  • Americans have a right to unionize. You can't call it a free market anymore if one half of the free market system (the workers) have their hands tied so they cant negotiate wages.

  • The 'Republican Action Alert' that Schuster refers to should be on the front page of every American newspaper, however, as of Saturday morning, only The Politico has mentioned it and I had to search for that coverage! These are your lawmakers! Do you really think they care about you?

  • This GOP 'Action Alert' clearly shows the Republican agenda for the American middle class. When it comes to the failure of the auto industry loan/bailout, it should be the lead story among the news organizations... it's not. Whether the American auto industry should be bailed out or not is not the question. My concern is the motives of these 'lawmakers'. They have the best 'union' by far, They set their wages and increases, pensions and have the best healthcare available. What do you have?

  • It takes fewer workers to produce a Honda than it takes to produce a Chevrolet.

The Japanese and German automakers are more technologically adept and modernized. The Japanese and German automakers make much greater use of advanced robotics and machine automation.

Add to this the fact that the American automakers are burdened with extravagant union benefit packages, and it's easy to see why the Big 3 are losing.

Let the big 3 die. They had their chance to modernize but they blew it.

  • This is what the Republican Party is all about: politics over the health of the country, preferring foreign companies over American companies, and screwing the American worker, particularly union workers. It's no wonder they lost control of the government by an overwhelming margin last month. With these sorts of high-stakes games being played with millions of Americans' jobs, they'll likely remain out of power for the better part of this century.
