Lol that's really funny! Just switched to Mac last year- and I love it.
I know someone who had a Thinkpad last for about 8 years or so (give or take) and it would've lasted longer if a faulty charger hadn't fried it. (rapid discharge. rare defect, but rather spectacular. the laptop battery overheated to the point of combustion. so yeah, it went out with a bang))
if it's still alive, google w/o quotes: "ibm t43 osx86"
once u got everything running: u may wanna do your own version of that ad (read: optional) and i recommend u use the ending of the song....(to sound like a happy ending)
My IBM T43 has lasted me over the years and it plans to do so. My PowerBook has since died, same with my black Macbook. Honestly, IBM/Lenovo does better than any other computer manufacturer when it comes to building a reliable product. Now the reliablity of the OS that runs on that product is debatable (I've personally never had problems) but from a hardware standpoint it's hard to beat IBM's utilitarian style.
macbook doesn't even have support for docks, blu-ray... The hinge and battery on mac is probably the worst out there. Apple products have the highest total battery failures, it was made worse by the fact that it is inbuilt. Lenovo have video evidence of driving over thinkpad and they can directly support the weight of normal adult with the lid closed, can the macbook do that? The white macbook has suffered numerous case of cracked case.
Nice Video. I still prefer my thinkpad w500 with 2,93GHz, 8GB DDR3 Ram, FireGL ... over a Macbook Pro anyway and any day. I like the Apple design a little better and I hate the fact, that the w500 has it's line-in/out at the front, but oh well, I can live with that (with a docking station ^_^).
lolz! osx has never crashed on me, or any of my friends. that must be why they're so highly sought after by movie makers/editors, music producers, etc. At my college, the music production majors and video production majors all work with macs because not only are they more reliable, but the software they need just works better on osx. you get what you pay for, end of story. if you want to save money, go with a pc for sure. but don't expect it to last you any more than a year or so.
face the facts? the fact is apple is not powerful enough to run the country. also they are the most unreliable computer on the market. over priced pieces of junk. i used to be a apple person but after spending 6k on them and breaking 3 months or 6 months later i gave up. steve jobs can keep his junk. besides this country runs on pc not apple.
amen , my country runs on PC's also , and after all , apple dosnt make computers anyway , they give a sheet of paper to asus anmd gets them to make the laptops, but because apple wanbst their laptops to be so fuckcing "£ slim and pretty" they overheat , snap , break , bend , flex , thinkpad with roll cage FTW
this country "runs" on windows because bill gates had a good monopoly going for a while in the early days. even now, microsoft forces hardware manufacturers to stunt the power of their machines in order to obtain a HUGE discount on windows licensing...btw you must have never owned a mac...what a far-fetched number...
good for you , id stick with lenovo thanks , they r the best built laptops u can get for the price , nothigtn compares , mac laptops r just tacky very breakable peices of overpriced intel machines , if cant afford a lenovo then get a samsung
i've dropped my macbook from about 3 1/2 feet and all i've got is a scuff on the outer shell...aluminum vs plastic...hmmm. i'm not just a steve jobs fanboi, i have experience with thinkpads. my last laptop was a thinkpad r40 2681: absolute nightmare. not only would it crash on a regular basis, but i went to open it one day, and the hinge snapped right off! they're worse than dells.
lol thinkpads are Pieces O Shit. add windows on top of that, and you have a total clusterfuck. i'd rather use my macbook, with 3.5 inch multitouch trackpad, 17 in 1920x1200 display, dual graphics cards, and NINE HOUR stock battery life (no bs there, pm me if you want proof). Plus, osx works...out of the box! owning a pc is like buying a suit from the salvation army, where as Macbooks are the Kiton or Ralph Lauren Purple Label of computers. no denying it.
Just a question, have you ever used a Thinkpad? A real Thinkpad like the T61 or X200? It sure doesn't sound like it. I use Macbooks and Thinkpads exclusively, and know from experience that anybody who's used both will tell you both have superb build quality (Unibody on the Apple side at least). But, from the sounds of it, you're just another Apple fangirl who can't admit to a quality product outside of Cupertino.
hey fellas you should know ibm isnt jokin' like putting a bitted apple on top as apple does, they are serious you can figure this out since the first thinkpad the same design and it will not change its for business and humor/professional look, and you should know that damn mac air which i strictly holding a contempt for it have no ports except few i know then and no cd-rom to many components are sealed inside i don't remember which parts,
Im on the IBM ThinkPad T43 right now and it just doesn't work for me. My school required me to get it, and sadly, I'm the movie maker/picture editor and the IBM comes with only 30GB of storage! 10GB of which were taken up by school software, so I had 20 left. I had to send it to the company twice to get the charging port fixed and I get the blue screen of death all the time. It freezes frequently also. :( I used up the remaining memory with Photoshop and movie making. battery doesnt last :(
1) your school requires you to get a laptop from 2004
2) you use a T series portable workstation expecting it to work for several hours on the road (with the right battery you get 8 hours off it, though..)
3) your machine was broken when received (on a part that's never broken unless manhandled)
4) you're complaining about a 30 gig hard drive, when you can get a 160 gig replacement hard drive for 80 bucks
@int3rl0per I don't think the year matters. It's true that they should give them real workstation computers like 43p or 60p.
I'm getting the T43 now, just because i don't need other expensive unwanted performance. The main argument for the purchase is durability. I hope it works well as battery/computer too.
get a t60 - or if you like the slim line get a x61 or x300 series. Thinkpads are better than any macbook out there, even the macbook air is miserable compared to the x300
What T43 comes w/ 30GB HDD?!? Maybe this is T40, but not T43. Where did you find this antique? My T43 was bought 2.5 yrs ago and the HDD was 80GB, 256 MB of Video memory which even today is planty to do any Video Editing, I still do it, although for HD video I need more powerful processor, but remember 2.5 yrs ago nobody was talking about HD video...
Well, if his thinkpad fell off, I'm almost 95% sure that it would survive without a scratch. Thinkpads have a great reputation for their durability; once, for example, it was driven into a wall at 30 mph and the harddrive continued to spin; internal protection around the harddrive equates to a much sturdier outside chasis for small accidents where u don't want the product to be damaged at all. Also, if u want, go stand on ur thinkpad. Unless u weigh a lot more than 200 lbs, it'll survive fine.
Lol. Well, 30 mph isn't that fast but I heard somewhere that if u crashed at 20 mph it was like jumping off a 3 floor building. Obviously, the forces are a little different and so it's not quite the same thing but u get the picture. Thinkpads are tougher than most.
Why pay $500 more for a laptop with less HD space, worse specs, and less functionality? I'm sorry, but the Macbook Air is just a poor investment. If you need a second notebook get an Eee or CloudBook.
@mattlittlej The same reason why people buy Apple ipods and ipads, to "show off" that they wasted they money on a white pile of shite whilst thinking it puts them into a niche group of people.
"Oh what's that? Oh it's your smartphone. I have an iphone, it does everything your phone does.... "
"Look, I spent a hell of a lot more money on this phone than you did with you silly cheap-ass smartphone. Mine's just better than yours, oh and it's white, and only like a million other people have this phone, so it makes me special!"
Everything Apple makes can be bought cheaper from another manufacturer and with more features, it attracts people who cant use technology cos it have an easy interface so those ppl now think they can use all tech. They also like getting ripped off.
Honestly, I like Thinkpad too. Thinkpad has the upscale business look and versatile performance. But apple's design fits the taste of younger users better, moreover, OSX is far more user-friendly and visually pleasing than the Windows.
Thinkpad laptops no longer carry the IBM logo due to Lenovo's agreement with IBM. That is a big disappointment for former IBM fans.
