Your cage looks great! the plexi glass is a great idea however i dont know how well they are at climbing but could he climb on his house and climb out? if it is possible i suggest you figure out a way to "childproof" that. great ideas though! :)
I need a heat source if I get a hedge hog but I would like to make a cage like yours... is there a way to have a heating source with a cage like yours?????
just use like three more squares. put them on top and... (i dont have one yet but im doing research) and i think u just place the lamp on top faceing down so the heat goes inside... to keep the heat in, place towels on the top :) i hope this helps you
@Twixx252 The Wodent Wheel is actually not recommended by most breeders and hedgehog experts. The stand that the Wodent Wheel is on is not sturdy and many hedgehogs have tipped it over. In addition to this, hedgies poop and pee when they run and an open wheel is preferred for ventilation purposes. (The Wodent Wheel only has small holes and is mostly closed off)
Are yogies good for them because i have a gerbil and he loves them but if you dont know what they are they are little yogert treats made for hamster gerbil and rat
@shelobe Hi im in Texas too, Dallas, and I was wondering about the heating part. My house during the summer, spring, and fall is always in the 70s but during winter nights it can drop below that. i was wondering what you would recommend for that. also i don't remember hearing this in your video but where did you get your wheel?

im planing on finding a new home for my pigs and getting a hedgie i find now and go (canadian made food) is great my cat loves his food and its made with natural ingredients no artificial real meat is the first ingrediant and then its fruit and veg its wonderful!! it does wonders for my cat next thing to get is teh hedgie its the only thing im missing i even have c&c cages from my pigs
@gagajakee111 excuse me why are you jumping to conclusions of thats why im find a new home for my pigs i cannot afford them anymore adn they are toom high matinence they are also older they have a wonderful home now i just cant take care of them anymore so geting a new home for them is helthier than leaveing them in the cage all day because i have no time for them if i had a pet that is nocternal it would be easyier and buying hay fleece pellets chews deoderizers ect is way too exspensive now
@kemanchie im sorry if i have offended you, and if you cant afford guinea pigs then dont even think about hedgehogs, they cost around £100-£150. Also hedgehogs are also high maintenance! just because they are nocturnal does not mean there easier. you have to socialise with a hedgehog everyday also, so it would just be as bad as the guinea pigs.every animal needs lots of care and if you havnt got the time.. why have them.. the animal will suffer x
this is wonderful! thanks so much for posting this :) just gotta hedgehog two days ago and this is definitely what ill be doing, perfect size too! thanks again!
Thank you so much for posting this. I'm going to become a hedgehog mommy, but I'm taking a few months, first, to set up a good environment, and learn all I can. This video, and all of the tips, were great. You have really put a lot of thought into everything. I wasn't too sure about the cat food part, but your explanation makes perfect sense, and it sounds like a decent diet after all. I love how much you love your hedgie. It's a lucky baby!
Could you tell me how large your cage is inside? I'm looking at getting one that's about 7.5 square feet of space inside but I'm having trouble picturing it in my head and I'm not certain if it will be large enough, or perhaps even too large for one little hedgie.
hi, i really like this cage and im planning on getting a baby african pygmy hedgehog. but hes a baby and i think this cage is too big???? im not sure i might use this cage when he gets bigger... any answer??
My question is where did you get that cage. I am thinking of getting one and i wanted it to be happy and have a spacious spot. PLease reply and thanks!
@MarshMallowTimeTime She said in the video that she made it. It's made out of storage cubes that you can buy at walmart and plexiglass. Look up C&C cages for more instructions.
@reconnectedJBieberxx Flying saucer wheels are okay, but you need to get the largest size and only if your hedgehog is not too large. Just keep in mind since they do poop and pee while running, it will fling everywhere off of the saucer.
@sammy121299 They are perfectly legal in Texas. You generally don't want to get a hedgehog from a pet store. Most reputable breeders will not sell to a pet store because their care tips aren't the best. Also, when you buy from a pet store, you're unsure of the genetics so they could have problems later down the line. I don't have one yet, but I've seen the average price around $150.
i LOVE the cage setup you have. i'm so interested in getting a hedgehog and that seems perfect. i was wondering if you have any info on the cage, like where you bought it or who manufactures it. If i could get a response it'd be soo helpful :) thank you!

hey i live in texas too and i really want a hedgehog i have looked up so many care videos and my local pet store sells them but they are running out where should i get one?
I love your video, like you I get angry when I see people not caring for their pets correctly. A pets life should be for their enjoyment not just ours and when your pet is happy you get so much more enjoyment as a parent.
@TheIcantwriteshow I've read that you can, but you should only do it once or twice, and at dawn or dusk. Otherwise it can mess up their internal clocks.
its bad to have a water bottle cuz when the water gets warm a little bit of the plastic gets in the water and its bad for you to drink out of it and then it will be the same for your hedgehog.
Hey quick question. I have had my hedgie Kojo for about a month, and he likes to burrow under the fleece liner. He goes under the liner and in his house are the same time. Is there anyway to get him to sleep on top of the liner? Or should I just let him be. Also, I think you should upload more hedgie videos:D
@whattheheckshotstuff Shittles does the same thing, it messes it up but I just let him sleep under it. I haven't had any luck trying to get him to stop.
@TheIcantwriteshow No they can not sleep in winter as pet's if you see your's sleeping it means it is freezing so put it under your shirt for body heat
Can he get fleece caught on his leg? I'd like to use fleece for a hedgehog, but I don't want loose thread to get around his leg and for it to have to be amputated
@shelobe Thanks for the quick reply and the advice!
Also, what about when the hedgehog goes to the bathroom on the fleece, what do you do? Throw it in the washer, and put a new sheet down? How often do you find that happens?
@Noimnotthatguy He goes all the time on it. Sadly, when he poops on the wheel, it spins out a lot onto the fleece. I have different fleece to put down so I'll wash the dirty one and put the new one down. He can shit it up pretty quickly. I change the fleece about every 4 days.
also instead of clipping my hedgies nails. i just put a finer sandpaper on a ramp in his cage using nontoxic adhesive to attach it. using sandpaper helps keep his nails short and that way i dont have to worry about him twitching while im trimming his nails and accidentally cutting a toe off :\
@hermiesquishydance It depends, normally they don't like having other, especially the same sex. You don't want to put a female and male together because you'll end up with babies. They can get along though, you just have to be really careful.
@popprincess502 I do know the beetles can fly but rarely do they actually fly. I've been keeping my beetles/mealworms uncovered for a year now and have not had one issue with them escaping.
That cage thing isn't appearing on walmart or targets website?? :(
What is the exact name of it? The cage I have now that came with the hedgehog isn't that big. Wouldn't mind rippin off your layout. Actual cages are just so expensive/not much bigger than what I have now
@hypermetalsonic I'm sure you can find them online, I believe they are just called grid shelving. They might be more expensive online but overall, still cheaper than buying an actual cage that big.
@shelobe No prob! Managed to pick one up from Bath and Beyond like ThaSexyTractor suggested. Thanks for this vid though!! Just upgraded my Hedgehogs cage to this :)
I am gonna by a hedge Hog right after I am done my dance competition next monh and was wondering where to buy the cage stuff I live in Calgary so I hope there is a store here that you have there!

also instead of clipping my hedgies nails. i just put a finer sandpaper on a ramp in his cage using nontoxic adhesive to attach it. using sandpaper helps keep his nails short and that way i dont have to worry about him twitching while im trimming his nails and accidentally cutting a toe off :\

@popprincess502 I just tried it and it worked fine.

I'm not assuming the plexiglass comes with the bin setup? Where did you purchase it?
KillerQueen11 7 months ago

That cage thing isn't appearing on walmart or targets website?? :(
What is the exact name of it? The cage I have now that came with the hedgehog isn't that big. Wouldn't mind rippin off your layout. Actual cages are just so expensive/not much bigger than what I have now
hypermetalsonic 7 months ago
@hypermetalsonic I'm sure you can find them online, I believe they are just called grid shelving. They might be more expensive online but overall, still cheaper than buying an actual cage that big.
shelobe 6 months ago
@hypermetalsonic Yah sorry, that is where I got mine. I am sure can find them on the net. Just trying searching grid shelving.
