Hi.....I've been watching some of your posts and I really like it that you are so in touch with your dutchness (LOL). There is just one question I HAVE to ask you : Have you ever been to 'de Efteling'???? If you want to experience the dutch way, you just have to been there once in your life.....de groeten uit avenhorn!!!
Props for being half-Dutch and +1 for actually appreciating it. Oh, and the Dutch food is not awesome, it's been the same since the year 1100. Just consists of cooked potatoes, meat, and vegetables (and not the nice ones:D)
BTW: you look like a dutch college of mine:D Some far away link perhaps?
Potatoes were brought over to Europe by the Spanish from South America and became popular amongst the starving lower-class, so that's kind of impossible, but I believe you about the meat and vegetables.
small correction, like to teach you a little :) It is "groeten uit Nederland", not "groeten van Nederland". You pretty much say "greetings of Netherlands" roughly translated :p
Mooiste taal in Nederlands is Twents. Nedersaksisch Geen harde rot GGG of eind-r. Geen inslikken van eind-n maar lekker duidelijk.
Don`t worry about your Dutch, you try and have fun with it, so whats there to apologize for. :) Its nice how you show an interest in your heritage (is that the right word?).
BTW, anybody here ever heard the American footbal (soccer actually) player John O'Brien speak Dutch? That sounds perfect! Really amazing, it must be a pretty hard language for Americans, as I have learned from watching the clip "Het Nederlandse Accent."
You don't have to apologize for not being good at Dutch. That you try to speak it is more important. Many English/American people don't try to speak foreign languages, as far as I know.
awesomeness, i have friends in utrecht and Roermond , i live in New York, i went to visit them twice and i absolutely loved itttttttttt!!!!! one of the best experiances of my life. next year i am going to visit family in Cologne Germany and i hope to go see my friends in NL at some point while im in europe still xD , good fun.
@Prepoceros I once heard the joke that the english word for Celcius is "should have been fahrenheit" but like... to my logic that is the other way around (A) Fahrenheit is strange ^^
And yeah, it has been waaaaay toooooo hooooot lately in the netherlands... and the scientists still try to fool us that there is no global warming^^
Glad to hear everything went well. The jet lag in an easterly direction sucks, imho. As for smells, the Dutch don't just smoke cigarettes... smelled anything particularly spicy yet? Enjoy your time. (=
@Prepoceros
Your Dutch accent is pretty good!!

90 degrees? I don't hope so man :|
Its mostly here in Holland (when its summer) 20 to 30 degrees.. not 90
Bodomlalala 4 years ago
That would be 90 degrees Fahrenheit, which is in the low 30s Celsius.

@Bodomlalala Das in graden. In Amerika wordt fahrenheit gebruikt. Dus 90 degrees is ongeveer zo'n 30 a 35 graden. Dus het klopt wel :)
