This is awesome. I had this DVD but lent it to a friend while I was injured a year ago and lost contact with him so I never got it back. My injury's finally healed and I'm glad this was uploaded so I don't need to buy another copy.
Anyone seriously interested in yoga, in fact EVERYONE should lookup BKS Iyengar, he is the world's leading if not perhaps ONLY true yogi, a true master of skill and philosophical genius.
He realizes the symmetry and other physical, mental aspects, and the corrections necessary to achieve perfection.
His books are simply a MUST have. Hope that helps you folks, decent video, but listen to BKS instead due to technical safety aspects.
You are comparing apple with orange. Ashtanga has its own system and as much as I like Iyengar's alignments I enjoy the flow of prana when practicing Ashtanga.
How do you sit like that with one leg on top of the other with a straight back! I tried to sit on the floor like you but found it impossible, I couldn't...when I tried my back, knees hurt and felt very uncomfortable. Can you tell me if most people can sit like that?
Thanks much for these series introductions to how breathing skills adhered to various postures in movements. From which detailed and qualified explanation, I can obtain more fully to the understanding of what Ashtanga Yoga is.
This guys physique is just so inspiring, nobel. I have had problems with yoga over the years. Some mentioned ego. Yoga can destabilise and upset just as much as "heal" and enhance life. Namaste.
Excellent resource, and though the postures demonstrated can seem daunting for beginners, the presentation of easier alternatives are very welcome whilst one builds up the requisite strength and flexibility.
Ballet dancers actually are required to move their body consciously and with absolute concentration. The level of awareness that they reach through the classical professional training can be definetely compared to yoga.
Ballet practice is different to asana practice, you can't compare them, there is no ujayi breath or bhanda or drishti in ballet practice. Ballet is obviously very physically intense and requires a lot of concentration, but is has a very different effect on the mind and body in comparison with ashtanga yoga practice, This is obvious if you just consider the way in which asana practice revolves around accumulating pranic energy in the body, ballet does not have this effect. Peace.
It's been almost half a year since I did my last Sun Salutation. (Yes, I'm a 'bad' man!) Because I strained myself so much mentally and physically (with ego) I gave it up for a while.
But now I did my Sun Salutation again and it was without so much strain. I can take practice without ego, that is somehow the greatest thing in the world for me.
If someone could upload the short forms video that would be really cool.
