AMAZING. I don't know much about the tin whistle (always wanted to learn how to play but could never get it right).. but this one sounds hard to play. This is so pretty.
great! now do it in D so I can play along (just kidding!!)
one of the things i like about your style is your slides and also how you flatten notes occasionally... it's funky
But when I do slides, I find it easier to slide my finger "off", i.e. pull it back. Is that a passable technique?? (I like to cut on a slide too, but that's another story)
So long as it achieves the desired effect, and it is comfortable for you and works for you, its perfectly fine. Rules of tin whistle (or any Irish folk instrument, for that matter) playing does not stress on fingerwork, and the little technical bits here and there. What matters is your sound. Ryan is here to teach you the basics, so you can start playing immediately.
I would have messed up about 50 times before being able to record this solo. Love your variations and ornaments. Very inspiring but just shows me I have a long road to playing better... 50 stars!
This is great! I just learned this song a few weeks ago as a matter of fact. I play it on the dulcimer, but it sounds great on the whistle! I will try to post a response to this with my version on the hammered dulcimer
Lovely tune! Thank you so much for the video lessons for the tinwhistle - I've been having so much fun with it. Haven't really been able to get the combination of cuts and rolls down yet. Do you have any advice on how to become more proficient? Daily practice is an obvious answer, I just wondered if there was any other help.
I don't understand how to play like that.

Hurray! More videos! I've been teaching myself using your video and it's been a slow process.. i'm struggling with the rolls.
Anyways... can I request "Noel Hill's"? I believe it's also performed as "Up Against the Buachalawns" as well (and many other tunes as well).
Hope you can manage doing that song sometime :)

The way you do it is not important.
So long as it achieves the desired effect, and it is comfortable for you and works for you, its perfectly fine.
