where the girl with the purple dress? My goodness! I need to finish season 2, but season one was awesome. upstairs down stairs was a zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. ZEN is the BOMB!
Since "Downton Abbey" is set in Yorkshire, I wonder if any of the actors are speaking with Yorkshire accents. I can't tell one English accent from another, though. God bless.
@hamburgerhelperflick Just don't put me in the room where the dead Turk ended up! I think I might expire after a night with Lady Mary too, but there'd be a smile on my face tho :)
I hate to say it, but I didn't start watching this show on PBS but actually Netflix (a few weeks ago). I live in Canada but I'm actually American so whenever I'm visiting my mom, I check out Netflix on my iPhone there. I'm curious as to why it is not available on Netflix in Canada? I'm glad I was bored one day and just had to see what the show was all about. I had to buy the episodes on iTunes after watching the first episode and part of the second at my mom's...very addictive show.
I cannot understand the attraction of Brandon Coyle as John Bates who "Anna" finds irresistible. Coyle is only 48 years old! He looks over 60! His fat flabby face leaves me cold. Bad casting IMO! Other than that I love the show.
I don't quite understand why they all became so shut when the man comes with that question at 33''. I mean, did it sound offensive? Dan answer's to it made it sounds like a really offensive question...
This moderator is really a drag on this Q & A. She's either too much of a fan of Downton Abbey, or too little of a professional to be able to effectively execute the duties of being a moderator. I don't know where she was picked from or why she was chosen for the job but certainly there had to have been a better option.
Fantastic show! Informative Q & A with the exception of the moderator (speaking too much) and the few "dumb it down' for the American pbs audience jokes - I'm a New Zealander and found that latter down right annoying! But alas....Downton Abbey is phenomenal!
thanks for this insightful video, however, coming from PBS, I must say that the production quality was not very good and the coughing just about blew my ears out.
@Bibbabble I think he's alluding to the Occupy Wall Street stuff now (hence the moderator's joke "Occupy Downton!"). He's asking if working on a show that portrays so much culture class disparity between the servants and the residents changed the actors' own political outlook on the disparity today. I think Dan Stevens was being a little mean. It was probably a valid enough question, but I agree that it's just a TV show. That's just how it was back then.
Maggie Smith has about 90% of the most halirious and yet revealing one-liners. In fact, almost every scene with her has something good in it. Even if it is just her eyes or facial expressions, for a split second...
Cool, calculating, and unruffled Smith and the perpetually surprised and multi-tasking frumpy quirky chief cook --- chef, really, in today's world --- downstairs who are given most of the fun lines.
If Downton Abbey was a feature film it would win 9 Oscars and break box office records. It’s in the class of The Kings Speech. Beautifully filmed, directed, cast, costume design, script, sound, music, best actor and actress.
Truer words: "Great storytelling is great storytelling. Great characters are great characters. And whether they are dealing crack or serving tea...if it's good you'll get into it."
@holypotatoes01 I thought so too watching her during Downton and it is worse here. I think you pick up ways of speaking or accents where you live, but it is quite jaring.
Matthew Crawley watches The Wire, WIN.

@cbalducc Many of the "downstairs" cast are in fact Yorkshire born, as the bios say. But most good actors can do regional accents.

This show's storylines are VERY weak. It's as if it's written for fourteen year olds.
