What he calls 'coveting' is an emotional plea to hang on to what is left of the loved one who has died. The sense that your relationship with that person is being taken away by other members of the family is heart breaking. Its a consequence of LOVE, not lust, and its perfectly natural! What needs to be initiated is open and honest discussion about how you feel - NOT to deny all of this because some pastor told you 'God' doesn't like it.

The background setting isn't meant to trigger coveting. It's ok for a church to look cool and use the talents of artistic people to help bring people to Christ as consequently humans are species attracted to what they see. God made beautiful things, but he doesn't want us to covet, likewise the mars hill church may be hip or whatever, but God would want us to see this as a gift not as something to be jealous of
@tmdurey I think it's not designed with that in mind, but rather to create an interesting environment that is in tune with what the message might be. I think it keeps the Church modern and keeps the environment interesting and engaging. Lets be honest, would you rather look at that or a plain white wall? I think that's where the intention lies. All churches have creative people and people talented with graphics, that could have been there way of helping the church.
