@dardha That sounds like fun. You know though they seem barbaric they actually had a great list of laws of battle. Very close to chivalry. They were accustomed to the common man fighting back. Its how they grew up. They lived in one of the harshest landscapes in Europe. And in order to keep both their identity and their people alive they had to take supplies. The alternate would be to assimilate into the rest of the Germanic peoples.

They left nothing of importance in their wake. They spread and colonized most of Europe, fine, that I agree with. Today, as we stand and contemplate on our European legacy, nothing of value comes from Vikings. Be it in engineering, literature, legislation, art, tradition etc, etc.

That predates the first crusade by almost 4 centuries, Not to mention the Arab invasions of the Levant, Egypt, and North Africa all of which had their own vibrant cultures before being occupied and Arabized. For exampel, swedes have a history to constant question its authority in peace but blindly follow it in war. Behaviors like this can be tracked back to ones history/traditions. Actually, anyone who's read the book would know that the author based it on "Beowulf", with a bunch of cannabalistic Neanderthals - certainly almost the last of their people - playing the parts of the monsters - even the dragon that in the end killed the King of the Geats. Yes, great poetic license was taken, but a great book and movie resulted. Which bunch of Vikings it was is irrelevant: they were simply termed Northmen, which could apply to any group.
