I think what makes them so simply amazing is the fact that at some point in our lives, we've all done this to songs we like; substituted our voices for instruments.

The key differing point is that while we might get do a favoured riff or a specific lyric, they gathered together and threw down the full song, with far more effort and accuracy than we would have done.

Awesome cover, very awesome, but lets not get ahead of ourselves and say its better than the original.. first of all I believe the more up-tempo part in the middle sounds much better on acoustic guitar, and the 'don't be afraid in the dark and cold' part sounds much, MUCH better with Hansi hitting that higher note. Again, awesome cover, but come on..

@Greenpakto To say this version's better than BG's version is a sin in itself. This version's really good, but in concert, comparing the two LIVE, BG absolutely blow this one out of the water. Besides I've caught Van Canto lip syncing so that isn't really a great thing when they're singing some of the greatest metal songs man has ever conceived.

@Swwatter Its far from a sin believeing that :O Though my experience is ONLY from the studio recorded songs, so live I would have no knowledge.

Another reason I love their cover of the song is due to using no instruments. It feels more like an "old/medieval" song this way. Its also very similar to "Ronja Rövardotter" soundtrack which is a childs movie from "Astrid Lindgren" (swedish famous childbook-writer). Unless youve seen the movie as a kid you wouldnt know/feel the connection though :)
