ehh, starlings are usually small and it looks too heavy set to be a grackle and by looking at the size of the bird and the thickness of the beak it's either a crow or raven. I have grackles around my place they can get big but not that big.

my dad says grackles are from hell. theyre carnivorous and can be in flocks of up to 2000 birds. they have cold amber eyes and take on crows in groups. i shoot them down every morning because they killed by injured wood warbler.

This isn't uncommon folks, granted catching it on video, is though. Grackles just like Jays, are known to kill and eat, smaller birds & even mice!!! I've seen a lot, over my 15yrs in the avian field, so this doesn't shock me at all. I've seen Grackles, drown House Sparrows in the birdbath, by using there weight to pin them down, NO JOKE FOLKS!!! While Grackles, Jays, & Crows lack "talons" like birds of prey have, they make up for in sheer beak power alone. A few strong hits, is all it takes.....

This is a Grackle.Starling are insect eaters,they'll occasionally eat fruits or suet but are not into 'attacking' other birds.Their beaks are not made for that.This bird was acting as a scavenger,not an attacker.The biggest part of what people deem as wildlife violence is either misidentification of species and interspecies relationships.Hence a lack of understanding as to what is going on.This is Nature's way of keeping disease under control and not wasting resources.
