@Sixfigas No, USSTRATCOM is a completely different animal, StratCom doesn't wield direct control of assets and these days focuses on cyber-warfare.
Additionally StratCom doesn't have the autonomy SAC held, SAC (at the wing level) can do everything except launch/drop a live nuke without DoD permission. StratCom has to consul with the chiefs and secretaries on every day to day function.
Finally StratCom has made elementary errors in Strategic planning that would make SAC face-palm.
This video makes my memories come back, served at Fairchild AFB 1977-1982, B-52, KC-135, 92d Security Police Squadron, was a great assignment and I'm proud to have served. Thank You Flickchaser for your comment. You are right, everything had to go perfect, I had heard the announcement of: for the alert force, for the alert force, klaxon, klaxon, klaxon on the pager in the alarm tower many a day. The crews running for the alert B-52's not knowing if that was the real call.
Thnx. Good post. We owe SAC and everyone who was a part of it a debt. I've met individuals who were focused and professional but I have not been with an organization(including one of the largest defense contractors) in which an air of urgency, attitude and commitment to excellence was the driving force among so many of it's ranks. SAC's reputation for demanding results,no excuses and rigid accountability set standards that few could meet today.Small wonder former members are so proud.Well done!
I was in SAC back in 1973 to 1976 916th Air Refueling Wing..:)

I wish SAC was still in existence for two main reasons:
1) China
2) Russia

@dmanyt1 It is still in existence just in the form of USSTRATCOM. It's just a name change.
