Why would you even watch Fox news? I do not watch MSNBC and if they wrote a meany obit about my favorite writer who the hell cares. Grow up sir, I bet you have thought worse things about Conservatives when they die. Don't lie you know its true.
Oh Charlton Heston dies haha good he sucked and was mean.
What anyone thinks about Vonnegut is irrelevant (and so is what they think about anything) people will either buy and read his books or they won't. What will be will be. What is, is. "Comments" are air.
Here is a plot for a short story that Vonnegut could have written. A Fox News presenter dies and goes to heaven, only to gradually discover that his heaven is an imitation of the world created by Fox News - ultimately he realises that he's actually in hell.....
Thank you for your thoughts. I find that your opinions are very respectable. I may not agree with you on everything you say, but that doesn't mean your opinions are invalid.
you pretty much said it all man...that was really touching at the end actually, i remeber when he died, i was actually in a book store buying player piano....that was a sad day indeed, but what you said is definetly true, a man is remebered by what he has left behind yeah?
Well, I can hardly help the way I look, can I? It's genetics. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about your sister, but it has nothing to do with me. The police have the rapist's DNA, so they will find him.
Unfortunately I think FOX news will have a bigger impact in the 21st century. Not because their points are better but because who ever can yell the loudest seems to influence more people these days.
Very well put, Sir. Hocus Pocus, my favourite. The sickness that makes someone believe that it's OK to sling mud at such a gracious man has been mainstream for a long time.
Couldn't agree more. I just recently started getting into Vonnegut's books, and after reading Slaughter-House Five and Cat's Cradle, I think I've become addicted.
I shed a tear when I learned of Vonnegut's death. The only reason I didn't cry is because I knew he had already lived a long fulfilling life. But it still felt like someone had told me a cruel joke when I found out he died. Fox sucks.
i believe yoru right, if there is an afterlife (which id on't believe, sorry fundamentalists) kurt most definetly would be laughing about this whole situation
I visited a large used book store recently. They have copies of almost every author I could think of, but no Vonnegut, hard cover or soft cover. Lots of things like James Patterson (gag!) and Stephen King (fine writer, but for me a snore). A clerk told me that the Vonneguts fly off the shelf as fast as people bring them in. Take THAT Fox News.
Fox trashing his him...seems like something Vonnegut would have planned really, i'd not be surprised if someone sees him in Heaven or where and asks, he'd say..It was my idea.
That was very touching. It's sad that I can't write that, today, w/out a disclaimer that I mean it earnestly. I'd only take issue w/ suicide being "the easy way out." I've experienced depths that I knew were so deep that they couldn't last that long. At the same time, I knew if they did, I would want out, and, given the situation, wouldn't have the slightest capacity to do anything but end it all. From this, I know those who attempt are so far gone, it's the only way they can know.
I think you're probably right, that Vonnegut is laughing about the whole thing. A warm and fitting tribute to one of the finest men and finest minds we've ever been privileged to know. Thanks for posting.
Good comments. I'm not really a Vonnegut fan but I always enjoyed listening to his interviews, thought provoking I felt. I think FOX News dismissively trashed the man just to piss people like you off, why else? I'm glad to see they failed at that, too.
A. I'm honorary president of the American Humanist Association. I succeeded Issac Asimov, and we behave as well as we can without any expectation of rewards and punishments and an afterlife, and so I don't think there is one. My brother and sister didn't think there was one, my parents and grandparents didn't think there was one; it was enough that they were alive. I love sleep, don't you? - Kurt Vonnegut
Probably right, however Fox News is not Kurt Vonnegut. That was a horrible piece by people who probably wouldn't 'get' the irony.
Scary that this is how some people will view Kurt Vonnegut. Doesn't this attitude towards Dresden POWs hurt the morale of the soldiers? I'm sure Fox could find a way to argue that IF they wanted.
good stuff. this is beautiful. no matter how much fox news may try to bedevil us, it'll have no choice but to flog itself silly with pathetic insults and eventually implode.
Kurt wrote fiction 40 years ago, before he lost his talent, and became just another liberal.

You are as boring, self indulgent, and incoherent as Vonnegut himself. At least he was able to admit it.

@boltcj13 The word is "self-indulgent". So, you can add pedantic to your list of my faults.

@jabel5 How about: thoughtful, somber and honest about your feelings regarding the utter crap that Fox News spewed regarding KVjr.
Yep: those are your faults.
