the sound of 303 is pure shit.

the cheapest and most annoying sound ever. A real pain for the ears. And the way it is used 99% of the times (= with a huge amount of resonance), is to mask its incredibly strong limits (incredibly strong for anything that claims to be called a sinthehesizer). Since it can't do much else.Almost all other synths have more control and possibilities and less annoying sounds.TB-303 is a toy turned into a fraud by bored collectors who bought it for peanuts 20 years ago

@donpirla As someone who has used other "sinthehesizers" that you would consider much more capable (such as a modular Moog, a Novation A-Station, MicroKorg, Roland Juno 6, etc. etc.), I would have to say that you aren't quite right in your assessment of the TB-303. Sure, it can't do what other synths do, but that's not what the folks using them intended them for. The reason these got so popular was because of their unique sound, their lack of control. Constraints breed creativity, my friend.

Very cool! I had a tr606 back in . . . 83? 84? I forget. At the time, they were considered to be junk - no kidding! You couldn't give one away. What is unbelievable with the TB is, it was released in the 80's, and, already in the 90's it became so overhyped that prices exploded....

But now, sorry, when I see 20 year old kids paying one grand and a half (or two grands !) for this toy, I don't know if I must laugh or cry...

You saw all of the inspiration spawned from such this simple monophonic synthesizer with an otherworldly sound- you witnessed the history. The TB-303 STILL does not get used to its fullest potential by most of its owners. There are so many sonic dimensions yet to be explored with effects. The 303's raw audio is a blank canvas.
