I fully realize that this video was from the late 70s or early 80s, but Al Di Meola looks a bit comical in his white cowboy boots. Regardless, the performance was fantastic!

Even playing with steel strings, picks or with fingers... this song is an epic one from these Masters. Everybody talks about this masterpiece... We all are agree that those minutes we are listening to this song, means gold
Not me donrobertoni. I first heard this song on the classic album "Live in San Francisco", and Al Dimeola is playing this tune on that album. Have to agree that the nylon gives that eerie majestic quality quality which I find so appealing in Paco's playing. How on earth he gets those right hand fingers to pick so quickly I'll never understand!!
Nails help improving the sound a lot, even more then making it more comfortable. If you want to take your playing to a high level I would start growing them.
No, even if it is possible ( justin king flamenco strikes on steelstring) U usualy play it with nails. And nails and steelstring do not mix. unless you have concrete hard nails.
Amazing song. Learning sundance atm, well trying to find the time to learn it.
IMO its not the pick, its the stupid ovation that sounds horrible. Regardless if its steel string or not (because steel string also has its lovely sonic properties) but John McLaughlin uses a pick and sounds every bit as good as Paco.
It is amazing but he is not the only one. There are a few rock players like Mark Knofler of Dire Straits that play with fingers. There many Jazz players that do also, and of course anyone playing with a nylon string guitar like Paco also plays with his fingers. However, I think he is the best in this style.
Pooritech, Paco de Lucía may be one of the best (and by a lot of people's books, *the* best) flamenco guitarists in the world, but flamenco guitar has existed for a while, quite a few people play it well (like the guy who upped this video!) and they all use that finger-picking technique. Makes for a much nicer sound, and a lot more you can do with it :)
este hombre s l mejor guitarro q he conocido! no creo q hayga otro q le iguale..nacio con el talento y el don para hacer con las notas d la guirra maravillas para nuestors ojos y oidos...increible!...

Naw. Al leaves a space there, but you can clap through and see he comes back in correct. I think Paco was laughing because he played some weird notes in that spot, not expecting such a big pause in the rhythm backing.

Mediterranean Sundance is a recorded improvisation by Al Dimeola over Paco's song Rio Ancho.

marRicardo 4 years ago
The Germany concert was 27 years ago. The Jazz at Seville was only 14 years ago! Therefore, easier to find information on.
As for the performance....my point being that the Seville performance of this particular music was better at the seville concert than the German one.

Well, that is your opinion. I disagree and think they were their best at this time period, as far as this fusion music goes.
