What a STUPID story. It is all really just lies. It pretends to deal with issues surrounding "trying and failing", but whenever he tries to create something, he always fails in impossible, spectacular ways. So, it is really just teaching DENIAL and LYING. That is horrible for kids and it should be banned.

It should really grapple with the *real* frustration that kids have in trying to accomplish something and failing to achieve what they wanted. The important lessons to be learned are (1.) find joy in the process of improving, whatever your skill level or natural ability (2.) try new things even if you you think you will fail (3.) love and respect yourself, irrespective of your abilities or accomplishments.

I think you've taken it too seriously as well. I think it does teach something though, which a lot of people need to learn even when they are skilled- to enjoy the process, not necessarily because you are improving, but because you are living. I don't think a kid's book HAS to teach a moral though. My fave is One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish after all haha :D

You've taken this book way too seriously. In point of fact, children do appreciate fantasy and fantastical tales, told well and not in a preachy, documentary sort of way.This is my opinion as both an educator and a parent. A story told well, as Mr. Simm is doing, helps the story tremendously.
