I am SO glad that I found this...I grew up listening to this as a child at my grandparents' house...I have looked for it and never been able to find it...I now have it to share with my kids, even if they are teenagers...I have shared many old shows with them, including the Red Skelton Show and they love it...he was a true comic genius...thanks again for the posting...

It also introduced me to Jimmy Boyd's I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, Doris Day's Here Comes Santa Claus, Gene Autry's He'll Be Coming Down The Chimney, and Rosemary Clooney's Suzy Snowflake & C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S, and a story by Captain Kangaroo called The Littlest Snowman. Sad but true. It is now the day after Christmas and all has been forgotten about and the world returns to the cynical place it was before. Sadness still rules this planet and our lives. But like the little tree and Santa, for a brief moment, the world does give thanks and praise to the important things. I hope to never see it go but little by little it will, then that will be the end of us all. Merry Christmas not only the day after but all year around. Be sure to invite goodness/mercy always.

I grew up with this too and luckily found it years ago on limewire...at least my boy's got to grow up with this too~ still brings a tear to my brothers and my eyes. i'm 41 as well and a mom with 11 and 13 year old boy's of my own~ we're in canada and political correctness is rampant here too, christmas is almost squeezed out these days...God Bless you for posting this Christmas story!! I have wonderful memories of this. My mom listened to the record growing up. And while I was growing up we would listen to the recording on a tape every time we decorated the tree. When my girls get bigger, I hope to share it with them. The album first christmas record for children has MANY songs that are special to my grandmother, my mom and me. I hope to my girls as well.

This album, especially this track, was the start of the Christmas season for my brother and I as we were growing up. By the time we were in our teens, the album was done. I did copy it onto a tape just before, but even this is done. I bought the CD some years ago, but was greatly disapointed the this track wasn't on it. I grew up listening to this as generations have. This brings me back to the days where Santa was a symbol of giving as Christ gave to us, not a symbol of greed and secularism. Thanks so much for posting. This was on a Christmas record that went on the stack every Thanksgiving and was played endlessly until new years day. What patience my mother had to listen to it thousands of times. It was a great family treasure. A shame no one would air it today.

This recording always made my siblings and I cry when I was a kid in the sixties, early seventies because the tree only had a few days left to live. Why? I would wonder. That didn't seem right. It got me thinking about artificial trees even back then.

My sister has commented and like her I remember this text. The clear portrayal of two worldviews is something I missed as a child. This record made me appreciate this time of year and as I got older I saw a clearer difference between two worldviews, one of freedom and one of tyranny, one of thanksgiving and joy and one of oppression. This record makes me want to celebrate the season in joy as a tribute to our freedom.

Thank you for posting this. I have been searching antique stores for this album. I am hearing impaired and I used to sit in front of the stereo and listen to this story for hours. Looking back I think I could understand it the most. Whenever I think of christmas I think of this story. You have made my holiday.

I still have the original LP from my childhood of this...and yes, previous poster -- ncbeachgirl, the reproduction does NOT have this UN-PC story. The first time I remember hearing it, I was about 9 years old. It was Christmas Eve. My mother was hundreds of miles away with my oldest sister, she was suffering from what should have been a terminal cancerous tumor.

I remeber my brothers and I camping out in front of the stereo with our pillows and blankets and listenting to this story over and over. We would take turns getting up and returning the needle to the appropriate "groove" on the album, we littlerally could not hear this story enough. This is my fondest Christmas memory of all times. This IS CHRISTMAS and everyone should just ignore the propaganda of Cold War and just think of it as a historical story that everyone should enjoy with a good moral at the end. thank you so much for posting this, every year as a child, my mother would play that story as soon as my father and i finished decorating the tree, we would stop all that we were doing, turn off all the lights except for the tree, and sit there and listen to the story, a tradition started in the late sisties, which I carry on for the family till today, tears come to my eye every time i hear santa talk about gods prayer of peace on earth is still alive, thank you and as Red would say, God Bless

The only person in Heaven that could make the angels laugh was Red. I remember how sad I felt the day I learned that he passed away. He's the only comedian that's made me laugh until I cried.

His life wasn't easy at all, but through life's challenges, he made millions over laugh, think, and appreciate all we've been given.

A tear came to my eye every year I played it. The phones would go silent when I put it on. Everybody would be listening. I lost the tape maybe 20 years ago. Now I can play it again!
