You're getting warmer now- yes in Afghanistan they had to wear a burka and though most women still wear it there are many who don't. Before the country deteriorated from decades of war the women actually wore very Westernized clothing.

This was of course wrong and they should not have done that, but trust me when I say this, Iraq may be in a very bad condition now and may have only very small chance of getting better, but if Saddam was there they would not have ANY! chance for survival. This is an untold story in the U.S.: the fact that so many Iraqis who can afford to leave, are getting out of the country for a while. All because of some horrible conditions there. I didn't and don't support this war and subsequent occupation. It's very cool though for you and your family to give us such an intimate look at day-to-day life in today's Iraq.

The level of ignorance and hate towards you in the us is incredably high and SEROUS because of distorted views against the WHOLE public. I wish that they could go into the homes of the lower-class as well, where they act a little less cosmopolitan, to get that perspective as well, but it's amazing to see life from the perspective of Iraqi citizens going about their lives despite the grim civil war surrounding them.
