honestly the reason the alaskan crab fishing is dangerous is the total pool of quota and all the boats fighting over it, and the season seems to open no matter what the weather, here with seasons in anything that only lasts a few days get postponed if the weather is bad, not forcing boats out for no reason.

Lobstering in Maine is like a small version of this but just as deadly...constant risk of getting pulled overboard with the traps and we go out in weather that is comparable to their 200ft boat in 40ft boats, haha. In the winter it's fun to chip ice off the deck and your face. Though, crab fishing is pretty crazy.
