Bwhahaha! My bow broke the other day when I was in school orchestra practise. The thing was that I was only half-playing and miming the most part of the music...and my bow still snapped from the tip :(.

My mum asked what I was playing that was so dynamic and made my bow die. I answered: BLACK EYE PEAS! What a masterpiece huh?

It happened to me in a concert too - but I wasn't the soloist, just in the cello section. I looked down and saw all the hair cascading off the bow in slow motion - sort of like a waterfall. I just sat there with my mouth open. I didn't know that could happen. Great that you caught it on film. The thing that amazed me is how little your tone was affected. Top marks for carrying on!

I play the sequenza vi from berio on the viola and about every 10 minutes of practising 2 hairs were broken. Then I just noticed that you just have to give more tension to the hairs with such "hard pieces", that they dont touch the wood while playing.
