maybe the songs just referring to all the great whose been dumped on by nashville since country has gone pop and waylons friend is referring to the guys he seen it happen to maybe the songs about buddy holly waylon was buddys bass player and was on tour with him when he died buddy was having marital and profession problems aswell. waylon would have died too that night if it wasnt for him giving up his seat to ritchie valens

midnight in montgomery by alan jackson was released in the 90s the eagles wrote seven bridges road that songs about hank sr gavesite and just because a song is released in 1998 doesnt mean it was written in 98 hank jr has written lots of songs about hank sr moe bandy has too and all these songs came out long after his death. waylon wrote the song "the hank williams syndrome" long after hank had died

research hank sr youll see all the stuff in the song is true to his last few years up until his death. even if the song isnt about hank its pretty much about all the old guysyou dont hear them on the radio or see them on tv until they die then there heros and pioneers hank jr is the only one you ever hear about hes my favorite country sing but i only listen to him from 1964 -1986 hes a sell out now and kid rock is just a name dropper. lots of songs have been written about long after his death

@theoposum10 Thanks for the input but I'm not sure that is the case. In the forward to the song, they say it is for a friend that passed away that year which would be 1998 or possible 1997. Considering Hank Sr passed away in '53, I'm just not sure who it is. I also have to factor in that Shel wrote it and I believe his earliest recorded musical composition was in 1968
