any way you could explain 1:13-1:15? you hid the 'lines' layer so you could see the pink shapes left over, then you selected one, but then somehow you selected all of them without clicking them individually. How did you do that? Also once you had them all selected, did you just 'delete' them? or did you do something else? ps this video helped me more than most videos, but I would love if is were a bit slower with more descriptions...thank you so much!
@bboysloth I indeed hid the lines layer so I could see al magenta left overs. I selected one of those pink shapes and then goto select select same, colour and line. (I used the shortcut in this video) After selecting al the magenta left-over-shapes I just deleted them. To get rid of the unwanted stuff and keep the file clean.
@schizo910 i thought that was what happened :) thank you soo much, this has been the best video on youtube to figure out how to color!! thank you thank you thank you
@appleguy1804 It's 100% magenta. A colour I don't often use. So that way I can quick select all parts that have those colour to delete them easily later on. For instance if you draw a face with a nose, and the nose won't touch any other outlines, the line that makes the nose will still be there, right under the outline colour. So I quick select al 100% magenta objects, after finishing up colouring my character, and delete all those 'hidden' magenta lines.
Thanks Schizo, I'm new to this, I'm a pen and paper guy..so I got really confused about the layers and stuff. Like: turning strokes into solids and Merge? How do you do that...Sorry I'm new to this! If it isn't to much to ask, do you have step by step instructions? I'm using MacBook CS4...again...thanks for your great post!!
@hibb007 You have to turn your strokes into outlines and merge those. Select all your strokes, go to the Object menu and choose Expand (if I remember correctly, I'm not using an English version of illustrator). Now select al the converted lines and go to the pathfinder menu and merge them.
@schizo910 I drew 2 shapes (just 2 random shapes), selected them both, then I went to "Object", and "Expand..." was grayed out, so I clicked "Expand Appearance", then I went to "Window" and clicked on "Pathfinder" (or Shift+Control+F9), then under "Shape Modes" I clicked on "Unite". :)
@ForbiddenFish I'm not entirly sure what you mean. But if you got two shapes you can just merge them the way you did. If however those shape have outlines and no filling you should expand those first.
Few questions: what stroke brush was you using when you were drawing? When you were coloring, did you fill the picture in on one layer and did the shadows in another layer? Great post!!!
@hibb007 I use a 'selfmade' illustrator brushes. Radius sizes are 1, 2 and 3 with the pressure switched on ( I use a wacom intuos3) and variables set to the same numbers. Hope that helps.
I make the highlights and shadow lines with the same brushes in a new layer, but after i converted them to outlines i often put them in the colouring layer.
