benchmade beats the fuckin shit out of those cheap china nock-offs in overall quality and in material choices. You are fucking retarded its a safety feature, and why dont you take those shitty cheap chinese blades and stab them through spruce board then see how the springs are working in them. GO FUCK YOURSELF YOU FUCKING DUMBASS. LEARN YOUR SHIT BEFORE YOU TALK SHIT ABOUT A HIGHLY RESPECTED KNIFE COMPANY
@ACLincorperated there is no such thing as a safety feature of that type for any well known otf model, plus this is not the only thing BM fucked up on. And don't the "materials" for BM's knives come imported from China?
I started this and people got all worked up over it.
The test is to show you the spring system, over time a spring will get weaker from the torsion being asserted on it, so in the end the knife with a weak spring to begin with will result in a knife that will fail to lock up when being deployed.
The real morons out there can't seem to figure this one out and like to talk shit, like I forced things through paper and make up all sorts of shit, this is not the case at all.
The fact is that some models that are sold for outrageous prices are complete pieces of shit, lets see, the Infidel by Bitchmade is a complete piece of shit & was marketed towards moron kids. Because if they were truly intouch with their target market then they would have realized that that dagger is not useful at all as I pointed out in the other video I have on their junk they sell.
If I was wrong, then they would not have made the drop point models which they did shortly after my video.
That is the stupidest crap I have ever heard. It takes so much torque to trigger the knife you'd have to be doing some sexual act and dry humping and get your pecker logged in the way of inserting it and catching it on the trigger while the pocket clip stayed tight on your pants.
No I don't sell those, they are a big no, no. Search it and you'll see what they are. Since they project they are classified as a gun and are regulated by the ATF.
Im not a "benchmade fan boy" but i would like to point out that just because a spring has more force doesnt necessarily mean it will last longer. the longevity of the spring comes from the memory in the metal is was created with. you can have a light spring that lasts longer than a heavy spring force is irrelevant... just saying
by the way i like your videos and i agree that $400 for and gimmick knife is rediculous
That is a valid point with the type of material used, but over time regardless of material tension does degrade. The point is still valid that over time the spring action will deteriorate. True some faster than others. With OTF models the knife springs are under constant pressure in the open and closed positions. Then you factor in humidity and environment and things decay even quicker.
what would you say is the best OTF knife that you sell for a somewhat reasonable price? preferably the double action but i suppose i could live with single, i appreciate your input
Some idiot on the knife forums must have stated that nonsense and tainted your brain with semantic blockage.
That is not true at all. There is no such thing as this safety bullshit, no knife company has ever stated that bullshit, only idiots on knife forums who wear their diapers and are nothing more than mall ninjas spouting out their useless nonsense to those who buy into their pathetic ramblings.
@nate660 i own double action otf knives and regular automatics, i see where you are coming from but automatics are easy to open, but the otf versions require a lot more force than you think, i carry one for an edc sometimes and it never disengages because it needs a lot more force than you think to open an otf d/a vs regular side auto
@TH3aznEmperor Yup finally someone who is an intelligent person who speaks the truth and says it like it is. Well, done, best comment response I've seen in a long time. It is hard to drive the point across to people because they are so comfortable being ignorant morons. It is nice to see someone who is smart for a change and who knows what he is talking about.
@Roadsideimports Benchmade infidel vs cheap chinese lightning scarab clone...
chinese clone wins, benchmade should stop production of their otfs before they ruin their reputation even more although i like their folders with the axis lock. I heard someone got an infidel and tried to stab it into their wooden table and the lock disengaged and the blade went into the handle.
That wouldn't surprise me. Bitchmade made a new OTF for H&K called the Tumult, it is a blatant rip-off of the Microtech Ultratech. Bitchmade couldn't even come up with their own handle design, they copied just about every aspect of it and the overall construction of it is worse than a Chinese clone.
The Axis lock is a rip-off of the Dalton Waco. Robbie Dalton had that design before the scumbags at Bitchmade. And now the DMF model by Gerber will hopefully drive a nail in that as well.
@Roadsideimports oh thats why the tumult looked so familiar to me, either way benchmade stole numerous designs from spyderco too, was the afck one of them?
i agree that the infidel is a piece of shit and thats why im choosing to buy a microtech but not every single benchmade thing is bad how bout the benchmade 710?
at the end of the day all these type knives are pointless for tatical use, Fixed blades are the only type of knives that are reliable, im not talking about deployment either, im talking breakages. At very least, use a lockback folding knife. Spyderco has some good tatical blades (folding) that are good value for money
Ah as im typing this i hear you mension the same thing too.
Ps im from Glasgow, you dont sound glaswegian lol, if anything sounds more like a northern island accent
If they had strong enough springs to penetrate and lockup they would.
But you being a Bitchmade fanboy can't see anything other than precious being attacked.
Plain and simple the Infidel is a piece of shit and the spring is piss pour, if it fails to lock up with a piece of paper then it will fail in time with use because spring tension is lost.
THAT IS THE POINT that all you morons don't seem to understand.
Actually, you are incorrect. First off you dont understand out the front knives and the fact that they are suppose to stop. Secondly, i like the microtech otf's more then the benchmade line, i was just trying to inform you that your test was irrelevant and didn't prove anything.
i think the main difference is that the infidel is a double action otf knife and the other one is a single action otf knife so it has a stronger spring in it both are nice knives and would not mind owning either type.
Wrong, the Infidel is a piece of shit. There is only one single action model in this video the Paragon, all the others the Microtech, MOD, Piranha, and the clones are double action.
You must have closed your eyes when you were watching this. The Infidel is the biggest looser on this and it matter because if it has a weak spring to begin with then in time it will loose its tension and it will fail to even lock up, that is the point to this.
Why so angry Ireland boy? You don't like it, don't buy it. We here in America (greatest country in the world) are blessed with that option. Stay on your island if you can't be civil.
I'm Scottish you feeble minded idiot. I am also American and I have plenty of my family members serving in the armed forces because defending the best place is a just cause.
So bite your tongue, you silly Bitchmade fanboy and go post your semantic blockage someplace else.
Well, the spring is a piece of shit that is for sure, if it fails to go through paper in time it will fail to lockup because the spring under tension in time will deteriorate but the idiot Bitchmade, I mean Benchmade fanboys can't seem to figure that one out because they got dropped on their heads as small children to many times.
No you just are too stupid to see the issue. If the knife fails to go through a piece of paper then in time it will fail to lockup and that is exactly what happens. If you start with a piss poor spring then you end up with one that does not work within time. So live in your ignorance and continue to buy your junk.
I can't figure it out either, I think it is apart of the "Don't Ask and Don't Tell" policy of the fruitcakes out there that like queer things with butterflies, thats all I can figure.
Real men don't wear pink and they don't have butterflies on their knives, those in the real world are called sissies and in some non PC places fags, I personally call them pickle-eaters.
So yeah, here's to you Bitchmade and your fanboy pickle-eater crew.
i have a question....when are you going to need to stab through a piece of paper like that in the real world??? benchmade knives do kinda come with a lot of lifetime warranties that other knives dont. knife gets a little dull, send it it...knife breaks send it in, you want them to just check it out and make sure everything is 100% and if not replace the parts...send it in. i dont see any other companies out there taking care of their product/customer like that
Well, seeing that you can't return an automatic directly for repair to Benchmade and that you have to return it to the place that you bought it from to have the warranty work done on it, that does complicate the matter, but you are too busy on the defensive to find the facts.
Then as normal you like to insult the person rather than deal with the facts just like the childish acts of any Bitchmade fanboy, which is a shameful and pathetic thing to do.
hey can anyone tell me what a good OTF would be for a first, i want something with a blade over 3.5 inches, double edged and good construction but i can only spend up to 75$
thats not a fail thats a safety itthe benchmade is sliding off the rails so you dount stabb it though your hands all my BM's and microtech hope off the rail there ment toodo that !!!!
If the spring is weak and can not lock up, then it will be the failure point of the knife. The weakest point to any OTF is the lockup and trigger system.
Most people are too stupid and bent on trying to defend a sissy knife company that puts a gay butterfly logo on their knife rather than dealing with the facts.
But hey I know that if you are a Marine or Army Ranger and carry around a knife with a butterfly logo on it, then it is apart of the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy.
DKW Sandshark video with a 55 gallon drum is a better video. Plus the Infidel is a design taken from the Sandshark. If a company goes bankrupt it voids patents or if they don't take the time to patent things then it becomes public domain. So Benchmade like always can't come up with something all on their own they have to take other peoples work, which is fine, but taking full credit for things is quite chicken shit that's all.
This video is about the opening system to achieve lock up.
omg... do u guys realize that switchblades arnt ment to be held up to something the just push the button to stab it and also y the hell would u push the button held p to stuf?!?!?!?!?! thts just retarded.... thats how u ruin them.
Wow, truly stupidity is a common place these days. The paper is meant to prove the strength of the spring system of a knife. If the spring deployment is weak it will fail in time and use, that is the point to prove from the experiment. But see it is futile to argue with anyone at all that is a Benchmade fanboy because they are like arguing with a Microsoft fan.
So enjoy carrying around your silly knife with a butterfly on it. I would also like to see how many Marines and Rangers carry around knives with butterflies on them but that is apart of the don't ask don't tell policy.
heey man ive worked with knives my whole life maby u hav to but thats still not the point.. thats not wat ther MADE to do i mean press the button to stab someting or watever but u stil have the upper hand cause ive never had that knife not that i want to any ways im into balisongs :o =p
In the paper test, the benchmade should fail, it has a safety mechanism in it that captures the momentum from the knife leaving the body, but if something obstructs that, it shoulkd be a pass
The idiot that came up with this idea is one of the daftest morons out there. It is not a safety feature, the springs are simply weak. In time the spring will fail because of the pressure and use on the sears the model will cease to lock up correctly. But explaining this to people with no engineering skills or mechanical sense is like telling a drug addict that crack is bad.
the thrasher I bought was of low quality (due to build materials). The black coating on the handle peeled off within the first few days. and the tab that the sliding switch engages to fire the blade broke off.
the tab on the avenger is much wider and of better quality. although the spring on the avenger is kinda weak. (I put the thrasher spring on the avenger chassis)
Fair enough. I did just get a new chassis made for the Thrasher, because you are right the tab has been breaking because of the piss pour weld they did on it. So I made a slide chassis out of T6 and then had it anodized, it is one solid piece and high quality. I am working on getting parts made for the models so that you can replace parts with high grade ones and improve the knife.
i just have a general question about the airbourne avenger/ thrasher. Being very similar in design and action, what makes the trasher more expensive than the avenger?
Materials used. The Thrasher is a heavier knife, has a heavier handle and has a black finish blade. These are things that cost more to produce so hence a higher price.
Brief background: managed to get an Infidel when we deployed to Iraq. Toss-up between Griptilian, Stryker Auto, and Infidel... Already had a Griptilian, hated the Stryker... so took the Infidel.
Overall, it performed well for 15 months in the sandbox. Smooth action, nice blade-steel, held a good edge, easy to sharpen, easy to lube/clean.
Still, it's not a combat blade. I only used it for opening mail, boxes, and MRE's... other than that, it was just a toy.
First off a thanks for serving the country is due to you. So thank you Soldier.
Then as far as what you stated that is fare enough because you are the person that Benchmade markets the Infidel to and they market it as a Combat Tactical Knife.
So you answered my video post about the Infidel and its false marketing the item.
So it is an overpriced letter opener. So you follow suit and confirm what the Army Officer said in the video.
This does genius. I seriously can not believe how stupid grown men are sometimes, it is truly amazing to see such stupidity. Benchmade fanboys are some of the dumbest individuals out there.
The fact that a knife can not pass paper shows how weak the spring is in the knife, this is relative to the use of the knife. With time the spring will weaken that is a guarantee. So if a spring is already weak then it will only get worse in time. Now with use it is a given that the knife will fail.
The spring is needed to deploy and lock the knife up securely, this will weaken over time with use so this is the failure point and if it has a cheese ball spring system to begin with then the Infidel will fail you and is not worth $450 period that is why after posting this video the price has dropped to $230 and sales of the Piranha have sky rocketed.
This video is completely relative to maintenance and overall function and the longevity of such items.
You must have substantial force to deploy the knife and secure lock it in the open position. If the knife fails to do this then it is useless and you might as well buy a gravity knife.
Insults come quick most times because it is a Benchmade nut case making semantic blockage comments so I tend to jump the gun.
Plus you show you have balls because you can handle shop talk so that is plus because guys should be able to talk to one another like this, otherwise the knitting circle is the solution.
Firing the knife over and over and over and over is not a real test either because this will damage any spring driven knife because the coils or leaf systems will heat up with excessive abuse and it will cause failure.
Real world operation is firing to open it to use the knife and firing it closed when finished.
If you want to fire it open and closed for no reason other than playing with it then buy a toy period.
Use on a spring will cause it to weaken that is the point and when you start off with a weak spring then it will fail.
The Infidel will fail in time with use because the spring system is poorly designed and it is not worth what they sell this item for, there are much better items on the market in that price range and ones cheaper that will out perform the Infidel period that is the facts whether you like it or not.
If you want to see the internals then watch each individual video.
But maybe a mechanical test could be designed to fire and retract the knives at delayed intervals so heat wouldn't be an issue. Also, introduce other factors such as humidity, dust, debris, and ambient temp variations. Something to simulate real-world circumstances...
Such a test would better illustrate how friction, metal-fatigue, design flaws, and environmental factors might result in malfunction.
But yeah, most people usually just play with their shit.
Yeah, thanks. I know how you feel. Most youtube threads are usually just infantile flame-wars.
Obviously, I'm not here to pick a fight, or i would have - I'm just interested to see some informative comparisons and product reviews. And, you seem like you have the resources and knowledge to provide just that.
Furthermore, thanks for taking the time to explain your points. I'm down to continue this thread - it'll be a nice change of pace from this other shit you've had to deal with.
Ofcourse there are alot of models out there first what is the price range you want to stay in, then it is style and preference, go to my OTF section and see.
Can you tell me why the Makora ii in this video punctured the paper with ease, but the one in this video watch?v=vrv7lPxQtBw does the same thing as the infidel and only punctures it slightly.
His comment about it being a safety feature is bullshit for one thing. He took the knife and had the paper farther away from the handle then I did which would raise the resistance factor. Then I used a single piece of paper and this guy folded it in half. Sadly your are not too observant. This guy was trying to say it has a safety feature that it goes off track which is nonsense all around if he put the paper directly infront of that blade like I did the result woud be the same.
That is bullshit, this is not a safety feature it is simply how the knife works. If a knife has a pussy spring, a spring that has no balls whatsoever then failure of deployment and lockup will occur in the future with normal use period that is the point to all this that the Benchmade fanboy morons don't understand.
There is no such thing as a safety feature of the knife period this statement is completely ignorant.
The safety feature of the knife is the trigger system, the trigger takes this guy two hands to trigger because he complains about it being stiff.
Not true it is meant to have some force against it to deploy so it does not go off, this force simply is the extertion coil system, the stronger the spring the harder it would be to trigger. The weaker the spring the easier it is to trigger.
Use the same force on the action for the Infidel as you did on any of the other dual actions. You waste of space. If you are gonna talk shit about a company do it for good reason, not with unscientific "tests". Failed abortions like you should be taxed to breathe the same air as the rest of us.
And if the blade derailing was a "safety feature", don't you think they'd just put a safety on it to begin with? Locked or not its still a sharp blade in your pocket. However, the chance that D/a otf knives open in your pocket is near impossible, you have to try to slide them open, it doesnt just happen.

Honestly the only ones that look worth while are the balisongs, and hell, those are way too damn expensive too
ibesteadymobbin92 4 months ago
I agree 100% its not a safety feature i have 20$ knives that are better than most benchmades im glad im not alone because ive always said that benchmades are overpriced pieces of SHIT a 40$ lightning otf is stronger than the infidel, keep on giving em hell !
blacksheep21000 10 months ago
@blacksheep21000 See, I am not alone anymore on this matter, seems that people have figured out the scam that Bitchmade has done to guys. Making the points to companies that have shitty products will have 2 effects that no one buys their products and they go bankrupt or that the company pulls things together and start making quality items. I tend to think Les has his head up his own ass and so hopefully they go bankrupt but hey Les you know what that is all about because you have gone bankrupt
Roadsideimports 10 months ago 2
You can buy a shitty knife with 440A steel that has a "stronger spring" than the benchmade, but IT is truly the piece of shit, not the benchmade. The benchmade is made of quality materials-t6 aluminum and s30v and it can take a beating (see the video of it going into spruce board and it still fires in/out like new) And as far as the military not using them, many law enforcement agencies have switched from Beretta to Glock, or Glock to Beretta, doesn't mean one is a piece of shit.
KatotownUSA 10 months ago 2
@KatotownUSA BULLSHIT IT IS, The Crapfidel is Blade Material: D2 Tool Steel, look it up. The newer models they got are S30v but that is only because I started talking the piss out of them and those are the drop points, mysteriously that they started to make after I pointed out no military or law enforcement wanted a dagger. Compared to any high end like Microtech, Piranha, MOD, Paragon, Dalton, Protech, Desert Knife Works, the Bitchmade Crapfildel is the biggest piece of shit out of them.
Roadsideimports 10 months ago
@Roadsideimports Gotcha. So will we ever see an abuse test from you with the "bitchmade crapfildel" from you? With this same list of knives? That would be awesome
KatotownUSA 10 months ago
@KatotownUSA I will never have that piece of shit nor will I ever get one so someone else will have to abuse that crap. I will someday get back to doing videos once the bullshit those assholes at Bitchmade finally comes to an end.
Roadsideimports 10 months ago
what about the quality of the steel on the knives, keeping an edge, being rust resistant and all? From the test I understand the weaker spring from the benchmade, but is that all you're paying for? What materials are the handles of the cheaper knives and the infidel made of, or the steel-is that why it's more expensive?
KatotownUSA 10 months ago
@KatotownUSA Microtech uses S30v 154cm and d2 on there stuff, Piranha uses 154cm, and MOD is 154cm as well, Paragon 154cm. All the best stuff out there. The inexpensive models use 440c. That is the blades. Handles on Microtech, Piranha, MOD, Paragon are all T6 Aircraft Aluminum. The inexpensive models use Aluminum on some and Zinc on others. So you are right materials used are a valid point so comparing that needs to be done with USA made one which still kick Bitchmade's ass.
Roadsideimports 10 months ago
@Roadsideimports I just read up on it and the 3300 infidel by benchmade uses D2 steel and t6 aluminum for the handle as well. For $380, compared to the microtech halo V for $515-550 I don't know if the paper test is enough for me to justify the extra $135+.I'd like to see a test on how the blades hold up once deployed. This to me is more of a test of the springs or quality of the springs rather than a test of the quality of the knives. Will you ever do an abuse test with these knives?
KatotownUSA 10 months ago
@KatotownUSA I agree. I'm waiting to see a torture test of the knives. As long as the blade comes out and goes back in when the lever is pressed I'm good. Judging a knife by how well it goes through a piece of paper is pointless.
eurokid83 1 month ago
Thanks for the great videos by the way
KatotownUSA 10 months ago
The "good" knives shouldn't pass through anything, paper is thin. Those knives are designed to stop, it's a safety feature. Most double action knives are designed to stop when they come out and hit something. It has nothing to do with the spring being bad or anything like that. THAT 60$ knife and others are just designed different, not better or worse. Just becuase it was designed to be safer, say incase it opens accidentaly in a pocket. THIS DOESN'T MEAN ITS JUNK. Gotta love ignorance.
803R50 10 months ago
@803R50 That is such a crock of shit, it is not a safety feature at all, there is nowhere on the producers website that it states it is a safety feature, some idiot fanboy came up with that bullshit and decided this nonsense in his own retarded mind. The design is the exact same genius, nothing is different at all except the components and the quality of the machining and the quality of parts used. So no I don't really like retards that talk shit out their asses.
Roadsideimports 10 months ago
So, you tested the springs. Good job. That's the most trivial part of any knife. As long as it comes out, it's good. You don't use the spring in a knife for the same job as the knife is for. If you counted on the spring in the knife to do anything BUT extend the blade, you should probably find a different tool... perhaps a gun.
TonyGia8679 11 months ago 2
improper use of knife determines its acceptance? pushing a knife to its limits is a good way to showcase ability and quality, but using them in a way never intended and a form of misuse i'm not sure is the best way to separate the good from the bad.
LT1derland 11 months ago
@LT1derland showing that it can not pierce paper is the proof that the spring and lockup is crap. Why don't you watch the other video post where the guy fires it straight up and see that it won't even lock up. Do the research and stop with the nonsense.

Absolute BULLSHIT.

And you are right even on their very own website they don't have some stupid safety crap mentioned about it, so the entire notion of safety was made up by the morons on the forums just to defend the junk that they buy.
Roadsideimports 1 year ago
I have a questain. Do single action knives go through stuff (paper, cardboard......) better than double action? Do you have any switchblades for sale, with out the safety stop? Real switchblades that can go through plywood.
secretjjd2 1 year ago
Yeah, keep the boner up with that pipe dream.
Those are called Russian Pilum Knifes and are regulated by the ATF and get you a nice prison sentence according to them.
Single action are stronger because of the coil spring used. You can upgrade them but it will cause issues with lock up and wear on the handle.
Roadsideimports 1 year ago

I just went to your site hoping for a great deal, but found only Chinese crap. im pretty sure that the benchmade beats the fuckin shit out of those cheap china nock-offs in overall quality and in material choices.
ACLincorperated 1 year ago
@ACLincorperated there is no such thing as a safety feature of that type for any well known otf model, plus this is not the only thing BM fucked up on. And don't the "materials" for BM's knives come imported from China?
WataAtaCrackah 1 year ago
Why are these "paper tests" so popular for OTFs? You open the knife and THEN cut through stuff, right? Reply if I'm just missing something, please.
8RUC3x733 1 year ago
I started this and people got all worked up over it.
The test is to show you the spring system, over time a spring will get weaker from the torsion being asserted on it, so in the end the knife with a weak spring to begin with will result in a knife that will fail to lock up when being deployed.
The real morons out there can't seem to figure this one out and like to talk shit, like I forced things through paper and make up all sorts of shit, this is not the case at all.
Roadsideimports 1 year ago
The fact is that some models that are sold for outrageous prices are complete pieces of shit, lets see, the Infidel by Bitchmade is a complete piece of shit & was marketed towards moron kids. Because if they were truly intouch with their target market then they would have realized that that dagger is not useful at all as I pointed out in the other video I have on their junk they sell.
If I was wrong, then they would not have made the drop point models which they did shortly after my video.

Im not a "benchmade fan boy" but i would like to point out that just because a spring has more force doesnt necessarily mean it will last longer. the longevity of the spring comes from the memory in the metal is was created with. you can have a light spring that lasts longer than a heavy spring force is irrelevant... just saying
by the way i like your videos and i agree that $400 for and gimmick knife is rediculous
chrispuklicz 1 year ago
That is a valid point with the type of material used, but over time regardless of material tension does degrade. The point is still valid that over time the spring action will deteriorate. True some faster than others. With OTF models the knife springs are under constant pressure in the open and closed positions. Then you factor in humidity and environment and things decay even quicker.
Roadsideimports 1 year ago
what would you say is the best OTF knife that you sell for a somewhat reasonable price? preferably the double action but i suppose i could live with single, i appreciate your input
chrispuklicz 1 year ago

@nate660 i own double action otf knives and regular automatics, i see where you are coming from but automatics are easy to open, but the otf versions require a lot more force than you think, i carry one for an edc sometimes and it never disengages because it needs a lot more force than you think to open an otf d/a vs regular side auto

TH3aznEmperor 1 year ago
That wouldn't surprise me. Bitchmade made a new OTF for H&K called the Tumult, it is a blatant rip-off of the Microtech Ultratech. Bitchmade couldn't even come up with their own handle design, they copied just about every aspect of it and the overall construction of it is worse than a Chinese clone.
The Axis lock is a rip-off of the Dalton Waco. Robbie Dalton had that design before the scumbags at Bitchmade. And now the DMF model by Gerber will hopefully drive a nail in that as well.
Roadsideimports 1 year ago
@Roadsideimports oh thats why the tumult looked so familiar to me, either way benchmade stole numerous designs from spyderco too, was the afck one of them?

Double action OTF knives ARE suppose to stop if they meet any resistance during deployment, the infidel did what it was suppose to.
a40ozofjoy 2 years ago
WRONG, you are an incorrect.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
Actually, you are incorrect. First off you dont understand out the front knives and the fact that they are suppose to stop. Secondly, i like the microtech otf's more then the benchmade line, i was just trying to inform you that your test was irrelevant and didn't prove anything.
a40ozofjoy 2 years ago
Bullshit. There is no such thing as a feature for this.
If you upgrade the springs you can go through a steel drum. Look up the Desert Knife Works Sandshark
Second don't assume you are the next Jesus Christ to knives because the Anti-Christ is coming soon.

He is full of shit then.
Panzer Messer Solingen had the design of the top mount trigger 20 years before Microtech was around for one thing.
The notion of safety is bullshit there.
But screw that argument altogether because the top mount trigger is a completely different design.
The Infidel is a rip-off of the Desert Knife Works Sandshark.
Watch the video of the knife being stabbed into a 55 gallon drum.
2 Design do not confuse them they are different.
Roadsideimports 1 year ago
i think the main difference is that the infidel is a double action otf knife and the other one is a single action otf knife so it has a stronger spring in it both are nice knives and would not mind owning either type.
NotAbeaR9 2 years ago
Wrong, the Infidel is a piece of shit. There is only one single action model in this video the Paragon, all the others the Microtech, MOD, Piranha, and the clones are double action.
You must have closed your eyes when you were watching this. The Infidel is the biggest looser on this and it matter because if it has a weak spring to begin with then in time it will loose its tension and it will fail to even lock up, that is the point to this.

i have a question....when are you going to need to stab through a piece of paper like that in the real world??? benchmade knives do kinda come with a lot of lifetime warranties that other knives dont. knife gets a little dull, send it it...knife breaks send it in, you want them to just check it out and make sure everything is 100% and if not replace the parts...send it in. i dont see any other companies out there taking care of their product/customer like that
soldier14E 2 years ago
Well, seeing that you can't return an automatic directly for repair to Benchmade and that you have to return it to the place that you bought it from to have the warranty work done on it, that does complicate the matter, but you are too busy on the defensive to find the facts.
Then as normal you like to insult the person rather than deal with the facts just like the childish acts of any Bitchmade fanboy, which is a shameful and pathetic thing to do.
Paper was important to show spring strength

MoongrassNoel 2 years ago
Stupid people are such the norm these days it is pathetic.
The spring is weak period and it is not a safety feature and whomever thinks this poppycock is completely deceived.
Microtech designs are based off of Panzer Messer Solingen and Benchmade is based of the Desert Knife Works Sandshark.
The spring systems are completely different. Microtech uses an extertion coil where Benchmade uses a leaf spring sear system just like Piranha.
The purpose to the test is to show strength.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago

In the paper test, the benchmade should fail, it has a safety mechanism in it that captures the momentum from the knife leaving the body, but if something obstructs that, it shoulkd be a pass
crazykar3 2 years ago 8
The idiot that came up with this idea is one of the daftest morons out there. It is not a safety feature, the springs are simply weak. In time the spring will fail because of the pressure and use on the sears the model will cease to lock up correctly. But explaining this to people with no engineering skills or mechanical sense is like telling a drug addict that crack is bad.

Great video jb. i always rated benchmade
pretty high'i only have one and its a folder
which seems to hold a guid edge.
I've been planning on buying anOTF,but it won't be the frickkin Infidel.
Goin for the Combat Troodon now ive seen a few vids, yours especially.
Lotta thanks from another Scots lad in Paisley.

Both knives are good quality, correct?
cosmoz1 2 years ago
Yes, they are decent models.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
I buy from JB myself.
buy the avenger.
the thrasher I bought was of low quality (due to build materials). The black coating on the handle peeled off within the first few days. and the tab that the sliding switch engages to fire the blade broke off.
the tab on the avenger is much wider and of better quality. although the spring on the avenger is kinda weak. (I put the thrasher spring on the avenger chassis)
bdash1990 2 years ago
Fair enough. I did just get a new chassis made for the Thrasher, because you are right the tab has been breaking because of the piss pour weld they did on it. So I made a slide chassis out of T6 and then had it anodized, it is one solid piece and high quality. I am working on getting parts made for the models so that you can replace parts with high grade ones and improve the knife.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
i just have a general question about the airbourne avenger/ thrasher. Being very similar in design and action, what makes the trasher more expensive than the avenger?
cosmoz1 2 years ago

I wouldn't spend the money on one.
obiscygma 2 years ago 2
First off a thanks for serving the country is due to you. So thank you Soldier.
Then as far as what you stated that is fare enough because you are the person that Benchmade markets the Infidel to and they market it as a Combat Tactical Knife.
So you answered my video post about the Infidel and its false marketing the item.
So it is an overpriced letter opener. So you follow suit and confirm what the Army Officer said in the video.
You should take a look at my Infidel video.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
Sorry things got deleted by mistake
obiscygma asked:
Could someone please explain to me the relevance of this test?
It seems unreasonable to measure the "performance" of these knives solely by the force at which the blade pops out.
It's not like you're supposed to push the handle against your target and hit the switch....
So as long as it actuates properly and locks securely, the opening force shouldn't matter.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
obiscygma asked:
It would be more useful to compare factors such as functional longevity, blade composition, reliability, and maintenance.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
This does genius. I seriously can not believe how stupid grown men are sometimes, it is truly amazing to see such stupidity. Benchmade fanboys are some of the dumbest individuals out there.
The fact that a knife can not pass paper shows how weak the spring is in the knife, this is relative to the use of the knife. With time the spring will weaken that is a guarantee. So if a spring is already weak then it will only get worse in time. Now with use it is a given that the knife will fail.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
The spring is needed to deploy and lock the knife up securely, this will weaken over time with use so this is the failure point and if it has a cheese ball spring system to begin with then the Infidel will fail you and is not worth $450 period that is why after posting this video the price has dropped to $230 and sales of the Piranha have sky rocketed.
This video is completely relative to maintenance and overall function and the longevity of such items.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
hey, relax. i'm not a benchmade fanboy. it was a legitmate question, and insults aside, i appreciate your answer.
I agree about the importance of having a strong and sturdy operating mechanism, but still, the paper test only shows the force.
*Higher force doesn't necessarily mean higher reliability.
Try testing the knives with thousands of open/close cycles or something. Also, maybe dissect them and compare the internals, etc.
Things like that would be more helpful to the consumer.
obiscygma 2 years ago
You must have substantial force to deploy the knife and secure lock it in the open position. If the knife fails to do this then it is useless and you might as well buy a gravity knife.
Insults come quick most times because it is a Benchmade nut case making semantic blockage comments so I tend to jump the gun.
Plus you show you have balls because you can handle shop talk so that is plus because guys should be able to talk to one another like this, otherwise the knitting circle is the solution.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
Firing the knife over and over and over and over is not a real test either because this will damage any spring driven knife because the coils or leaf systems will heat up with excessive abuse and it will cause failure.
Real world operation is firing to open it to use the knife and firing it closed when finished.
If you want to fire it open and closed for no reason other than playing with it then buy a toy period.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
Use on a spring will cause it to weaken that is the point and when you start off with a weak spring then it will fail.
The Infidel will fail in time with use because the spring system is poorly designed and it is not worth what they sell this item for, there are much better items on the market in that price range and ones cheaper that will out perform the Infidel period that is the facts whether you like it or not.
If you want to see the internals then watch each individual video.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
Yeah, you're right.
But yeah, most people usually just play with their shit.
obiscygma 2 years ago
Yeah, thanks. I know how you feel. Most youtube threads are usually just infantile flame-wars.
Obviously, I'm not here to pick a fight, or i would have - I'm just interested to see some informative comparisons and product reviews. And, you seem like you have the resources and knowledge to provide just that.
Furthermore, thanks for taking the time to explain your points. I'm down to continue this thread - it'll be a nice change of pace from this other shit you've had to deal with.
obiscygma 2 years ago
do you know any cheaper otf knives besides benchmade faggish knives

Ofcourse there are alot of models out there first what is the price range you want to stay in, then it is style and preference, go to my OTF section and see.

Can you tell me why the Makora ii in this video punctured the paper with ease, but the one in this video watch?v=vrv7lPxQtBw does the same thing as the infidel and only punctures it slightly.
Calypso454 2 years ago
His comment about it being a safety feature is bullshit for one thing. He took the knife and had the paper farther away from the handle then I did which would raise the resistance factor. Then I used a single piece of paper and this guy folded it in half. Sadly your are not too observant. This guy was trying to say it has a safety feature that it goes off track which is nonsense all around if he put the paper directly infront of that blade like I did the result woud be the same.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
Yeah, obviously I noticed he did it a little differently. My question was more pertaining to the whole safety feature thing.
Calypso454 2 years ago
That is bullshit, this is not a safety feature it is simply how the knife works. If a knife has a pussy spring, a spring that has no balls whatsoever then failure of deployment and lockup will occur in the future with normal use period that is the point to all this that the Benchmade fanboy morons don't understand.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
There is no such thing as a safety feature of the knife period this statement is completely ignorant.
The safety feature of the knife is the trigger system, the trigger takes this guy two hands to trigger because he complains about it being stiff.
Not true it is meant to have some force against it to deploy so it does not go off, this force simply is the extertion coil system, the stronger the spring the harder it would be to trigger. The weaker the spring the easier it is to trigger.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
They have an inverse relationship.
The harder it is to trigger the stronger extertion coil is used which will supply the knife with more force to have a solid lockup and deployment.
The easier it is to trigger the weaker the extertion coil is and the more likely it will not lock up in the deployment.
Make sense the safety nonsense bullshit this guys talks about is pure shit and should be disregarded as semantic blockage.
Roadsideimports 2 years ago
Thanks for clearing things up, Lol semantic blockage? Raleigh T. Sakers?
Calypso454 2 years ago
No worries, I hope what I said makes sense, I'll have to do a video on this to make it very clear to people.

Use the same force on the action for the Infidel as you did on any of the other dual actions. You waste of space. If you are gonna talk shit about a company do it for good reason, not with unscientific "tests". Failed abortions like you should be taxed to breathe the same air as the rest of us.
