A controller with a screen will benefit slow paced games like The Elder Scrolls series or Fallout. Although it would be quite pointless in most games that are fast paced. You simply wouldn't have the time to look at your controller. Since fast paced action games are what pretty much rule the market, I don't think this will ever come in place and replace the original controller. I think Microsoft got the right idea of not having a controller in the first place.

Well one thing I'm sure that almost everyone will agree with, is that the PS3's controller has horrible triggers. You have to put so much unnecessary strain on your fingers to keep them from slipping off. And no, I don't sweat like a beast and my fingers aren't greasy. Even when they don't slip off, there's this constant uneasy, unbraced feel when you hold the triggers down...
I hope motion controls don't fade away into nothing. There were many examples of games that nailed a balance between motion controls and button pressing. Thats what i want to see. The perfect mesh between good ol' fashioned button pressing and intuitive motion controls
@idrivefast235 yea the ps3 is a bit small and the back triggers are slippery but its a good controller and always has been..the dpad on the xbox dpad needs a change becuase as far as fighting games go its horrible.... sucks on that aspect...other than that its fine....racing games tend to be better on xbox cuz the back triggers are better for that genre...but fighting games are fucking miles better on ps3 cuz the d pad works perfect for it.

I'm assuming everybody forgot about the PSP Remote Play function and the Eyetoy. Both just dropped of the face of the Earth. Eyetoy was made better by Microsoft that being the Kinect. Part of the functions of the Wii U controller could have come from the Remote Play function

I think Nintendo will run the show and attract an entirely different crowd than the original Wii. The original Wii is strickly casual. WiiU seems like it will be casual & hardcore. If they can steal away titles from MS & Sony at all, they completely screw them. Nintendo in the eyes of consumers is the most well respected as a video game company for a variety of reasons. Those reasons are why they are dominating and will likely continue in the future.

Personally I think that controller technology has reached its peak, yes you can develop and adapt certain gimmicks that will work fine depending on the type of game. But we're now in between de next evolution in videogame controller tech, so it's only a matter of figuring out the middle fase before getting the holodeck / matrix experiences (both of them so diferent and yet to serve the same purpose) to interact with a virtual reality.
Until then we'll be stuck on the Beta for a while.
What, developers and publishers saying they are exited about something, get out of here. I remember when kinect was announced as project natal was it and all the developer and publishers went on saying that they are excited, it has potential and they have really cool stuff coming for it. After that there has been no sign of any HC games for it or games that aren't fitness or party games. Nintendo will probably do something cool technology vise but the games are going to be the same old.
Yp, I think these console companies should try out something a little bit more simple. I think the fancy motion controls and touch controls just make a console more expensive, and are not adding anything important to the gameplay. Lets go back to a set up like the Sega Genesis or the Super Nintendo. Enough buttons to get the job done, without gimmicks or limiting gameplay.
What about a controller with a keyboard in the center..? to the sides could be basic buttons like Circle, triangle, X, and square, and a analog stick or two. Or make the keyboard slide out, like some phones, put it on a portable device, minecraft on a portable device! Whats more is it would be by one of the big companies, and more people would likely get that instead of the other minecraft phone game thing that they already made. =o..

In my opionion if they want to change controlers, i mean really change them, then the games need to change aswell. The controlers we have these days are perfect match for the games that they are making. They could change it a little bit, but thats it + i dont think that people want to quit playing these types of games yet. Best option is - make a new system for thous controlers and games. (wii did it already and they are different)

The wii was innovative for it's controller and was immensely popular for a while but has fallen off. The wii u is essentially a scaled up version of a ds. Its another innovative idea by nintendo for nintendo. I wouldn't expect ps3 or xbox to adopt this. With multiplayer being a key factor in game sales I don't see how you could use a wii u controller to help in many of these games.

I love your guys' debates! It makes me think of things that I just didnt really look into! Personally, I think that the controller will always be here, maybe with voice controls added on, but a game isnt a game without a controller.
I believe that the gaming controller will always remain. The idea of adding a touch pad to the controller that interacts with the game is definitely a good idea. However the D-pad is not good for movement. it works about as well as wasd, which is terrible. The Wii U is a good idea but it still needs work. I would change the touch pad to an optional accessory or, if i'm felling capitalistic, create a separate device and charge people for the controller as well.
I said once and i will say it again, controllers will always be a part of a gaming, this whole motion thing isn't a fad, it has it's place in gaming and i enjoy it, i play everything from atari to wii, i love playing with mouse/keyboard, gamepads, wiimote, move and with no controller, the move/kinect/wii has their place and will always have their place, as much as people hate motion gaming and 3D either get on board or stop caring because neither is going away.

@GenomeSoldier71 There is no sensitivity on keys on a keyboard. Think of them like switches. They are either on or off. The analog joysticks and triggers on a gamepad controller have sensitivity resistance and make a huge difference in gaming.
@3killabytes The Keyboard was designed to utilize every finger on your hand. A controller was designed to mostly use your thumbs and index fingers. It's a preference thing, if the guy wants to use a Keyboard for gaming then he can, I know I will ;)
@3killabytes The gamepad was designed in a period when there were no first person shooters on consoles. Now that first person shooters have saturated the market. The mouse not so much the keyboard is superior.
@3killabytes Just like with everything else, keyboards evolve to what they are being used for. If you really crave a keyboard with analogue keys (or touch sensitive, I've heard both terms), get a mechanical keyboard.

@SkankinDevil89 I hate the naysayers who criticize little big planet because it isn't violent or manly enough.The truth is that Little big planet is more manly because if you get hit once you die and you only have 4 lives but in Call of Duty your health regenerates and you have infinite health.Also people think little big planet is not violent but since you can make your own levels they can be as violent as you want them to be.

I think Nintendo will run the show and attract an entirely different crowd than the original Wii. The original Wii is strickly casual. WiiU seems like it will be casual & hardcore. If they can steal away titles from MS & Sony at all, they completely screw them. Nintendo in the eyes of consumers is the most well respected as a video game company for a variety of reasons. Those reasons are why they are dominating and will likely continue in the future.

xbox 360: for there next controller i think they ill also have a touch screen but not as big as wiiU will have i think xbox will keep its original design because it is genius and put a touchscreen right on top i also think they should either drop the kinect or make it better dont get me wrong i love xbox and kinect i mean i have a kinect and i love it but i would like to see more hardcore games com eon the screen with it but more then just voice commands

Personally I think that controller technology has reached its peak, yes you can develop and adapt certain gimmicks that will work fine depending on the type of game. But we're now in between de next evolution in videogame controller tech, so it's only a matter of figuring out the middle fase before getting the holodeck / matrix experiences (both of them so diferent and yet to serve the same purpose) to interact with a virtual reality.
Until then we'll be stuck on the Beta for a while.

What, developers and publishers saying they are exited about something, get out of here. I remember when kinect was announced as project natal was it and all the developer and publishers went on saying that they are excited, it has potential and they have really cool stuff coming for it. After that there has been no sign of any HC games for it or games that aren't fitness or party games. Nintendo will probably do something cool technology vise but the games are going to be the same old.

Yp, I think these console companies should try out something a little bit more simple. I think the fancy motion controls and touch controls just make a console more expensive, and are not adding anything important to the gameplay. Lets go back to a set up like the Sega Genesis or the Super Nintendo. Enough buttons to get the job done, without gimmicks or limiting gameplay.

What about a controller with a keyboard in the center..? to the sides could be basic buttons like Circle, triangle, X, and square, and a analog stick or two. Or make the keyboard slide out, like some phones, put it on a portable device, minecraft on a portable device! Whats more is it would be by one of the big companies, and more people would likely get that instead of the other minecraft phone game thing that they already made. =o..

In my opionion if they want to change controlers, i mean really change them, then the games need to change aswell. The controlers we have these days are perfect match for the games that they are making. They could change it a little bit, but thats it + i dont think that people want to quit playing these types of games yet. Best option is - make a new system for thous controlers and games. (wii did it already and they are different)

there's always going to be a controller, imo, but im not into all the no controller stuff yet. As it starts to be used in diff and cool ways ill start looking into it. Its the possibilities that excite me as far as the wii u and kinect go. and i dont mind the ps3 controller maybe its because the ps3 is the first playstation console ive ever owned idk but i find it to be on par with the xbox controller. but i deff agree playstation needs to start doing some innovative stuff soon

1. you get more accuracy then the 360s fake digital pad and joystick
2. you just cant play fighting games on the 360 controller... well you can but you play like shit.

The wii was innovative for it's controller and was immensely popular for a while but has fallen off. The wii u is essentially a scaled up version of a ds. Its another innovative idea by nintendo for nintendo. I wouldn't expect ps3 or xbox to adopt this. With multiplayer being a key factor in game sales I don't see how you could use a wii u controller to help in many of these games.

I believe that the gaming controller will always remain. The idea of adding a touch pad to the controller that interacts with the game is definitely a good idea. However the D-pad is not good for movement. it works about as well as wasd, which is terrible. The Wii U is a good idea but it still needs work. I would change the touch pad to an optional accessory or, if i'm felling capitalistic, create a separate device and charge people for the controller as well.

I said once and i will say it again, controllers will always be a part of a gaming, this whole motion thing isn't a fad, it has it's place in gaming and i enjoy it, i play everything from atari to wii, i love playing with mouse/keyboard, gamepads, wiimote, move and with no controller, the move/kinect/wii has their place and will always have their place, as much as people hate motion gaming and 3D either get on board or stop caring because neither is going away.

@GenomeSoldier71 There is no sensitivity on keys on a keyboard. Think of them like switches. They are either on or off. The analog joysticks and triggers on a gamepad controller have sensitivity resistance and make a huge difference in gaming.

@3killabytes The Keyboard was designed to utilize every finger on your hand. A controller was designed to mostly use your thumbs and index fingers. It's a preference thing, if the guy wants to use a Keyboard for gaming then he can, I know I will ;)

@3killabytes well im very comfortable with my razer lycosa and naga, but i changed from xbox to pc for the better experience and if i ever missed the xbox controller id just use my game pad so its not really a bid deal
i just prefer the keyboard and mouse because its alot more sensitive
as much as i love the xbox controller i have a really good keyboard and mouse and thats what i prefer
but i just hate ps3
