  • Very helpful video. I am converting from protestantism to Orthodoxy this year so this is a good video to find. Thank you.

  • As a recent and only English speaking convert to Orthodoxy I really appreciate this... thank you for posting it

  • Pope Leo III opposed including the filioque in the Creed. He had two silver shields with the original Creed engraved in Greek and in Latin displayed in St. Peter's Basilica by the apostle's tomb.

  • First off we dont reject church teaching on anything, which means were not heretics. Second eve if we were heretics, you should be okay with that, since the man you claim to be your authority praises heretics like Martin Luther and says that heretics and schismatics are IN the church! wake up and pull your head out o the sand!

  • Everything that belongs to the Father has been given to the Son. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father .....AND THERFORE also proceeds from the Son. To deny that is to be a heretic. The papal see is vacant, Benedict XVI and his 4 predecessors were in fact heretical antipopes, HOWEVER St. Peters LAWFUL successors have his same divinely ordained primacy and jurisdiction. Covert to the one true Catholic Faith outside of which nobody at all is saved. Visit vaticancatholicdotcom

  • @truelightwitness You sedevacantists are just a bunch of heretical protestants.

  • @truelightwitness "Everything that belongs to the Father has been given to the Son".

So, the Father cannot be the only one who Begots. Since he gave all to the Son, then the Son also Begots the Father. Do you believe that? Yes or No? If you say yes then you are in a terrible heresy, condemned by every christian denomination. If you say no then you accept that some things are done by the Father but not by the Son (not because the Father is more powerful, but because they are different Persons).

  • @truelightwitness Where is the filioque found in Scriptures? It's not. The filioque addition goes against the decisions of the Seven Ecumenical Councils. There can not be two sources , only one the Father. The only accepted catechetical explanation allowed is "through the Son". By changing the Creed, the Latins made a canonical error.

  • Ortodox is the true faith.. peace from ukraine

  • It is good your son is getting baptized, I am thinking about becoming an orthodox christian..forgive me if my rebukes were too harsh and not said in love.. look all I know is this..there is deception out there watered down faith, churchs that put on a concert, men left to their own devices to make church how they see fit... I want more than a concert i want the church that jesus planted the one that the gates of hell will no prevail against, i want to be united with Christ thru communion.

  • I'd like to say clearly to all as the up-loader of this video: I'm am NOT a scholar, expert, historian or priest. I do NOT represent the Church in ANY official capacity. I would NOT choose myself to do such. I'm just a guy who is Orthodox and uploaded this video. I will help answer questions to the best of my ability. My son is to be baptized today and I thought of these videos and how I may have turned away the curious by my amateur level of debating with non-Orthodox. Seek official sources.

  • then act like a christian..many will come to me on that day and say lord lord he will say depart from me i never knew you.. my advice is dont be so sure of your salvation just because u attend the original church.. the pharisee believed beyond a shadow of a doubt they were saved but they were the farthest from it. Sometimes we believe that we are so much better than other but the bible says we are like filthy rags before him.. your comments about the west being uneducated was not christ like..

  • My question is this if the orthodox faith is the true church and mostly are from eastern decent so does that mean only greek and eastern people recieved salvation from the time of christ? I cant get past that the orthodox is a pretty unknown faith so what happend to those that died and never knew the orthodox I thought christ died for the world? no just greek, russains serbs, etc.

  • @marmolejomarc The Orthodox faith is not unknown. With 350 MILLION followers, only uneducated peoples in Western Protestant nations don't know us. Also, we are the original Christians. The Bible is in fact a Greek/Byzantine book; we put it together for our Church. To this day our Priests read from the original ancient Greek in Church. Orthodoxy has little to do with any ethnicity. Greeks, like Jews happened to be the peoples of the faith. It's not about race at all.

  • @nikoz78 its self righteous so called Christians like yourself that keep non believers out of your church the orthodox is unknown even your own priest admit it! in documentaries I have been researching the orthodox faith for sometime. What makes you so educated and westerners not educated your self perception is distorted.. If someone was weak minded and truly had an interest in your church with your remark would have kept them from exploring your faith..and race has everything to do with it.

  • @marmolejomarc I apologize. I feel under attack a lot (defensive). I was born and raised in Texas, not Greece. I know for a fact that only educated Americans usually even know what the Byzantine Empire was, much less the fact that Orthodoxy is the original Church. The facts are clear on this. What you may not know is that the Catholic dominated western world has diligently defamed and suppressed all knowledge of Orthodoxy in "western" nations. Catholic renegades, like Protestants, do the same.

  • Respond to this video... If race was not a factor then why is 90% of the people who are orthodox serbs, russian, or greek in the churchs and i have visited these churches myself not many blacks or mexican people in the church I was the only hispanic..I still believe their are good Christians out side ur faith who die for their faith in christ.. who ever is for us is not against i think thats what my buddy Jesus said when they say other people casting out demons in his name..

  • @marmolejomarc You don't understand this intellectually. I don't have space for a full history lesson. Native Americans (both South American and North, today's 'Hispanics') were genocided by the white Spaniards. The indigenous religion destroyed and your ancestors were forced to speak a white language, Spanish. This is why most are Catholic (the religion of Spain). But the Orthodox Church is the ancient Church, unbroken. This is a historical fact.

  • @nikoz78 There u ago again acting like ur some smart scholar tell me something I dont know I know all about the Spaniards and their conquest. I am half Spaniard by the way. So far u have done nothing to convince me u are any better of a christian that other actually I have seen far better christians that are not orthodox..

  • @marmolejomarc Well, I'm not acting like a scholar; because,as you know, I'm not one. Look, it's not about trying to convince you of anything. But the historical fact is is that the Orthodox Church is literally the original Church. As a faith, we don't try to convert anyone. People find their way to us by God. Christianity is as much Greek as it is Jewish. The Patriarchate in Constantinople is literally the last OFFICIAL unbroken "office" of the genuine Roman Empire. We ARE the only real Church.

  • @marmolejomarc Historically, Greek Orthodox described all Orthodox, since 'Greek' Orthodox refers to the Greek heritage of the Byzantine Empire. During eight centuries of Christian history intellectual, cultural, and social developments in the Christian church took place within the Empire or in the sphere of its influence, thus the traditions and practices of Constantinople were adopted by all. The appellation 'Greek' was abandoned by Slavic churches in connection with their national awakenings.

  • @marmolejomarc Reason race is an issue is because of the persecution The Church has been under for ages. And those are the *national* boundaries it has been able to reach thus far, since Rome split from Orthodoxy, and started working on destroying Orthodox influence in the West. I'm Irish, and Orthodox. I have a friend who is Mexican, and so were his parents, and Orthodox. So...your point is?? Got an idea for YOU...why don't you take some of your own medicine, and start acting like a Christian!

  • I'm proud to say I'm orthodox christian, mainly because we,as a religion, never forced anybody in our entire existence,to leave their believes and join us,all of the people who embraced orthodoxim have embraced it with their souls and hearts,NEVER with their mind or because someone said them to do so.

    Regards from Romania.

  • I think that greatest differenhce between cath.church and orthodox church is that o.church does not struggle for money and political power as cath.church does ... thus orth.church is the real xtianity while cath.church is talmudised xtianity so infact its synagogue of satan(or part of it)

  • This is great. I am honored to say i am Orthodox. To all the Orthodox churches (Greek, Russian, Albanian, Antiochan, and all the others) keep up the true faith

  • thank you for posting , God bless Orthodox from Ethiopia!!!

  • im proud to say im macedonian orthodox

  • Thank you for posting this video. It's nice to finally see some truth on youtube.

  • I am a Baptist pastor. There are reasons why I believe in the doctrine of my faith. Yet, I am moved by the rich history and unbroken line of the Orthodox faith. This series has given me plenty of food for thought. Thank you for posting this and may the Lord bless your work.

  • @nikoz78 Orthodoxy is Ecumencial , Catholic, Global. That's why some people dislike the term Greek Orthodox, or even Eastern Orthodox. Greeks did a lot to preserve the Faith, but most of the traditions emerged from Judaism (with the Church being continuement of the old testament church). Those that were asking for the title to be changed were not hating, neither were they asking for it to be changed to Serbian or Russian orthodoxy, they just wanted for the Faith to observed as something global.

  • @nikoz78 Haha..classic..

  • I like how the Orthodox don't say that Protestants, Catholics, and Seventh Day Adventists are going to hell because they don't know what the Bible says. They say that one can go there and be saved. But I do love how they honor all of the Ealry Church's sacraments and traditions. One of the reasons I am thinking of converting.

  • this was a wonderful series, presented in a clear cut manner, non threatening and with just facts, it even gave a sense for the future...wonderful....thank-you!

  • Yes he is absolutely right, straight up, the whole world needs to hear this.

  • The most quality spiritual food for soul, that man can get is Christian Orthodox Church.

  • Orthodox is the only true religion ,other's came out to fight with it. if you wanna live in heaven be ORTHODOX!

  • I agree with you and it was the apostle mark who brought christianity to Africa and spawned the alexandrian(coptic) orthodox church and the ethiopian orthodox. mark was educated in greek and that was the language of most of the educated world. much love to orthodoxy

  • oh and that would be @ :23 seconds into the video.

  • he is not flashing any number. this sign means IC XC. wich is short for Jesus Christ in the ancient greek language. STOP believing in that ZEITGEIST nonesense.

  • Your funny why do you pretend to know something you dont?

I dont judge you because by your statement your coming from a heaved up faith that falls short regarding the Truth!

Just because you dont understand doesnt make it wrong. Let your ego go :-)

  • God bless you all my friends.

  • If you think it is correct to use the term "greek orthodox faith" then why in the other videos in youtube , they say "introduction to the orthodox faith " and not "introduction to the greek orthodox faith".

  • Yes of course i will ask the fathers in mount athos , and you must accept whatever they will say . And if you do not believe me, then you can ask them yourself, or you can send a letter to the church of Greece and they will make it clear for you . In the meanwhile , instead of judging me all the time ,confine yourself to judge and criticize only yourself .This is the orthodox way .

  • As far as concerning the "hate"that you said , this is your own assumption hahaha.

  • The "Pistevo" says ¨...I believe in one catholic and apostolic church ..." it doesn't say "i believe in one greek orthodox and apostolic church" hahaha. So...like i said in the beginning , change the title from "greek orthodox faith", to "orthodox faith" , or "eastern orthodox faith".

  • "hahaha" is not helping you appear more like an intellectual. Anyway, the Nicene Creed (also known as the "Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed") was created inside the Greek Empire of Byzantium. It was in Greece that Christianity first gained a foothold and in Greece where it was first made an official (legal) religion. Christianity is forever marked by Hellenism. It developed in Greece. It's precepts and bylaws developed there. When Rome was still steeped in paganism, Constantinople was Christian.

  • @tsolos26 Catholic meaning United "Correct" not Roman Catholic haha

  • @5692Nate21 Catholic means Universal !

  • Like i said before, there's so such thing as "greek orthodox FAITH".Keep hallucinating hahaha. Neither wikipedia nor any other book has the term"greek orthodox faith"."Greek orthodox " yes , but not "greek orthodox faith". The faith is not greek and will never have ethnicity colour .The faith is the orthodox faith .

  • The term "Greek" in "Greek Orthodox" DOES NOT imply ethnicity anymore than "Roman Catholic" implies Italian ethnicity. The Orthodox Faith is HELLENIZED. The Serbian Orthodox, for example, ARE Greek Orthodox. My Church is called the "Hellenistic Orthodox Church." There ARE ethnic Greek Churches made up of Greeks, but you fail to see the difference. Why are you so obsessed with hating ethnic Greeks? How can you be Orthodox and hate Greeks? Learn about the Easter Roman Empire. YOUR nationalistic.

  • You have just exposed yourself as a hater of Greece. Thank you.

  • The Church in America is under the DIRECT control of the Patriarch of Constantinople. So I guess the LEADER of the worlds 350 million Orthodox Christians is WRONG and you are RIGHT?

  • @nikoz78 Ecumenical Patriarch is certainly NOT THE LEADER of the Church.Bartholomew is as much as head as is your or mine local bishop. Dogmaticaly all bishops are equal, but practicaly he is deemed first among the equal of Greek Bishops, and first among the equals of all Patriarchs, all this for easier managment. True leader of the Church is Jesus, through Holy Spirit, and through the fulll ecllessial body including all bishops. Great video though, thanks for upload, God be with you.

  • you keep on your fallacies...whatever, i will transfer your comment to the father in moutn athos and then we will see who needs a history lesson greek american .

  • WIKIPEDIA: "Thus, most parts of the liturgy, traditions, and practices of the church of Constantinople were adopted by all and still provide the basic patterns of contemporary Orthodoxy.[26][27][28] The term Greek Orthodox was however abandoned by Slavic and other national orthodox churches,[29][30] who had proceeded to assist to the purposes of their peoples national awakenings, from as early as the 10th century A.D.[31][32][33]"

  • Just because the word"orthodox" was traditionally used by the greek speaking christian world , and just because the new testament was mostly written in greek language , this does not give you the right to call the faith (which was common to the whole christian world) , to call it "greek". Let the deceived brothers to come freely and know the true faith ,without putting an ethnic color to the faith .

  • WIKIPEDIA: Historically the term Greek Orthodox has also been used to describe all Eastern Orthodox Churches, since the word "Greek" in the phrase "Greek Orthodox" can be used to refer to the Greek heritage[20][21][22] of the Byzantine Empire since during 8 centuries of Christian history most major intellectual, cultural, and social developments in the Christian church took place within the Empire. [23][24][25].

  • You nationalists greek americans kept the faith shielded by the other americans all these decades , as if it 's something that belonged to you,as if the faith was a greek custom or something and the poor americans only started to get to know orthodoxy and convert from protestantism by the efforts of the russian church and the patriarchate of Antioch .

  • WIKIPEDIA: "The term Greek Orthodox Church (Greek: Ἑλληνορθόδοξη Ἐκκλησία, Hellēnorthódoxē Ekklēsía) refers to several churches[1][2][3] within the larger communion of Eastern Orthodox Christianity sharing a common cultural tradition whose liturgy is also traditionally conducted in Koine Greek,[4] the original language of the New Testament.[5]" I'll be waiting for my apology.

  • The gospel of Mathew was written in the ancient Aramaic dialect not greek.Anyway..i'll tell you once more, do not call the faith "greek",ok?None of the disciples who spread the faith across the roman empire was greek. And the faith was common to the whole europe and middle east and north africa till the era of the schisma. If it comforts your nationalism to call the faith "greek orthodox" go ahead and do it.

  • Wrong. The Gospel of Mathew was written in Greek. From WIKIPEDIA: "The consensus view of the contemporary New Testament scholars is that the Gospel was originally composed in Greek rather than being a translation from Aramaic or Hebrew.[5]"

  • i hope you're not one of these greek nationalists who claim that Christ was greek hahaha.

  • There is no such thing as "greek orthodox" faith . The orthodox faith is one . It's not greek or russian , or serbian , or american . So..you'd better change the title of your videos and name it "understanding the orthodox faith" .

  • well ortherdox is a greek word so it started of as greek ortherdox

  • Again, someone in need of a history lesson. The Orthodox Church IS Greek. This does not denote any ethnicity. The same as you do not need to be Italian to be a member of the Roman Catholic Church. The Orthodox Church was known as the "Greek Church" LONG before the rise of modern nationalism. The New Testament was written in Greek. The Greek Empire of Byzantium/East Roman is where Christianity 'grew up.' It is marked forever by Hellenism. The modern GREEK Church is the Source of all Christianity.

  • They didnt say it wasnt importatnt to fast. And the canons of the church dont require a priest to have long hear and a beard.

  • Who told u that nonsense?? There are canons that when u do not fast u are dismissed from the church. U should shudy the canons exactly. The canons also speak about the appearance of priests...they are not allowed to shave their beard ...

  • You do not know what you are talking about, sadly. To those of us who are educated in Church history and tradition you seem very foolish. You can't go through life thinking you know everything. And of the Church you know very little, made obvious by your statements. Please educate yourself before trying to comment upon topics you have very little knowledge of. God bless.

  • I totally agree with the one priests view on ethnicity in the church, i can cause division but is also something to be cherished
