I was speaking to a Marine Mechanic today, who says Mercury is now the best Motor, because the Hondas, Evinrude, Johnson, are now corroding too fast. I'm looking for info on the best of the best, & I can't find much bad info on Mercury

if you want to get there first you buy a mercury if you always want to get there and get back you buy a yamaha and i dont know about honda but i hear those are good engines and i never see any evinrudes on the water so they are problay to expensive or they suck

@mrpierce1000 Got news for you. Yamaha and Mercury are the same powerhead except in fishing motors.

The Merc fishing motors are Tohatus.

@mrpierce1000 well my brotherinlaw said the same thing , than yammys were the best , till he went and bought one and it spent most of the time with trouble , he then went back to a merc and quickly changed his mind , i agree i like both mercs and yammys , but my merc is awsome.and as a mate of a guy who runs a fishing charter up the top end of oz, they all changed from yammys to eteks they lasted a few months now there back with yammys, the eteck isnt a comercial motor. oh god my spelling is bad

mercury rock and for someone who said, the jet drive was made by johnson fuckin idoti it was mercury i have a 67 40hp joson NOT JET UNIT and a 67 4hp engine JET UNIT BITCH, and i never taken my racing mercury into service unlike my 235 checkmate

I have a mark 28 super hurricane that still runs fine at over 50 years old id say there pretty reliable

OMC (Johnson/Evinrude) first came out with the Prop-Hub exhaust and the V-4s. V-4s were more reliable and lasted longer because oil could easily circulate to all the cylinders. The older Mercury's were notorious for blowing out the top cylinder due to lack of oil in the in line 4 and 6 "power of towers."  That's one of many reasons why you see a whole lot more older OMCs than Mercurys still in use today. Johnson/Evinrude rule!!!!
