The reason why people put Rover V8's in mk1 and mk2 escorts is because, as they have ally block and heads, they are very light for a v8. They don't weight much more than a 2 litre pinto, so when you put them in, it doesn't change the balance or weight of the car too much.

It will handle a lot better with that engine in instead of a 289ci Ford engine

Seems to be quite a bad bog in that carb setup,...only revs when he lets off, just dies when he guns it...a smaller carb might be the go or fiddle with the accelerator pump spring weight in that one...
