After listening to various versions of Copland's 'Hoedown' here on YT, I find this particular version the best, given it's wonderful sense of lively and vivid stacatto energy, which this dynamic piece demands, if it is to be performed correctly.
With this piece and others, Copland singularly captured the boundless energy, beauty, and essence of the American West, which has never been duplicated by any other composer.
Really neat. In Las Vegas at the Belogio (sp?) the water fountain has a routine to this music. Very cool. The water comes up to the music and it's so fun to watch.
I love playing this song. I have both first and second violing memorized. It's so much fun to play... If you don't break 2-3 bow hairs by the time you have finished playing it, then you didn't try hard enough to capture the essence. Haha.
@TheVocaloidDub It's more of producing the right sound... Have you ever seen a professional fiddler play a piece similar to that without breaking a single hair? No. I have seen many fiddlers in my time. And they break at least one. I say 2-3 because it's something I enjoy doing. LOL. (My group and I like to rush this song to the point where if we had flint in the hairs, there would be sparks.... haha)
@TheVocaloidDub it's a visual concept. lol. It means you are playing the true essence of the piece; which is intense, triple forte, heartpounding accents and swirling notes that get you in the mood to clap along or something.
@TheVocaloidDub Yes, you're right, technically they are the same instrument. But a fiddle dances and a violin sings...(It's a metaphor btw, please don't respond with some stupid argument.)
@C3P0meetsData That's probably the very best metaphor I've ever heard for comparing fiddle and violin! Although I must admit I've heard many Irish/Celtic fiddle solos that sang so beautifully they'd make you cry...Still, great comparison!
I too think this is the BEST recording of this number that I've come across so far here at youtube. Powerful, powerful stuff! Copeland was a true genius. One of the true icons of modern music. THANK YOU so very much for sharing this delightful rendition with us! Sheer heaven to listen to, that's for sure! :)
Playing this while playing Red Dead seems to make everything more epic... WORK YA DAMN NAG!!!

@TheVocaloidDub It's more of a song for a fiddle.

@C3P0meetsData There's only a violin. Fiddle is just a WAY to play a Violin. This song is like a fiddling

I've listened to several renditions of Hoedown on YouTube, and I think this one is the best by a little bit because...
1. More exciting tempo
2. Better accent articulation (if you're following along with the sheet music)
