  • I had no idea that this song had originated from jazz... My grandfather taught it to me as a country music riff and thats all I've ever known it as. It's soo cool to learn the history of this cool tune :)

  • greatest sax solo EVER! BY CLIFFORD SCOTT.

  • Wicked cool!

  • Simply a masterpiece! I grew up with this and when I hear it it's like yesterday in Cedar Grove, NJ at Bond's Ice Cream Parlor (1957) where I spent more time than I did in my own home.

  • The Number One Song in Houston, TX from 1959 to 1961, I left for the Navy and when I got home it was the best Dance tune around town. I am White but I went to all the Clubs, it was the most requested song Period. I still can not get enough of this Song. Old but not Dead. My feet still keep on Dancing.....

  • Great dancing music

  • @guitarvapor the guitarist's name was Billy Butler he passed away in Mar. 1991.

I was ship's company and realized after I was discharged that those days were some of

my best and still proud to have served about that ship.

  • @TheForrestal

You should be proud. It was a great ship. Those were interesting times.

  • @TheForrestal

You got that right friend. I played it alot in the 60's and I flew helos off the Forrestal

  • A staple for any one who truly loves music...you can feel the vibe as they put it down on this recording....make you want to jump to your feet and just rock back and forth!

  • How about a tip of the hat to guitarist Billy Butler and saxophonist Clifford Scott? They really make this!!

  • I still remember going to dances at the armory as a young thing and walking through the door the the throbbing bass of this tune and "Sea of Love," feeling the music of the live band covering the tunes wash over me and the bass pound through to my spine. The girls wore beehives and ski pants and the guys had pegged jeans. The place was smoky, sexy, and usually hot and damp from the bodies moving to the music. Those were some amazing times....

  • THAY, DONT , MAKE MUSIC LIKE THIS ANYMORE,I PLAY OVER AND OVER,, I AM 67, AND STILL LOVE TO DANCE TO THIS,, CANT BEAT THIS MUSIC,

  • @monkeystreacher I rarely comment about my personal opinion on songs, but this is one of my "desert island" songs...it's going with me.

  • @Nocaro ..my mom and dad used to dance to this in the living room when i was a little girl......i miss my daddy.

  • @monkeystreacher 66 AND RIGHT BEHIND YA!

  • This still sounds so great. I can remember dancing to it at the teen club.

  • I've been around for 66 years & I think this is still one of the best songs ever. Both parts.. No one could ever compete with Bill Doggett. Wish they made music like this today. I don't listen to the radio anymore. I'm a 50s & 60s kind of woman. Thanks for posting this great classic......

Ok boys and girls which will it be? THE DIRTY BOP or THE STROLL?

  • @JamesA46 Dirty Bop all the way James. I remember dancing to this both a slow jitterbug and the dirty bop. When this song played, you just could stay seated.
