funny that us-american are not used to solid houses. where I live we are not building this card board timber-frame stuff. we are used to houses build with heavy bricks. good for room climate and withstands all winds, no matter how fast they are.
Poor guy probably just wanted to hunker down by himself and enjoy his house during the hurricane, but here comes the news crew wanting to camp out with him.
@spideys2 like Jack Fresco says" the problem is not the existance of resources, the problem is the access to the resources. If homes didnt have a price tag, everybody should be able to survive a hurricane in their homes.
He said that the glass could withstand a strike from a sledge hammer. I wonder if they realized that hurricanes throw other houses at you, not just sledge hammers.
Yuppy stick builders get what they deserve, they have to build homes in bad areas yet want to be fashionable. in fact anybody the builds in flood or disaster areas with conventional construction I have no sympathy for. Most are just sheep that follow the heard but it takes an individual that thinks for himself to survive. LOL I bet most the homes were rebuilt with sticks not domed concrete
@ssssaaafff It takes an individual that can spell correctly, and it sure isn't you. "Heard"? That's the past tense of "hear". How about buying a dictionary and realizing it's H-E-R-D?
it's not the engineers and architects...engineers can build aircraft that travel multiple times the speed of sound, it's not the lack of design capability to make a house withstand a hurricane, it's just that designs are dictated by economics, lot size and building codes. Most engineers and architects would love a chance to work on a project like this, but the owner has to have deep pockets and the zoning laws have to be flexible.
Goes to show how stupid the egghead architects and engineers really are. They build junk. It's not even the materials so much as the way the conventional houses take the full force of the wind. If the walls were sloped even a little bit and the structure a just a hexagon (not even round) and smooth to the roof, most of them would have been fine. That's how dumb the eggheads are. Big-bucks b.s. retards from hell.
@syyenergy7 The building industry fights stuff like this,,too much money involved. It's sorta like when the Muslims bombed the WTC the first time,,Clinton and the crew just fluffet it off. Hell they told us they weren't gonna stop AND they didn't.
@THEMOJOMANsince1959 Do you just go around trying to make inane analogies criticizing democrats? "Uh, that dog riding the skateboard... sorta like the first WTC attack blah blah blah..."
And I think it should be noted that this dome house seemed to be the only reinforced concrete house on that beach. Three little pigs?
@dick117 Jimmy Carter came up with the COMMUNITY REINVESTMENT ACT and your boy Clinton signed it into law,,AND that's when this housing market busted bubble started crushing AMERICA. How's your boy's HOPE & CHANGE working for ya ? And before you blame BUSH realize this The DEMS took both houses of Congress starting in 2007,,,that tied his hands BIG TIME.
@dick117 I was trying to make the point that CLINTON and the gang knew the MUSLIMS were gonna just keep coming and did nothing. The building industry knows these concrete dome homes will work but they just keep rebuilding,,,Insanity is something you keep doing,,even know you know it didn't work the other 1million times you did it.
yeah, but the owners of this house only stayed in it once during a hurricane. The other times they evacuated. Why build something like that if you don't even feel comfortable enough to stay in it during the storm.

@erik4727 its not that expensive, especially if he is a retired architect/engineer.
The formwork is the expensive part but concrete is cheap.

These can be cooled with a small RV type AC and heated very simply also.

this house is amazing! I want to build a house like tis and I also live in florida. Roughly How much did this cost to make?
niamh2739 1 year ago
@niamh2739 It's listed as selling for over a million but, with today's prices, probably less.
