Actually, what you're seeing here is the escapement mechanism, the hammers, and at the bottom are the dampers.

I have this exact track in a midi file! sockhop.mid - it came with an old sequencer software I had in the 90s from a company called Midisoft. Original file had drums and some other instruments but replacing those with piano sounds really cool! Nice job. Is this piano outfitted with midi then? :)

I believe that's the dampeners, the artist is tapping the echo key *the name evades me* so the sound is prolonged but not to the point of echoing completely.

how do you open your upright

open the lid of the piano. remove the locks on both sides inside the piano so you can remove the top after that remove the valve, hope this will help :)
