I hate when people compare every new progressive metal band with meshuggah... Don't get me wrong, Meshuggah is definitely one of my favorite bands ever, but people just gotta listen to the music instead of trying to say how Band X is completely ripping of Meshuggah, or Band Y is shit compared to Meshuggah. Those people need to grow the fuck up and just listen to the music.
Meshuggah and Textures are BOTH great. I don't think they should be compared, even how much you want to argue one is more "djent" than the other. I like things about Meshuggah better than Textures, and some things about Textures more than Meshuggah. I think they have pretty distinct sounds.
@ daniellaurine, who said anyone picked the wrong song? there stuff is amazing i dont see your band up hear playing any music. this stuff is there softer side. and who ever commented on it and liked it awsome. but dont say we picked the wrong song, were all not as inconsiderate to music as you are!
looking for video game textures, listened to this =) nice i dont like this style sounds very sloww , lol i like the lyrics very poetic i like poetic music =P dikai kashio ftw!!! lol
@Raffael900me Thordendal sure does know something about harmonics and melody - check out his leadpart in the second half of "Straws pulled at ranodm" or his several solo pieces.
@Raffael900me They know melody and music are. And if you did too, you might understand that their music (like music should be) is about the effect the sound has on the human mind.
i wouldnt call it musical masterpiece.. its nice. i find this more listenable than their more metal stuff, which is too repetetive IMHO before i get flamed. I much prefer Tesseract and Animals as Leaders, even Scale the Summit..
i never heard this band before...i like it sofar...only thing i have to say is it sounds a little drawn out i would of liked more changes...they stayed with the same theme too long and it made it boring but i'll check out more of them
You picked the wrong song. Some of their songs sound very much like the polyryhmic madness of Meshuggah. Try the songs Regenesis, Millstone, & Laments of an Icarus. Not to say one is better than the other, but Textures covers a broader range of styles than Meshuggah does.
@daniellaurine they sound like meshuggah but meshuggah looks down at these guys rhythm wise these guys are more melodic then meshuggah. Meshuggah just like to sound like musical machines. They are just as good
@DanteLeblanc dude im sure most djent fans know that meshuggah started djent, so we dont have to hear dbags like you on every djent page that every djent band has to be refered to meshuggah
@metalhead6777777 If you would have read the comment I was replying to, you'd have found that I wasn't the one who brought Meshuggah up. Daniellaurine was saying how Textures covers a broader range of music, but seriously, you do not know what the fuck you're talking about if you believe Textures comes remotely close to the skill and superiority of Th3 Shugg. I mean what is Textures? Cynic influenced "djent"-metalcore? I can't even stand but a few of these songs.
@DanteLeblanc I think what he was saying is that Meshuggah only really does one style, which is what makes them Meshuggah, and what puts them so far above the rest. But obviously this song is a different style than other Textures songs, so in that way they cover a broader range of "styles"
@batteryacidcake - not sure if that was meant in a condescending way... I was using the term "madness" as a compliment as it's a flavor I commonly enjoy in music.
@else - had no idea my comment had been promoted to the top so I should clarify that my comment was indeed a response to someone (as it doesn't seem to show) who had come to this song after being recommended this band. Probably a near worthless effort as this comment will be lost. Also, to correct my own mistake - "polyrhythmic"
I almost fully agree with you. I think anyone who plays in odd time signatures or polyrhythms gets compared to Meshuggah. I've even heard Tool be compared to them... I don't see much comparison other than the time signature. I agree with you. Textures does NOT sound like Meshuggah. Ha ha. I love both bands for their OWN sound.
DAMN GOOD!!!!

At 6:05 there is meant to be an epic melodic prog metal explosion, but they accidentally leant on the master volume controls. :P

Textures is one of those bands.
