Shows how dumb you are, JKD is not even an style of combat it a philosophy of Bruce Lee, and also Dan Inosanto incorporated a lot of Kali in making Jun Fan(combat part of JKD). And how in your right mind can you say that this art is useless you lazy ass? No art is useless, every art is situational. combining them all and using them according to the situation is part of the philosophy of JKD.
Hehehe pathfinder0009, it's nice to have a fellow Filipino around here! ^_^ Anyways, as said, JKD's parenthood ranged from many styles of martial arts... from Boxing, Wing Chun, probably FMA and a lot more...
I also have to agree with jerjeriyot, it's rare to find certified FMA instructors and practitioners... There are those few among many in the world... some Filipinos and non-Filipinos... But you can be sure that an instructor is one with the "GrandMaster" title
becuz that puts u in attacking range hemay b in attacking range when u do it but u have to also mind the other stick cuz once u hit him there he can easily attack u two
well kali/escrima is a fighting style with the use weapons such as the stick or knife/ blade.
FMA has many styles, includes mano-mano(hand to hand techniques and disabling moves),baraw, mano y daga(disabling an oponent w/ a knife/stick) etc . i forget the others but FMA is all about self defense wtih or w/out weapons.thats FMA buddy =).
@KenBuDO Why don't you have a look at Rick youngs web site then you will find out more info ! i trained with Rick over twenty years ago and is one the best allround martial artist in the world, as for Black belts he has one in judo one in karate and one in bjj he also won gold in the world bjj championships and also won european and pan american bjj championships. He's a instructor under Dan Inosanto and an instructor in CSW under the one and only Erik Paulson.
All they're doing are figure 8 and sinawali drills mixed together. Look how Rick holds his sticks...NO PUNO!!! Anyone's school that has "black belt: in the title should be avoided 'cause they're probably a McDojo.
I understand what you mean - I have been to a few schools in the USA and Canada where they have the logo: we are a black belt school, not good!!But Rick Young is genuine so you should do your research before you go and bad-mouth someone who is a highly respected and talented instructor in JKD under Guro Dan Inosanto.
do you realize that most people, Filipinos or not, wont take up the art if not for Dan Inosanto(FilAm) and his students(non-Filipinos) introduced it to the media and mainstream MA community?
maybe dan has a great contribution of this arts in terms of exposure to the world. but it cant be denied that there are many less-known native filipinos who know more this styles than him (dan).
Not true, its rare to find anyone who are knowledgeable with so many styles like Dan. Also, there are non-Filipinos who are way more knowledgeable and play better than many Filipino FMAers regardless of styles Its not a given that if you're a Filipino then you are automatically an FMA expert. Many Filipinos never even heard of FMA/arnis/escrima/kali.
i never said that being a filipinos can be considered as an FMA expert. what i mean is there are some not-known fililipinos who know better about FMA than what dan knows about it. and this is based in my personal experience and observation. however, i really respect Dan for his great knowledge and contribution in FMA. i salute him!

@ kuntawista
the "no punyo" thing is a legit grip used by largo players. What you should be wary of is when guys are doing largo with long punyo :)

What are you talking about? AFAIC, its a clean, clear and decent representation of the art. You want to post links to those "real" arnis?

wrong moves foreigner! you have no knowledge how to use arnis in actual fight...
