Jeff Lynne y George Harrison a parte de ser los mejores amigos, estuvieron juntos en una banda llamada The Traveling Wilburys. Ellos dos sumaron al grupo además a Tom Petty, Roy Orbison y Bob Dylan. Maestros!
this George Harrison/Jeff Lynne version of this song is a sort of prayer for me, and a companion prayer to Nick Lowe/Elvis Costello's "What's so Funny 'Bout Peace, Love and Understanding".
And what a beautiful prayer it is, with Jeffs warm, wonderful voice and the outstanding performance of the others, and, of course, the amazing songwriting skills of George Harrison :-)
It is dawning on me that George has come up with possibly the best consistent original writing of the quartet, especially as a solo artist. It comes out structurally and in terms of lyrics when arranged faithfully on this level. "Abbey Road" has so much of soul in it, which probably gives it that transcendent quality that reaches beyond what you can really hear. Listen to the whole tribute concert and think about it. He was just a retiring personality by nature.
i cant believe people fault this performance from the great JEFF LYNNE.This was a brilliant honour to do this for his best mate, George Harrison.Jeff lynne has a new album out this year, cant wait as it will brilliant as usual from this true Legend in every sense of the word
George Harrison died of cancer: the chronic metabolic disease that has metastasized into the biggest hoax ever perpetrated upon the people of Earth, surpassing the carnage of war, earthquakes & car crashes.
Kids today don't enjoy the melodies and harmonies that people like George Harrison and the writers composers of his generation gave us. Rap and Hip Hop has no tune you can sing in the shower. The melodies and corresponding harmonies they discovered were so sweet. I've thought for some time that harmonic melody is truly a gift from heaven. Before WW2 the Japanese only had a pentatonic scale to compose from. It was the Americas, Blacks and whites that created the blend so beautiful to the ear.
Jeff Lynne was George's best friend. I don't know how they can do this concert without crying. And looking at George's son is like he's there too. Jeeze what a time it was. It was a time. Being born 1950 and growing up with these greats!!
Thanks for everything guys. God bless George and Billy Preston RIP....
He is Marc Mann.... awesome session player who played on many Harrison albums. He plays Georges solos note for note just like the originals.....He takes great care to preserve the Harrison sound on all the songs....Isn't he awesome!!
@comanchio1976 I'm not a professional music critic. I'm just a disabled vet who barely passed high school. I can't explain right in words why I think he sucks. It just not as good as his ELO stuff.

-Gary Allen, from his book None Dare Call It Conspiracy
@ewita41 This passage is from The Companions of Jehu--page 396--"You are ninnies! I have cheated all the time we've been playing, and you never found out. Those who lost can take their money back." Born and bred in the Catholic faith, Bonaparte had no preference for any dogma. When he re-established divine worship it was done as a political act, not as a religous one.

Their task is to develop a philosophy of futility and to follow orders while focusing their attention on more superficial things which comprise much of fashionable consumption."
~ Walter Lippmann (Pioneer of Propaganda) (1922)
@leedrennan - Marc Mann. And apparently he isn't just a great guitarist. He plays keys and produces. George loved his playing. It's odd, you won't find a lot of information about him on the internet, but he goes back notably to Oingo Boingo
@mjedgerley Yah, it is odd. I remember him from ELO's Zoom tour (which sadly never happened). I think he's also the guitarist playing on Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed "Summertime" here on Youtube (although younger... and without that cap).
I think he did great--reaching an audience that may have prejudice against the Beatles---God! help us with our prejudices! We are s-o-o-o blind!! If only we could understand-
@GonzoGuyy Probably has a lot to do with what else they were playing on those guitars and what chord shapes they were more comfortable with. Looks like they were both playing pretty standard shapes so probably both in standard tuning.
Great intro. And Jeff Lynne has many "different voices". Listen to "Rain is falling" or "Rockaria" or "21st century man" or this one. He adjusts his voice to the essence of each song.
Harrison really wrote great songs, with many gems and beautiful details. In this one - a great slide-show, for instance. And the syncopation at 1-10-1-14.
Jeff is just great. One of the producers of the Beatles anthology albums, plus he produced some George's and Paul's albums. John Lennon indicated that ELO (Jeff's former band) was what the Beatles would be after the Beatles. And he kept his hair style since the 70s, and those shades!
God bless you Jeff Lynne. I have listened to your music since I was a kid growing up in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the 1960's. You're a national treasure.
Hi, hate to burst your bubble but Jeff layed down the vocal track in the studio during production for this song. The original is well, lets just say not his best by a long shot.....pretty sad.
