Huckabee was destroyed by Paul's response concerning the defense of Israel. Huckabee's entire stance on the defense of Israel is highly illogical: you claim to defend Israel at all costs, but then allow a $20 billion arms sale (including precision-guided bombs) to Saudi Arabia to be completed on Bush's Middle East visit to promote 'peace'. Israel a true ally? Israel sells weapons to China which might some day be used against us or against Taiwan, which is about the most peaceful nation in the world. I agree they're our friend, but our interests do not always equal their interests. Ron Paul gets this, and none of the others does.

That Ron Paul has to always frame his answers as giving Israel a great hand shows just how powerful the Israel lobby really is. It would be better if the U.S. pulled out entirely from that region, even for Israel but not exclusively so. Bad for the lobby since they have so much invested in manipulating the political process in the U.S.

You make a great point. The US relationship with Israel is one of the root causes of anti-americanism but you will never hear this talked about in debates because it would instantly kill anyones campaign. As honest as RP is even he knows that he must frame it as helping Israel.
