  • Does anybody know who is palying the drum?

  • 2 people did something and heard nothing from someone.

  • HE BROKE UP WITH HIS WIFE FOR THE BABYSITTER WITH A MESSAGE ON THE WIFE'S ANSWERING MACHINE,..IRONIC?

  • Sry to say, but I don't like Phil's singing in this number. The music itself is fantastic, is should be instrumental till the end...

  • me enamoré hace años, con esta canción.............

  • THIS ... Is a masterpiece! Doesn't get a whole lot betta'! As an 'older' musician this is what I just love to hear ... and play!!! :)

Thanks to ALL for this one!

  • THIS.... Is a masterpiece!!! Doesn't get a whole lot better. As an 'older' musician myself, this is what I love to hear, and play!!! Thanks!!!

  • A great rendition - what in French would be called "une grande reference" of a great jazz (not R&B) standard. Really puts Phil up there as a very good jazz singer . Quincy's orchestration's a thing of beauty but that's not him conducting, is it ?

If you want a great female version of this song, try Ella's (slow) or Karrin Allyson's (fast, almost uptempo).

  • Love this version with Phil the most, wonderful!!

  • Timeless, thanks for posting :-)

  • I love this song! Who on earth was trying to compare Quincy Jones to Kanye West? Only real producers can write music for a Jazz Orchestra for sure! Music today, especially the "Auto Tune" music that young people are dancing to a lot hardly makes sense to me in terms of true enjoyment.

  • It's music, man, real music. I knew Phil was good but now I have even more respect/admiration for him. Good arrangement. Good performance. Bravo.

  • Correction this is not and old R&B standard, one of the greatest musician composer and writers ped this as JAZZ standard, please read about these songs before making a comments like that. The Great Duke Ellington did the music and

Bob Russell the lyrics. I am not taking anything away from Phill, he is by far one of lthe best I have head to sing this song and still keep the true flavorings.

  • @MelvaHouston Bob Russell is definitely one of my favorite lyricists - and what a variety of tunes he penned - This one, of course; Don't Get Around Much Anymore (check out Sammy Davis Jr's live performance of that one on David Letterman), You Came a Long Way from St. Louis, Frenesi, Brazil...and even Little Richard's "The Girl Can't Help It" and his last, "He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother". What a genius...

  • I love this Phil Collins version of this song. A great combination, and I can listen to it over and over. Beautiful song brought back by a modern singer,

  • Lyrics by one of my favorite songwriters, Bob Russell (who also wrote lyrics for Frenesi, Don't Get Around Much Anymore, and such diverse ones as "The Girl Can't Help It" (Little Richard) and the Hollies "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"...

  • Every time I see this guy, he amazes me. I never imagined him doing this, but he made it his own. Bravo Phil Collins.

  • This song was sang beautifuly by Phil Collins I do indeed have this song on my iPod. I love Phil Collins!!!! (=

  • @volgurl11 ~ Toni Tennille also did a phenomenal cover of this Ellington classic on one of her albums of old standards. Good music never dies!

  • Love this song. Does anyone know where I can download it?

  • try ares 30th Montreaux Jazz Festival

    1996

  • Only album I know its on is "Q's Jook Joint" - check iTunes for that. HTH

  • @JaneyFansite Yup

  • First time hearing this song I was like. Ah, okay. Now I keep on listening it to it over and over and it is growning on me I love it, also he is looking goregous in this!

  • Nathan East on bass i think

  • con esta canción me enamoré de un sin verguenza, pero mientras duro la cancion fue bonito

  • ers una riata phil lo mas grande que a dado la musica

  • sencillamente magnifico !!!!! bravo Phill and quincy !!!

  • loooove it!!!!!

  • This just shows the Genius of Quincy Jones. To take the gifts of someone extraordinary like Phil Collins and put him in a completely different genre like an old R&B standard and have him sound incredible. Im not taking anything away from Phil. I love his voice and already by himself, Phil Collins Has got Soul!

It just needed Q to put it all together :)

  • It shows the genius of Q, in part. But, Phil built this particular band, hired Q for this gig, is the co-arranger of all the material & conceptualized the Phil Collins big band. all that couldn't be taken away from Phil anyway.

  • No, this arrangement was first recorded for Q's 1995 album "Jook Joint". On a different note, has nobody noticed how the trumpet is spectacularly out of tune in the first bit?

  • No? Did you read my last comment (I wrote two months ago) carefully before writing to me? I know about the 1995 arrangement and how brilliant Q is. This is from "Phil Collins Big Band" show. It's called that for a reason. Actually, nevermind. I'm slipping into Internet fight teritory. Embarrasing & out of line on my part. I take it back. This is all Quincy Jones, and Collins had nothing to do with it - good?

  • I beg you a pardon ??? Your so called "R&B" hasn't been around when this JAZZ standard was written... Other than that perfect comment!:)

  • This track once i played to a lady who sadi her boy friends like very much Phil Collins. I played for her almost 5 minutes and she just guesed but not sure, is thi Phil Collins? When i said yes she was like WOW!!!!!

  • I'll be honest i don't particularly like Phil Collins but how can you not like this wow this is awesome just the band alone make it! Thanks for posting.

  • You don't like Phil (I can't imagine why. Unless, he did something to you personally) - that's your business. But, the rest of us like Phil. That's why we post, visit, etc. Why are you here? And, please don't say "I was linked here" or "I was looking up the song". Because, his name is above - before the title of the song. You knew exactly what you were looking for. What's up?

  • my parents danced to this on there wedding

    :)

  • Love this . Phil you did great, love your talent. I'm more "Rock & Roll", but do like Jazz, and w/ Phil , well makes it all much better! Awesome.

  • I'm not sure, but I think this song is a remake.

  • what else can you ask for here, you have Phil Collins, Nathan East and Quincy Jones

  • is it possible to find this track on iTunes?

  • The original recording of this song was called "Concerto for Cootie".It was an instrumental. Not sure when Bob Russell wrote the lyrics for it.

  • Phil is the band leader/producer. And Quincy Jones is the Conducor/Co-producer. There's no way you can go wrong.

  • At 2:56, was that Gerald Albright?

  • Yep.. Sure was :)

  • Who sang the original of this song?

  • GREAT! Was there and love this song, here with Quincy Jones as conductor

  • WOW. That is beautiful! Thanks for uploading!

  • ; ) i love this song
