  • How can someone dislike this? The pure passion is the song should be enough to be appreciated at least. Totally agree with DahMasterDebaters.

  • On my friends account c:

But this was 3 years before I was born, on my birthday xD. Counting Crows ftw.

  • This is my favorite song of all-time!

  • i always get goose bumps hearing this

  • This performance is something special

  • One of the best bands of all time for sure. Such a beautiful group. Adam Duritz is an enigma, such a wonderful mind. May they live on forever in history.

  • my favorite CC performance of all time. thanks for providing a good quality version of it.

  • Yes this is the Madonna Show

  • When I first Adam Duritz, I said wow he has a beautiful and very emotive voice! he's very talented and great!

  • Bad ass!!! Love it!!!! :)

  • @rmvanrij, I stand corrected. That version is awesome!

  • Their live performances are so much better, because Adam puts so much emotion into his songs. And you can feel it in his body movements and the way he sings. It is truly the most beautiful thing, like seeing a newborn child or a sunset. Thank you Adam.

  • The most powerful version of this song that there is.

  • @jase8au youtube.com/watch?v=sDg4kUs6O3k listen to this version ;)

  • @rmvanrij That link is not working for me?

  • One of the best song of the 90s, nothing to do with Accidentally in love or A Long December and other mainstream crap by CC.

Just listen to their first album: every song is just perfect.

  • @xde0mega

It's called passion, not simply recreating the same exact thing performance after performance. Doofus.

  • Dear Adam Duritz,

Please, for the love of God, sing ONE fucking Counting Crows song with the original melody like it is on the album. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, oh so, annoying.

    Thanks,

    <3

  • I've seen both of these guys live (letterman and counting crows) and they both kicked some serious asses.

  • Thanks so much for putting this better version up! Had it on VHS when I was in 9th grade and wore the dang tape out.

  • @JeremiahPaddock No problem. Glad you enjoyed.

  • what a talent!

  • 3 people can go look up at a building and think of jumping

  • I love the vulnerability he shows in this performance. It's like he's laying his bloody heart out there for all of america and does it unflinchingly and apologetically. Adam is a god. Just saying.

  • @ChuckNorrisKratosLOL He's not drunk, that's just how he ALWAYS is. He dances like a goof when he is into the music.

  • didn't they also do Catapult on Letterman? can't find that one anywhere. it was up one time and then removed

  • 2:43 - I hear a little tempo change :\

    great performance non the less

  • i think this was released the year kurt cobain dieded. wawawawaaa!

  • I prefer Counting Crows live

  • great lyrics

  • chills

  • Thanks for the video. You did a great job combining the two videos, much better than the actual music video.

  • needs more views

  • this is music with heart

  • wow I dont think I've ever hear rock that hard on Letterman before.

  • 1 person dislikes this video.

    The devil perhaps?

  • Right around this time Counting Crows was on Letterman & sang their song Catapult. That was a SUPER great performance ... I really wish somebody would post that here, I REALLY like to see it again.......

  • @photofake Actually their performance of Catapult was a few years later when they were promoting Recovering the Satellites, their second album. Letterman was so impressed by this performance that he invited them back to perform for two consecutive nights (Catapult on the first night and A Long December on the second), which had never happened before on his show. That said, yeah, it'd be great to see that performance posted as well!

  • Ni yo se cuanto me gusta esta cancion....

  • great live performance by Counting Crows. Peace

    -M H. Wight

  • Love Dan Vickrey!

  • RE fucking PLAY that shit

  • when I 1st fell in Love with AD..actuall I think it was Mr. Jones

  • Anyone else notice that he is wearing the same shirt in this that he is in the music video

  • I have listened to this song atleast 30 times today

  • This music is amazing. Still my favorite album to this day, don't you guys think this music can beat anything out today?

  • Perfection is apparently attainable.

  • what happened to emotion in mainstream music? not trying to knock it because i love all forms of music, but just compared to this it seems like something went wrong between 1994 and 2010. love this song so much

  • @kilgannon2113 There was emotion up till 1997. I think the record companys bought it all up, and copyrighted it. lol

  • amazing performance. heartfelt. all of them. great players.

  • I love to see emotion while singing it but Adam lives that emotion. It's breathtaking and beautiful, the art that he writes and creates and performs. This is the best performance of the song I've seen thus far. I've never seen the band get as hard as they do at 4:15 to the end. It's cathartic. It's magnificent.

The way he holds himself at the end, 5:25 seems like that last line is true. And that's heartbreaking.

  • Its too bad he struggled so much with fame and what some have said, a personal problem with a dissociative disorder. This is when music was music, compared to the shit we hear on the radio today. I miss the 90s

  • @lushys he's got depersonalization syndrome actually :/

    thats worse :s

  • Would you catch me...

  • 1 Person is a Justin Beiber Fan.

  • @mczack26 and the other 4 have no life?

  • this version should be on the album! its so much more powerful and there's so much more heart put into it. counting crows never ceases to amaze me

  • Here it is again! Got lost somewhere down my wall....

  • 1thru99.com

  • why does he never sing the same way he does on the album?? i wouldnt expect him to do it the same way all the time, but ive never even seen it once. not talking shit, i just love the way the melody flows on the studio track

  • @kickit301....they try to keep the song fresh and not overplayed...If you had to sing the same thing over and over again you'd prob wanna change it up a bit so thats what they do...Although we'd all love it if they sang the album version every time!

  • @kickit301 i'm with you on this. when i saw them in concert i was overwhelmingly disappointed because of that. I don't mind it being different if it was better, but it just seemed different for the sakes of being different. i feel like the person who engineered the album deserved some credit for writing the songs because to cut his singing into a melody had to be painstaking. this was actually faithful to the album compared to when i saw them live.

  • @boscodaze i agree. this one's not bad, i just want to see the album version live at least just ONCE. you havent found any vids of it have you? if so id love to see it

  • Here's the actual foootage...no words.

  • Love love love love love love looooove Counting Crows! The first few bars of this song are sublime at sunrise.

  • I'm pretty sure at least a thousand of these views are from me over the last week....what an amazing performance.

  • does he always perform like this?

  • @tirahhhh na he's lost that range man

  • God bless the Fender Tele

  • If you've seen the 2008 pinkpop version of this song its like watching two different bands.

  • At this point in Time Adam Duritz was one of the most genuine and amazingly emotive vocalists around. Still a great songwriter to this day but not quite the same. Him Thom York and Jeff Buckley are the three singers that can pull me out of any shitty self-pitying mood and back on my feet. Amazing.

  • good good band, love this song !!!!

  • Watch this video and than watch them doing You Can't Count On Me on the letterman show. Really shows how much they have matured. Their still as great as they were than as they are now

  • sounds so good thumbs up :)

  • IT DOES NOT get any better than this, my Counting Crow loving friends.

  • there's something so vulnerable and empathic about adam duritz and his voice. And his music is so honest and real...the depth of emotion of a performance like this can just break you to tears

  • counting crows are amazing :D

Adam Duritz...You are an AMAZING lyric-writing person and singer

  • this version of this song has to be on an album.

At the end when he says "Catch me if I was falling, would you kiss me if I was leaving would you hold ause I'm lonely without you..." is amazing

  • he sings it that way on the "Across a Wire" disc one....i agree, that is soooo much better lyrically

  • @ssherman1884 ...

There's a similar version on the counting crows greatest album (in my opinion): Across a Wire. It's a double live album featuring a VH1 storytellers session from '94 and a MTV live at the 10 Spot show...if you like this, the VH1 storytellers disc will blow you away

  • @SteveSanoski

The disc is indeed mind blowing good!

  • Yes Best Live Music Performance

On Letterman Ever! In my opinion

Anyway! He was definitely in a holy

Place when he sang this here!

Want to hear the funny part.

I remember the original airing of

    This broadcast like it WAS

    YESTERDAY!! 1994 good year and

    I remember it well!

  • I remember it like it was yesterday too. I remember Dave genuinely praising the CD and saying how much he liked the band.

The early and mid nineties were a phenomenal time for music.

  • beautiful. thank you so much.

  • what a great song. they always put on an amazing live performance and look how much younger duritz looks.

  • fucking amazing performance!!

  • bigfootalan you are a genius

  • have to say that even though Steve Earle has the biggest part of my musical heart, these guys come in a close second!

  • I love counting crows but im gonna be honest... extremely hard to find a live version of any of thier songs that i like.. but this one is great. He must have stayed relatively close to the tone of the album version because that was one of the first television appearances. Counting crows live is an acquired taste even if you love the albums.

  • Counting Crows have put out several amazing live albums.

  • That man sings with everything he's got! Respect!

  • Thanks man this is my favorite
