I have family ties and grew up in and around the NY Metropolitan area; but now live near Syracuse NY. I'll take a blizzard in Syracuse over NYC anytime - why? It's typically colder here, so the asphalt is already below freezing, so the roads are less apt to ice over. We usually get over 12 feet of snow (not all at once!) in a winter season.but the Metro area got pounded with some NASTY winter Nor'Easters last winter (2010) that totally missed us. happy white and safe winters!
