VDH is correct that, all things being equal, victory is securred from the front lines and not from Washington, Tokyo or some base very far from the front. My grandfather was a mere Lt. Colonel and said that when he was actively involved, sharing the suffering of his captains, majors, Lt's and NCO"s and privates. Conversely, he was always willing to push him self after being looked in the eyes by a General and bein gable to speak with him and on behalf of the men under his command.
