i dunno if it was this version or Berry's version but apparently it sounds like this because there was one overhead microphone for singer and the rest of the band. He had to sing basically by looking straight up or something. Just somethign i remember i heard on the radio.
Always loved this. Wasn't there an urban myth about this being a very dirty song? Sounds a little like punk meets reggae to me. I'm sure the dirty lyric rumor made us love it all the more.
Hey just a question, you said you downloaded this before on youtube. May I ask how you did that! LOL didnt think you could. Would be very apprieciated if you could let me know how! Also love the song and vid!!
I used a FLV player download thing, but i think the company that made the software have closed down, but if you google search "HOW TO DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS", then other flv players and tutorials will come up
we have this music today: you can always listen to this kind of music. and it exists. if bands would always make the same kind of music, than it would be like you have to eat your favourite meal every day..: not good after a while.
this is no problem. there was great music decades ago like this. and there is other great music today, which should be discovered.
don't throw things away just because you are not open minded enough and are not able to appreciate..
This always me think of undergrad. I can't listen to it and not smile. We would always sing it after too many cocktails and fake the words. Blamed not knowing the words on alcohol- just a good excuse.

these fuckers made a boatload of dough off this song and all the bs about the "secret message " the FBI thought was in the song and all that crap and the poor bastard who wrote it didnt see 1 penny from it for almost 40 years
Very true. It's hysterical that the song was BANNED from alotta radio when it came out becuase the unintelligible lyrics (though innocent) were thought to be sexually explicit when there was an F-bomb dropped right in the middle of the song!
1965 - the year I graduated from high school. Wow! BEST rock 'n roll song ever...what rock 'n roll's all about...borrowing a song from Jamaica, making a glaring mistake, and simple lyrics...even if no one understood them then!
wicked cool, 50 year old guy that grew up on this song. my first introduction yo rock and roll. i was 8 years old 1966. thanks for this clip! it is now my all time favorite on the tube. thanks agin
I was in my mid-teens when this song was released. I remember sitting in my room listening to the 45 and trying to hear the dirty words in the song. I even turned the speed down to 33-1/3 to try to hear the lyrics. The truth is that the singer was just slurring over words of the song he didn't know.
Part of that video looks like it was taken from the groups appearance on Where The Action Is, a great after school program produced by Dick Clark. I raced home to see the show every day.
Don't quote me, but it seems to me that 'Louie Louie' was on the charts twice. It was origianally released in '63 and then came back in '65. 'Where the Action Is' started in late '65, which featured the Knickerbockers a lot.
martylmiton, I can very much relate to you, was doing the same thing, he wasn't slurring though, this song caused guite a comotion, remember they banned this song.
FBI received some information about this tune when it came out. That perhaps it had some very lewd phrasing along with some type of hidden meaning. It was examined and investigated in secret. The audiometer and voice playbacks were pretty much impossible to understand the actual wording. Their conclusion was maybe a harmless sea chantey? True story. Phil P.
Amazing song. Onto my 4th listen in a row.....
