  • Yep saw it, had to pause a couple of time to catch it.

  • lol it looks like some dumb vampire, and on i saw some of the images when i watched the dvd

  • Let me just share that the images of Pazuzu that they show.... are supposed to be there. There slowed them down so we could see them with our eyes. In the original version the images weren't caught by your eyes but in your mind. That's why people were getting sick and whatnot. This is an intentional subliminal image.

  • you recording the TV screen showing a well-known fact of the movie... so fail...

  • It's not a subliminal message. In order for it to be subliminal, you have to not be aware of it.

  • what is that anyone? its purpose?

  • What's the message?

  • If you watch the restored "Version You've Never Seen Before", you'll see this face make a few appearances. The whole idea of this was that was the face of the demon, and during certain parts of the film it shows up to show you the state of the demon at the moment. (You see this same face during the exorcism itself flashed, and you can tell it's in distress). This isn't subliminal per se, but more of a plot device.

  • Agree with Emowolf. The fact that you can see it and are aware of it makes it, by definition, NOT subliminal.

  • @luminutty1 Yup and was played by Eileen Dietz

  • WTF is that?!

  • Doesn't Subliminal mean Affecting someones mind without them being aware of it?.. I could clearly see the image when the video was playing normally o.0... I know you said not to say it not subliminal.... But it really isn't...

  • Oh God what a horrible face. And he´s holding a camera!!

  • well the director and crew of the movie said they didnt know where those images was popping up because it also popup when the girl was laying on the bed looking out as if he was scared and also that they filmed in a house that was haunted but i believe it was put there to scare people

  • @BeatmakerzUp "Pazuzu" is not a reference to an ancient civilization. Pazuzu is an ancient Babylonian demon that brought upon droughts and locusts. So the film is based on ancient mythological history.

  • Lol this made my friend leave my girlfriend's house when we watched this. He's the butt of our jokes for that.

  • well this image IS part of the film. The sublimital image of a face that the producers tried to remove but kept reappearing was NOT shown in this clip....because it IS sublimital. Of course i say this only because of what I learned from a documentary, I don't claim to be an expert on the subject. It is however, a creepy movie; a true horror film dealing with one's psychy!

  • The face was a subliminal image? I thought it was there just to scary people as you never expect it to appear.

  • @rutoto That's because it's only there in the 2000 re-released edition, called "The Exorcist-The Version You've Never Seen." (Well, if it IS in the original 1973 version, it's only there SUBLIMINALLY, which would mean that, no, you WOULDN'T see it!

  • srry for typos

  • there are multiple images in this movie, when the lights flicker when shes in the kitchen look at the stove hood, right after that it will go down the hall to the girls room andpan in on the back of the door demons head will apear also. and in the window peering in from out side

  • That image also appears when Regans mother has arrived home and she's in the kitchen when the light flicker then go out. Just as they come back on again that face appears just to the right of her head...............creepy

  • is that william dafoe?

  • i dont know if its on youtube i cant find it but i remember there being another face when i watched it i think its just before he gets pushed out of the building.

  • I love that you ask everyone if it's a subliminal message in your title then say "please dont tell me its not subliminal, its for canversation", what do you think the conversations are going to be about, bunch of people saying it IS subliminal?

    you sir are a jabroni

  • wat is a subniminal message

  • Tommy James is the devil.

  • I just watched the Exorcist. Has anyone ever noticed the evil face that quickly flashes on the oven vent whil the mother is walking through the kitchen??

  • Your joking right...???

  • What a fucking dumb cunt u are

  • @BeatmakerzUp Father Damian's face. Then a some of Pazuzu are shown a couple of times in the house.

  • holy shit dude, there is something on your right side!!!!!!

  • OMG that cant be real HELP i see a guy with camera HELP

  • omg...i see a reflection of person with a web cam...so scary...so conspiracy....so subliminal....

  • @Damzel666 i did its just to be a dream like state

  • my friends and i watched the exorcist over 50 times stoned over the summer of 1987 and we would always pause the vcr on the "face" and everytime i felt some sort of uneasiness...the anniversary edition dvd shows all the trailers for it and one is nothing but flashes of faces..its so evil i fuckin love it...my fave horror movie of all time

  • @mikeisa42

You mean you actually liked that freaking exorcist girl face?

  • I don't think it was meant to be subliminal. I think it was very much intended. It always scared the heck outta me, though.

  • I hope that Captain Howdy possesses Lyor Cohen. (WMG CEO.)

  • i think that that is pazuzu, yknow, the demon who poseses reagan

  • these types of flash frames are throughout this whole movie.

  • perhaps your reflection in the tv as you film is the subliminal message... love the guy reading the paper to the right ;)

  • Gets kinda cheap/gimmicky in the long run.

  • jeez that face was the only scary thing in the movie lol

  • well i wouldn't consider it subliminal, it's just the face of pazuzu. There are parts of the movie where it appears quicker but I'm not really sure what the technical details of 'subliminal' are.

  • I'm glad you posted this. I had this image occasionally flash in my eyes while falling asleep for maybe several years (not real often), and when a friend of mine paused it on the VHS machine and made me stare at it, it never happened again. The face is what I'm referring to. There was a lawsuit in the 70's where a guy fell down and broke his jaw when this image flashed into his mind. They couldn't prove that subliminal programming was real, so he didn't win. Trust me, it works.

  • @4eyed4stringer

Basically as people say to get rid of your fears, you must fight or face them..

Once you win against them, you will now always win over that fear and will never haunt you again.

  • @gruntunit2 Well said!

  • theres another frame with the face in it when father Carris tells father damien to complete the response while they are exorcising her. The bed is in the air and i believe it is descending to the ground. The face is not a still frame because it moves, but it is the same face. Its at 1:47:40. The tongue is sticking out to the side and the face is writhing. Its crazy looking! I wonder if they paid someone or if it is a frame from another movie. Creepy no matter what..lmao!

  • I agree with you now I am scared fucking shitless

  • It is not subliminal cause too long and even so what message would it be? Appart from the fact that as a human another human face with a bit of make-up can scare the shit out of you ...

  • @adlinn23 you would think so, but it worked on me. see my comment above .

  • yeah, kinda looks like lon chaney!

  • William Peter Blatty, the author of the novel and producer of the movie, is a former CIA operative who served as the policy-branch chief of the Psychological Warfare Division of the U.S. Air Force.

According to previously classified documents, the CIA tested subliminal manipulation in movie theaters during the late 1950-s.

  • That freakin face is the scariest part of the move

  • @jcgamer107 i agree it is hard to get scared by what is blatantly there something you are prepared for but things that just happen and look like they where placed there for a devious reason can lead one to madness. i found this reminiscent to the old trailers for saw when it just plated the puppet laughing or jigsaw appearing on screen and stating you are playing a game.

  • i want that as a tattoo

  • that face really scared me when watching the movie D:

  • The word "appears" in the previous comment DEFINES the fact that it is not subliminal. Subliminal: Below the threshold of conscious perception.

  • in "the version you've never seen" version the demon face appears in the kitchen

on the stove range when the lights are flickering on and off. I never noticed it before and was wondering if they george lucased it.

  • @geeter68 same here. i saw that too

  • @geeter68 Yeah, they did. They added it in for that version/re-release. Also added was the scene where Father Karras talks to Jabba about getting him his money. That wasn't in the original.

  • @jcgamer107 father karras shot first also I think

  • @geeter68 lol

  • @geeter68 it isn't JUST in that version, I'm pretty sure it's in a previous cut but I'm not 100%, because I watched it on TV and saw pazuzu on the stove top and i dont think it was TVYNS

  • @geeter68 Thanks for mentionning the kitchen one cause I was watching it with a friend and kept replaying the kitchen part to show him the face but there was nothin and he kind of think I was crazy

  • its fuckin 50's makeup shit? scarey tho. ill admit, cus i have the balls. but not that much obvisiously cus i got scared. wat a pussy.

  • It was meant to be there. It appears throughout the movie. It's just a genius directing idea.

  • It's not really meant to be subliminal. Those "death masks" appear throughout the movie in different places. The "Version You've Never Seen Before" makes even more use of them throughout the movie.

This particular scene is supposed to be a dream sequence where Father Merrin watches his mother descend into "hell" (the subway station), using that mask made sense there to help relay that idea.

  • @BODYSLAMwrestling "Death Mask" ?! It's the face of pazuzu, the demon that possessed regan..

  • i was watching this dream with my mum on our dvd and sound up all the way 12:00 in the night and all the ligths off and when the first flash came up i had my ears closed for the rest of the movie lolz

  • the real scare is when you pause at (0:32)

  • u retard! the movies scary itself! wow.... its called THE EXCORSIST, finding something scary in a scary movie is like finding math in math....

  • just wasted 1.00 minute of my life

  • there are lots of things like that in the film they're meant to be there!!!!

  • Purposely, those facesm and other creepy shadows were strewn randomly through the film. As a means to cause surprise, fear, and panick. Good try through. : )

  • I don't remember these parts of the movie, but people here are saying it's not subliminal 'cause you can see it, Noppers! I guess it's meant to be subliminal by putting it for a too short time

  • Oh my god he is right, you can see a guys house in the reflection and a guy is reading a newspaper on the couch to the right! clearly adertising! ...now to buy the latest daily mail.

  • It's not a subliminal message. It was put in the movie to scare people....this is nothing new to anyone who's seen the movie, most people see that unless they looked away at the part or something

  • I think this is arguably subliminal. I've watched the movie with lots of folks over the years, and until the face is pointed out to them, very few of them consciously perceive it. It's not until you freeze frame that most of them are then able to discern it at normal speed.

  • What's the message? EAT FRESH???

  • i clocked on to that when i watched it in normal speed at home, that aint subliminal

  • It is, its filled with "Subliminal"s. They flash pictures of scary things and play pigs squealing, it was a really sneaky movie. Its to heighten your fear and make you get into the movie, people have fainted and vomited etc. from this movies filming.

  • Forgetting about the silly debate regarding the true definition of "subliminal" - William Friedkin used these images with the intent that you weren't supposed to be able to focus on them clearly, rather you were supposed to get a "what the heck was that?!" creepy response. In that regard, they worked brilliantly. I can still remember the first time I saw this (on network TV back in the 70s). I was alone in the house and I caught that Captain Howdy face... Jeebus, but I was freaked!

  • many cadres with this face in film it was.....i soo then all

  • I remember hearing about this! The origional Exorcest had that through out the movie and they had to stop showing it because of the face. People were saying it was a subliminal message to get people to worship satan

  • @likeastarbaby

Ok mr. internet tough guy---since you absolutely know what's "scary," it should be easy for you to name a few movies that will scare us 40+ year old pussies shitless.

  • @Keepsu ummmm first of all, im a girl, as you probably could have easily guessed by my username?

and its getting more and more difficult to scare people because people are becoming immune to what once was terrifying. all i know is the exorcist was shit, and i was laughing the whole way through. i dunno if i missed the point or what, but it was just wtf, they went to far with it and it just got ridiculous.

  • @likeastarbaby

Nice backpedaling. What happened to the tough act? Did you realize how idiotic and immature it made you sound?

Now how about naming those scary movies I asked you about?

  • @Keepsu fucking idiot. that wasnt backpeddling,. i re-read my message about 6 times and i dont see what your seeing.

what i find scary is different to other people dumbass. im fuck scared of sharks so anything with sharks in scares me whereas others laugh. im just saying this film is the least scary shit ive ever seen, and everyone my age agrees with me. stop being such a whigney bitch just because i dont like the movie you like.

  • @likeastarbaby

Going from "the least scary shit ever" to "the least scary shit I've ever seen" is backpedaling---it's not my problem if you're too stupid to know the difference between objective and subjective claims.

  • @Keepsu omg LOLOL...sorry i thought i was having a conversation with a person, not an over analytical douchebag xD i didnt even realise i wrote that differently! hahaaaaaaaa okay sweetheart, you win, the exorcist is one of the best, oh wait no, THE BEST SCARY MOVIE OF ALL TIME. there is nothing scarier in existance today, and there NEVER will be. LOL! okay dude, im done, your just making me laugh now xD

  • @likeastarbaby

Typical juvenile response---all you got is "LOL."

    Pathetic.

  • @likeastarbaby are you 12? seriously answer. you type like a girl aswell.

if you are a girl - that's fine. but for fuck sake, stay in the kitchen!

  • @svehenen seriously answer? ...what does that mean? whats all the aggression about, i just said this movie is not scary in the slightest? in the context that i am not a dinosaur who would have found this scary 50 years ago? and shit for brains im obviously a girl (LIKE_A_STAR_BABY) and finally fuck off you sexist cunt.

  • yeah thats is pretty freaky

but like what Damzel666 i think it is far too long to be a subliminal message

  • it is the face of captain howdy. Its is on screen several times in the movie, but its on screen to long to really be subliminal...you always know that you have seen it

  • That face was seared into my subconscious at an early age. It now bothers me all the time when i close my eyes!

  • ME T00! 0MG When I closed my eyes, it would appear and I'd freak out.

  • i enjoy the exorcist very much. however, what do you people think about dodgeball.

  • this film is really SCARY and sinister!!!!

  • of course

  • The face is almost impossible to miss. It's in there for dramatic effect, it's not subliminal. The audience is clearly supposed to see it! Blatty, who wrote the book, said himself that the images are in the movie, but you can see them; it's not subliminal. All the controversy over these scenes is ridiculous - just paranoia.

  • that face looks oddly familiar... must have seen it somewhere else too

  • One of the scariest films I have ever watched!!!

  • Stupid fucking WMG :@ :@ :@ Dont they realise noone likes them.

  • That happens through out the movie. Actually they over did it to really be effective.

  • Yea I remember that in the movie. Whats real scary is the guy filming all of it in the TV, Watch real close,,,

  • This guy captain howdy scared me from the age of 7 all the way up to 14 : ( Now im 15.

  • I am sorry. I have dealt with too many assholes on Youtube recently and this has colored my attitude. You did not deserve to bear the brunt of my aggravation however, as you are clearly not of the asshole breed. My apologies.

p.s. "one bloody message" made me smile.

  • Incorrect, I remember seeing them. Perhaps not at such a slow speed, but perceptible nonetheless.

But I really do not care for an argument on this matter, as I really do not care about the subject matter.

So lets just say you are right. And please stop sending me messages.

  • That has been in the movie since the first release. Nothing new to me. What message are we to pick up watching this?

  • on 0:35 i sow you and your room

    hhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • In the original 1973, the picture is played only 1 frame per 21 frames of the film. 21 frames is one second of any film. For the 25th anniversary re-release, they made the picture 'show' on the screen. If you have an original VHS or Beta of the movie, the picture does not 'show', only if you slow the tape down and see frame, by frame, I still have my original tape recorded from HBO in the 80s and it was cool to find this hidden screen and I first read about it. There is also the word PIGS

  • Yes. The white demon face is what Regan calls, "Captain Howdy". It's there on purpose.

  • this was purposely put there in the re-release of the film...every1 knew about it its not subliminal

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I HATE THAT THING IT'S A FUCKER

  • that scared the bajeasus outta me!

  • If you look in the movie theres a lot of this in it

  • Lasts too long to be subliminal.

    Proof is in the pudding.

It is noticeable when played at normal speed.

Subliminal, by definition, means not immediately noticeable.

I see no reason for people being so rude on the comments however. Tiny minds resort to disparaging insult

  • @Richardatf subliminal doesn't mean not immediately noticeable, rather cannot be processed, consciously, by one's senses. Subliminal messages are supposed to pass by the conscious mind and seep directly into the subconscious.

  • ahaha :] My friends and I saw this when we were watching the movie at a party. Its funny~ :P

  • i saw the movie before a month,i saw it for first time and i didn't mention anything, you can see it clearly with the video running at normal speed

maybe it can be seen only on old crts with slow refresh rates or... i don't know...

does anybody knows the time that the dracula shows his face?

  • It's more foreshadowing than anything..

  • Looks like OBAMA ! HAHA !

  • argh, fuck that, lights on tonight

  • u see it while watching the movie u shit bricks

  • it happens frequently through all three films, its supposed to be a sign that the demon is nearby.

  • The face was put in the new addition of the movie. It's not in the original version.

  • I see you have thumbs down for this. I have read that SOME of the faces AND the demon statue, was added in the DVD, so some existed and some were added, so those who gave you thumbs down probably remember the few faces from the original...

  • No youre wrong, it was in the original movie.Besides , how would you know, you werent even born then, idiot.

  • You can still buy the original version you dumb fuck. Go look it up and when you find out that you're wrong I want you to suck my tiny dick.

  • It IS in the original.

  • Well, since this video is for discussion purposes only, for users to start a conversation. Then, you see, Mama Karras was standing there feeling rather abandoned. She was saying, "Teemy, why you do this to me"? "Why Teemy, why you do this to me"? She also felt her style was being cramped because there was a younger woman with a terrible headache, superimposed all over Mama Karras. Meanwhile, Fr. Karras was running as fast as he can because the day was done at the boy's school & he didn't want

  • to come strut'n by after they were all gone home already. After all, he had already invested quite a few bucks on a bunch of candy. However, the other character, "Count Chocula", was very upset about it. Before being wooed away by all the Karras candy, the school boys used to very much like getting mouthfuls of Count Chocula.

Despite having ran like a gay Grecian Olympian with adolescent choir boys on his mind, Fr. Karras was too late & found consolation in that he would later see Green Girl

  • :35 lol icu!!!

  • the white face mean damien Karras was gonna die, in this point of the movie the father;s mother dies, then he also dies later, on, so its like he follows her after she goes down (the steps) and he also dies falling down the steps

  • the subliminal message is not the face in the video it is the reflection of a kid filming it and an old bag reading the paper. look very closely at 36 seconds through the vid

  • This are not subliminal, they're there to scare watchers! They're throughout the whole film, even the new version contains more!

  • i think these lil scary faces things happened to slowly you can easily see them and they kinda ruin the mood of the movie,it'd have been much scarier without them.

  • do some research - this is not new, twat

  • This cut away to Captain Howdy is already pretty well known man. About 30 years late...

  • that was retarded i saw you taping it on the reflection on your tv how old are you like 8

  • DUDE when you pause at a certian point i can see you video taping this what are you like 10

  • nah, if you can see it, then it's not subliminal ^^

  • the point of subliminal is hat u cant see it but it forces a reaction with your brain that changes it. in the old coke ads they put subliminal messages to make people want coke but later it got banned

  • That is the demons that is possessing the girl, his captain howdy

  • Yah, he's the kid who posted the vid, and he fimed his TV in the daytime with LOTSA glare.

  • It is part of the movie and in many scenes

  • it is not subliminal, its in many scenes, the ine I remember the most is at the beginnign, when the electrical power fails this scary face shows up.

  • This was in the original version of the film. I was 13 years old and it scared the shit outta me then. But, who is the kid taking a picture in the living room, while the old man reads a newspsper ? Chilling !

  • The kid is the person who posted the vid, he is filming these scenes from his TV that has a LOT of glare.

  • this is real...an actual image found in the original exorcist, this one(crappy movie) and the most recent movie The exorcist: The beggining...

not very hard to notice and don't know wtf they mean but I think that it's part of the scary element

  • fiction

    not true

i think its a load of bullcrap

  • it looks like lon cheney in make up...

  • Geeze you guys dont talk shit, thats rude he was just trying to start conversation.

  • shit dude, i´ve watched the film, but i don´t remember that this part shows a face.

    scary.

  • This was the directors cut

  • youtube you can go to hell you facist fucks!

  • that face is on the whole movie, it suposse to be the devil, it's not subliminal

  • Post it again! They took the audio out!!!

  • I see the subliminal message too.

Don't point a camera at the TV when your fat balding dad is sat in the armchair reading the paper without any clothes on....

  • laffing my ass off, is he just wearing his boxers?

  • LOL!!

  • yea and if you stare at it for a long time, it looks like michael jackson on drugs XD

  • You say don't tell you it isn't subliminal but it ISN'T subliminal! Like a previous poster stated, you can see it clearly. The fright is it happens quick, it's totally unexpected and damn ugly/scary. But it is not subliminal.

And it's also very old news!

  • can youtube please allow us access to audio?

  • I always thought that was meant to be there :\ It scared the fuck out of me last time I watched it

  • It's not a subliminal message because it appeals to the concious mind, not the unconcious. You can see it clearly.
