"The First Christmas Record For Children" - I still have the album! It also introduced me to Jimmy Boyd's I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, Doris Day's Here Comes Santa Claus, Gene Autry's He'll Be Coming Down The Chimney, and Rosemary Clooney's Suzy Snowflake & C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S, and a story by Captain Kangaroo called The Littlest Snowman. Happy, secure memories indeed!
Sad but true. It is now the day after Christmas and all has been forgotten about and the world returns to the cynical place it was before. Sadness still rules this planet and our lives. But like the little tree and Santa, for a brief moment, the world does give thanks and praise to the important things. I hope to never see it go but little by little it will, then that will be the end of us all. Merry Christmas not only the day after but all year around. Be sure to invite goodness/mercy always.
My mom owned this record and played it every year for me at my request also. Oh how I wish I still had that album but at least I hound it on mp3, It brings back so many precious memories of my childhood. I am 43 know and have looked for this for years.

I grew up with this too and luckily found it years ago on limewire...at least my boy's got to grow up with this too~ still brings a tear to my brothers and my eyes. i'm 41 as well and a mom with 11 and 13 year old boy's of my own~ we're in canada and political correctness is rampant here too, christmas is almost squeezed out these days...God Bless you for posting this Christmas story!! Merry Christmas one and all!!!!
This is classic and hard to find. Thanks for posting. We played this every Christmas when I was growing up. This is better if you turn the lights down and just listen. The video can't do justice to the mind's imagination.
Yay , I love these songs , listend to these all my growing years with my sister and brother's ....... My mom would play the Christmas Music for us all thru the season each year .... So many wonderful memories of years past !! Now my kids and my grandchildren will love like I did and still do !! ....Red Skelton was always my favorite I watched him everytime he was on tv ... I miss that ...
I have wonderful memories of this. My mom listened to the record growing up. And while I was growing up we would listen to the recording on a tape every time we decorated the tree. When my girls get bigger, I hope to share it with them. The album first christmas record for children has MANY songs that are special to my grandmother, my mom and me. I hope to my girls as well.
This album, especially this track, was the start of the Christmas season for my brother and I as we were growing up. By the time we were in our teens, the album was done. I did copy it onto a tape just before, but even this is done. I bought the CD some years ago, but was greatly disapointed the this track wasn't on it. I want to give a big thank you for putting this online. Now I can share this with my family.
Greatest memory of my childhood Christmas'!!! I remember my mom playing this Album every year and every year I played this one over and over and over :) Thanks for postinging this GREAT memory!!!!
Oh my gosh! The trees voice sounds VERY familiar. Could it be the same voice who did the little bear in "Rudolph's Shiny New Year? "Come back, yous my friend!" LOL
This takes me back. Memories good and bad. Makes you stop and think. I listened to this as a kid and now I listen to it with my wife and kids. Red was right on with this one. Good night and God Bless
OMG i love this!!! for the last 16 years, since i can remember ive been listening to this during Christmas TIME. i still cry every time i hear it and think of it has a beautiful story. plus its told by one of my favorite comedians, Red Skelton. :D i love this story and i love how it is told.
It never ceases to amaze me, you can find anything on Youtube! I have tested with the most obscure stuff from my childhood, and someone has posted it! Thanks man, this is a gem!!! I wish I knew where to get the album, I remember it was red with Santa on the cover... Peace, and Merry Christmas!
@sheila2806 Hi. I found this CD online about 5 or 6 years ago. The only problem is that The Littlest Christmas Tree isn't on it. It has another song from this era. I don't rememer where I found it, but is out there.
Thank you so much for posting this! I listen to this every year and my Christmas wouldn't be complete without it. I looked for this forever. Thank you!
I have this album and no longer have a record player. I have listened to this ever since I was in the First Grade. I know have my children who are 10 and 7 listen to it every year. This is a true masterpeice!
@cscoley Columbia's first christmas album for children. It also contains captain kangaroos "littlest snowman. It is available on cd. I bought one on ebay.
This album with this story can be found on isohunt torrent site. Type in the title of the album and you will see it about 9 spaces down in the search results.
you can no longer get it on the album because his estate will not allow it. it is a shame that families cannot purchase this! those that grew up with it have so many good memories of this story! the older you get, the more you understand its real meaning!!!
you don't how long I have been looking for this . I have looked for this albulm for many years. My children grew up with this album. They are now grown and I have been looking to introduce the grandchildren to this story. Thank you so.....much for posting this . I can not tell you how much this means to me.
I have been looking for this for years. Couldn't remember the name and came across it today. Brings back so many memories as a child and the real meaning of Christmas.
I grew up listening to this as generations have. This brings me back to the days where Santa was a symbol of giving as Christ gave to us, not a symbol of greed and secularism. At forty-one, it is shameful to see what political correctness has done to Christmas here in America. I pray that we will not become the Godless nation that Santa speaks of in this recording. God bless you for posting this and remember that Jesus is the reason for the season Merry Christmas and Thank you for posting.
Thanks so much for posting. This was on a Christmas record that went on the stack every Thanksgiving and was played endlessly until new years day. What patience my mother had to listen to it thousands of times. It was a great family treasure. A shame no one would air it today.
This recording always made my siblings and I cry when I was a kid in the sixties, early seventies because the tree only had a few days left to live. Why? I would wonder. That didn't seem right. It got me thinking about artificial trees even back then.
This recording and the Yule log on wpix NY, NY was always part of Christmas as a kid. Thanks for posting!
My sister has commented and like her I remember this text. The clear portrayal of two worldviews is something I missed as a child. This record made me appreciate this time of year and as I got older I saw a clearer difference between two worldviews, one of freedom and one of tyranny, one of thanksgiving and joy and one of oppression. This record makes me want to celebrate the season in joy as a tribute to our freedom.
Thank you for posting this. I have been searching antique stores for this album. I am hearing impaired and I used to sit in front of the stereo and listen to this story for hours. Looking back I think I could understand it the most. Whenever I think of christmas I think of this story. You have made my holiday.
I still have the original LP from my childhood of this...and yes, previous poster -- ncbeachgirl, the reproduction does NOT have this UN-PC story. The first time I remember hearing it, I was about 9 years old. It was Christmas Eve. My mother was hundreds of miles away with my oldest sister, she was suffering from what should have been a terminal cancerous tumor.
This is by far still my favorite Christmas song. Boy it takes me back. Thank you for posting it. I wish we could buy it. I even bought the the CD of the album but of course they left it out which has made a lot of people upset. Why would they not offer this to the public? What money they would make!
Thank you so much for posting this.I used to have the record and would listen to it all the time when i was younger. You have brought back a flood full of great childhood memories to me.Thank you again and Merry Christmas!!!
I remeber my brothers and I camping out in front of the stereo with our pillows and blankets and listenting to this story over and over. We would take turns getting up and returning the needle to the appropriate "groove" on the album, we littlerally could not hear this story enough. This is my fondest Christmas memory of all times. Thank you so much for posting this, I litterally thought I would never here this message again.
I haven't heard this since a child. I loved it then and still do. It caused tears as a child and does today as well. It doesn't matter what it means politically then or now. Just that we should honor the true and real meaning of CHRISTmas.
I barely remember it when I was about 6. It made me cry too and think about my purpose in life. I just heard it this CHRISTmas and it has been truly a blessing. I am thankful too that there are some many people on here that remember and cherish things like this.
Bless your soul. This is a classic recording that the idiots at Red Skelton's estate refuse to release. This IS CHRISTMAS and everyone should just ignore the propaganda of Cold War and just think of it as a historical story that everyone should enjoy with a good moral at the end. Thanks to you, there is hope for carrying on Red Skelton's work for another generation. This is awesome and thank you.
thank you so much for posting this, every year as a child, my mother would play that story as soon as my father and i finished decorating the tree, we would stop all that we were doing, turn off all the lights except for the tree, and sit there and listen to the story, a tradition started in the late sisties, which I carry on for the family till today, tears come to my eye every time i hear santa talk about gods prayer of peace on earth is still alive, thank you and as Red would say, God Bless
I noticed the Raceland sweatshirt in one of the pictures, it that KY? It's weird, I watched this last year and didn't notice it, I was just looking for this story that I grew up with. Glad you posted this.
My mom used to play this for my brother and I at Christmastime when we were little. Thank you so much for creating the video to go with this and for posting it for all to enjoy! What a wonderful memory...I only hope kids today may enjoy it as much as we did!
This was great. I wanted to listen to something from Christ-mas to COOL off and I found this priceless recording of Red Skelton. We will all listen to it this Christmas! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
The only person in Heaven that could make the angels laugh was Red. I remember how sad I felt the day I learned that he passed away. He's the only comedian that's made me laugh until I cried.
His life wasn't easy at all, but through life's challenges, he made millions over laugh, think, and appreciate all we've been given.
Wow, it has been a loooooong time. It really warms my heart. It reminds me of how great life is. It WILL be heard this next Christmas. Thank you so mu ch for sharing
I taped this off the album back in the 70's at a radio station where I worked.
A tear came to my eye every year I played it. The phones would go silent when I put it on. Everybody would be listening. I lost the tape maybe 20 years ago. Now I can play it again!
