Philological? Could you explain why you characterized this music as being philological in character within the Oxford dictionary's (et. al.) definition of philology?
Philology, an older term for linguistics, and especially for the branch of linguistic study devoted to comparative and historical research into the development of languages. In a wider sense, the term sometimes also covers the study of literary texts. A researcher in this scholarly field is a philologist.
This is one of my favorite piano concertos! (I knew it only by its "Stravinsky conducts Stravinksy" original orchestral version, plus some other ones, not at Stravinsky's performance level). Thanks for youtubing the piano-rolls: this is very philological in character. Do there exist the rolls of the other movements?
