and go look up santa claus vs god on google images, you gave me the perfect answer to your idiotic rational..........santa clause is man made, a steriotype, image and idol where god is none of the above
god isnt a man, better understood as an idea bc that is the only complete comparison wwe can make. some thing that has existence but doesnt appeal to any of the 5 senses and can still carry weight of value. that is in sense what any deity is, and if we are talking about something, what ever that force is, that is powerful enough to make a universe, wouldnt he also be able to listen to "visit all the people in the world" at the same time? doesnt seem too outrageous
@DaYosh04 Hmmm. He did make "men" in his image....would that not mean that god is man or man like? Just saying either way it does sound ridiculous if you think about it.
now tht being said, the ''standards of the west''/??? referring to what? christianity? morals? bc last time i checked, both were originated from long standing EASTERN civilizations, so i hope that wasnt what you were talking about. so far, it looks as if your just trying to come up with any excuse you can to disprove God, but you overlook the obvious to do so. man will run to darkness, and come up with any excuse to bath in its misery......
PEWP89, your naive and ignorant, as in you refuse knowledge that is made evident to you and you think its every one else's fault for your short comings.
If you believe in god you should know he wouldnt need his pesents defending him. her. it. the best thing you could do for your god and others is keep it to and for yourself. because you have a weak immune system and are trying to infect others. your so delusional that the ones you most infect and disease are children. i hate manipulitive people. especially those that prey on innocent kids who are lied to from the first sign of understanding. fuck this topic is rediculous at this point in life.
see but what you are saying means nothing to me... you are not making any valid points you are just saying what you believe. a Muslim who has never heard of the laws of the west?? wtf is that? the Bible says that all sins are equal whether its a small lie or its murdering babies you just need to confess and pray and its all good right?? i was raised Christian (unfortunately) and went to a christian school for 10 years so i probably kno more than u do.. you dont need to explain that shit to me
lol WHAT? you really believe in the story of creation? and in noah's ark? how about the one part where the guys donkey talks to him? you believe in heaven and hell? Gandhi was not a Christian do you believe he is burning in hell right now? do people in the world who were never exposed to the bible or jesus burn in hell? its a terrible way to think
@pewp89 Yes to all you asked. And if Gandhi died without Messiah, he most certainly will face God's wrath for his sins. As to those that never heard, their conscience bears witness to them as to what is sins and what is not. But i'll play your game. If a 20 year old Muslim that has never heard of the laws of the west goes into an open marketplace with an assault rifle and kills and maims 27 people - men, women, and even babies - is he liable to be judged by western standards?
@shopper292 God will hold all of us accountable, and He will execute His wrath against sin. And despite the fact that He did not need to do any different, out of a love for us, He actually came and provided in Himself the payment due for our sins. Further, He offers it to us as a free gift. If we reject it, then we will stand before Him covered in our sins, and He will execute the punishment due us, against us.
@pewp89 after all pew, he believed what he was doing was right. How could he be judged for that? And many of the Nazi soldiers in WW2 when tried claimed innocence, protesting that they were merely following orders of their superiors. How could they be held accountable? I'll tell you how, in both cases. Because there is a higher, God given law, that is the standard by which these things are judged. So are the sins you, I, and everyone else commit! God will judge the sins of sinners

Bill Maher will not be an atheist after death; neither will anyone else. All will believe in God from the moment they die, through the rest of eternity. Short of an act of God, Bill Maher will awake to abject horror, followed sometime in the future by the judgment of God, and then ending in a place even worse than the first, where he will remain alone, in unfathomable suffering and torment, forever. So will all who reject the forgiveness of God found in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ
@shopper292 No one will be neither atheist, christian or jewish or w/e. We will be dead, end of story. Now, what happends after the death NO ONE can claim to know. Cause no one have been dead and suddenly got back and been like "Yeh I was chilli'n with jesus in the sky eating icecream!". When we die we will all "find out" whats true. Or not, we might simply die. End of story, no fancy reincarnation and no paradise waiting for us. No one knows for sure and its simply up to each person to think
@pepparmostheelder actually, we do know what will happen after death; the Bible is quite clear about it. What i said above is absolutely correct. Sagan, Darwin, Huxley, O'Hair, and multitudes of other atheists are atheists no more. They all quite believe in God, and they also quite believe that hell is a very real place. So it will be for all who reject the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Death is not the end; only, an end of one step, but the beginning of a much longer step.
@shopper292 I wont even discuss this with you since you are obviously blinded by christianity and such refuse to believe you might be wrong, cause if you were your whole life and religious belief would be wrong. You dont know that Darwin is no longer and atheist, hell, you dont even know if he CAN have a belief now. I mean, the bible is no more true to a none christian person then, lets say lord of the rings is true. In the end, we will all just have to wait and see. Claim otherwise and you lie
@pepparmostheelder The Bible has given us all that it necessary to validate that it is the word of God. What i've told you is absolutely true. My hope and prayer is that you will realize that, while there is time...
Jesus loves you friend. He gave His life for you! It is the single greatest message, you will ever hear!
@pepparmostheelder i am a scientist friend; i seek to know what is true, and when i discover what i know to true, i accept it for what it is; the truth. For me to deny what scripture is, who Jesus is, and what Jesus made available for me and for all who would accept His sacrificial gift, would be the height of idiocy! To willfully deny what is absolutely true because one doesn't like what the truth conveys is both the height of arrogance, and the ultimate extension of lunacy!
@shopper292 You are a piss poor scientist if so. God sacrificed himself to himself. He is all "perfect" and created us from his own image, and yet, we are piss poorly constructed. And honestly, if there is a god and he happends to be the christian version, then I really dont think I want to go to haven. Not if I would have to end up with all the imoral nutjob - pedofiles and murderers from the bible who apperently did gods will
@pepparmostheelder actually, we are quite remarkably constructed! The tiniest units of our being are more complex than anything that has ever been designed by man...by a long shot! As for God's sacrifice, He sacrificed Himself for you, me, and everyone else, because all of us are facing judgment for our sins, with no hope of escape. He provided that escape. There will be many who have committed every sort of sin that exists, who will be forgiven their sins, because of a broken and...
@shopper292 Well if you actually think we are well constructed it just proves how bad you are at genetics and genetic engineering. I will "open" my heart to this spacedaddy when I see some actuall evidence that he exists. Untill then god is no more true to me then Oden, Apollo, Ra or Allah is.
@pepparmostheelder ...contrite heart, that is ready and sincere in seeking God's forgiveness for their sins. And there will be multitudes more, proud and arrogant, who thought they were just fine the way they were, and better than most they knew, who will face the condemnation and wrath of a just God, because they refused the consummate offer of all eternity; a forgiveness they neither deserved, nor earned. Thus, they will get what they did earn. Open your heart friend, while there is time
@shopper292 just because the Bible says something doesnt make it true. God didn't write the bible, people did. also Darwin was actually the opposit he wanted to be a clergyman and ended up becoming agnostic, Sagan was always agnostic and never "quite believed in God", Huxley was a Vedantist so he didnt quite believe in God, O' Hair was the head of American Atheists until she was murdered?? i dont know where you are getting this garbage info.
@pewp89 Just because the Bible says something does make it true, because the Bible is the word of God. He did write it friend, penned by God's inspiration to those holding the writing instrument. All whom you refer to now know just how wrong they were. They are now, and forever will be, quite conscious, and quite conscious of the terrible suffering they are going through each and every second, of forever. Jesus gave His life so that you wouldn't have to do the same. Open your heart friend..
@pepparmostheelder actually, we can know for sure, and there are many who do know what will happen after we die. In adition, sagan, ohair, darwin, huxley, et all are now fully God believers, but too late to do them any good. If you choose to ignore God and the incredible offer He made to forgive you for your sins and certain and deserved judgment for them, then you too will be one of a long list of former atheists who became God believers, too late. Open your heart friend, while there is time
@shopper292 Once again if that is what you want to think then by all means I wont try to change your view. But no, you cant know, you can pretend to know which you obviously are but in the end, you just cant. And what people seem to fail to see is that atheists and agnostics dont DENY god, we just dont see a fairy-tale book written by normal men, 2000 years ago. I would have no problem believing if I just saw proof. If there is a god I think he dont want people to blindly follow.
God is not a man. He is not limited in a body of flesh but fills the entire universe, nor is He limited to time like we are. A good analogy is reading a book. A person can read a books, put it down and read it again in 6 months, or they can start at the beginning again or go straight to the end. This is a good way to describe to someone who doesn't understand how God can work.
I got this from C.S. Lewis book "Mere Christianity"
I like this man very much. He isn't trying to tell people that their religion is stupid or false; he is just presenting them with what seem to be fairly obvious flaws in their thinking and forcing them to question things.
Bill Maher only interviews certain religous idiots that don't know what their talking about. He doesn't interview 1 single person who knows anything about religion or the Bible. This entire movie is absolutely bias and just flat out idiotic.
Bill Maher only interviews certain religous idiots that don't know what their talking about. He doesn't interview 1 single person who knows anything about religion or the Bible. This entire movie is absolutely bias and just flat out idiotic.
... inability to answer, which seems to belie some form of humorous stupidity...comparing the relative merits of believing in God and Santa Claus is really only funny if you can't be bothered to turn your brain on
I'm not religious and comments like 'science is stupid and overrated' make little sense really...on the other hand, I'm pretty sure the majority of modern religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc) don't consider God to be a corporeal being that you could really compare with Santa Claus...
Like I said I'm not religious, and I'm all for politically incorrect humour and such - it just seems to me that the funny thing about this clip is not Maher's actual comment but rather the other guy's inab
science is stupid and overrated. how can we grow out of a soup and slowly becomes people in millions of years. God created us in an instance. its not genetics that makes me look like my parents, i just do because God created me that way. God should have made me black so i have great athletic skills. my disabled retarded brother is just a cruel joke God made to come out of my mother and to bless our family with.
What is more funny is that the gasses to create the big bang came from.....? Wait... where did the gasses to create the big bang come from?
Is the big bang theory going against EVERYTHING athiest brainwashing science has been telling us? Some people argue the Universe has been here forever but again its a scientific fact all materialistic things have a begining and come to end, its so ridiculos.... Athiesm pfftttt!!!
@lSaif You're wrong. Gases to create the big bang? The Big Bang is nothing more than the model explaining the rapid expansion of space itself 14 Billion years ago.(which is still expanding to this day) In 1929, Edwin Hubble proved that all galaxies are speeding away from each other by measuring their redshift. This meant that they must have been closer together in the past...Do the calculations, and you can extrapolate back through time and determine that all space and matter expanded from(cont)
@lSaif a single point 14 billion years ago. Due to the stupendous amount of heat from of all this matter/energy being so close, atomic nuclei wouldn't even be possible. No atoms. From what we know about particle physics and quantum physics, seconds after the expansion began, the immense temperature would not have allowed anything but electrons, photons, and baryons. Atomic nuclei would not have formed until the Universe expanded and cooled enough to allow nuclei to condense. (cont)
@lSaif From Einstein's genius, we know that matter can be turned into energy, and energy to matter. The latter is what happened shortly after the big bang, leaving immense clouds of Hydrogen and Helium (the simplest elements...This is why they are the most abundant in the Universe today) Because of the laws of gravity, clumps of hydrogen would have attracted more hydrogen, eventually collapsing, and with high enough temperatures, nuclear fusion began. The first stars were born. (cont)
@lSaif Because we know that stars take light, simple atoms such as Hydrogen and fuse them into heavier elements, Helium, Oxygen, all the way up to Iron, this is where the rest of the heavier elements come from. Google Stellar Nucleosynthesis. When a massive star spends all of it's lighter nuclei, the star explodes, spewing all of the heavy elements from it's core into interstellar space to later coalesce into the next generation of stars, planets, etc. (cont)
@lSaif The Big Bang was verified even more so with the data from the COBE satellite and in even finer detail by the WMAP satellite. All data ever gathered about the universe supports the expansion model. Just because you cannot seem to do the research or attempt to understand it doesn't make it not true. You're talking out your ignorant ass.
@lSaif Gases were not required for the Big Bang to occur...As any cosmologist will tell you, matter did not exist at the point. Gas is matter. E=mc^2. It was incredibly dense, hot energy. No gas. Space itself did not even exist. If you're trying to discredit cosmic inflation by demanding there be some kind of gas present, good luck with that. I'm not trying to be an ass, but your argument is fundamentally flawed.
@lSaif I need to stress that the Big Bang is a theory, not an unfounded hypothesis. A scientific theory is a model of explanation for observed or measured facts. If you do some googling, there are tons of places to find out what the theory actually states, the observations, and the evidence and math to back it up. Good luck!
@hondadrvr3 Look at it logically, there has to be something there for there to be something else, there has to be something created for the big bang to occur, there had to be something there (A God, just consider the idea for the sake of the argument) to create E=mc^2 because NOTHING appears out of anything.
If I am in a room without any particle, gas, heat, light, energy etc just nothing then nothing will be made out of it no matter how many trillions of years I wait.
@lSaif No one ever said there was "nothing" before the Big Bang occurred. You're not researching. You're making false assumptions and false claims. All of the entirety of the cosmos was compressed into a singularity. No one said "nothing" was there. That the Big Bang occurred is observable, scientific fact. What happened before, or what process instigated this expansion is unknown. But by labeling what we don't yet know as "God" is intellectually dishonest.
@hondadrvr3 Your not getting it, never mind the big bang what was there before anything to create the Universe? It is a question that cannot be answered simple as that because God was there.
@lSaif No, you're not getting it. You're asserting the notion of a God being there without evidence. Science is backed by evidence. Scientists have no problem in admitting not knowing what occurred before the Universe as we know it today. But, unlike them, when faced with the currently unknown, you have to put the label "God" on it. What happened before the Big Bang is in the realm of quantum physics, not religion. Asserting that it was "God" without having evidence is absurd logic.
@lSaif If you study history, you'll find that anything that was unexplainable at the time was labeled "God." As science finds out more and more, truths are revealed and old beliefs are thrown away.Humans once thought a God or Gods controlled natural events; lightning, earthquakes, the stars, life, death etc. Anytime science makes progress, religious folk seem to label what is unexplainable at the time as "God". It's intellectual dishonesty and hinders progress in our understanding of real truth.
@hondadrvr3 Your still avoiding my question, re-read by previous comment. But to answer this comment God (In the Qu'ran) does talk about science being part of his creation.
For example in the QU'ran it talks about man being able to enter space with powerful tools (Space shuttles), all forms of life being made from water (Our bodies are 80% water), it talks abouts the sperm when it meets the female egg turns into a shape of a leech (Fetus) and much much more (Not enough characters).
@lSaif The Quran also says "Created man, out of a clot of congealed blood (96:2)"--Referring to menstrual blood. This was before anyone had any notion of a female egg; common thought was that period blood played a role in conception. This is flat-out wrong. The Quran and the Bible both are filled with allegory, parables, and vague statements that any religious apologist will completely stretch and distort the meaning of to fit modern-day scientific findings in order to try to justify their faith.
@lSaif You need to inspect your beliefs from a perspective outside of religious thought and research more information besides what's in the Quran and Quran apologetics. I have no ill will towards you and I wish you luck on your quest for knowledge!
@lSaif Even if all that vague shit in the Quran actually meant that, big fucking deal. Why doesn't the Quran talk about E=MC squared? What about Quantum Mechanics? Anything on post-secondary physics? Anything on post-secondary Chemistry? Too much? What about fossils or carbon or half-life? What kind of dumbass God reveals low-end scientific feats and then claims a scientifically perfect book? The myrmidons who actually believe it are even stupider
Yahweh has billions of angels and billions of children in the earth, so when people pray to him the guardian angels can do the footwork. Yahweh isn't broken into a gazillion different pieces, so his physical being can only be at one place at one time, just as an angel or a person. His power if everywhere, but He can only be at one place at one time. Use common sense Bill LOL
Maher is naive. He couldn't hold in his own if he had spoken with people even remotely capable of defending the faith.
"One man hearing everyone murmur to him at the same time..."
God isn't a man. He was around before mankind, according to traditional belief. So congratulations, Maher, on showing your own idiocy with the biggest straw man ever.
@Jugglable But those people he talks to make up most people in the world. It's more relevant for him to talk to idiots who can't even explain what they believe in than to some theologian. Either way, you have no basis for your claim. So he said "man", congratulations for blowing it out of proportion.
@zofspade "But those people he talks to make up most people in the world."
They aren't representative of all religion. The movie should have been called "Fundamentaligous" instead of "Religulous."
"Either way, you have no basis for your claim."
What, so Maher *is* knowledgable about religion? There are a couple, just a couple, smart people he talked to in the movie, and what they said went right over his head.
@Jugglable "They aren't representative of all religion. "
Actually they are because idiots make up the majority of religion just as idiots make up the majority of the wold. He talks to several people who say they have the "right" way to interpret these Bronze Age text but they ignore that most people don't share their views.
I don't remember anyone going over his head. We must have watched different movies. Getting a few details wrong isn't the same as being wrong.
@zofspade "idiots make up the majority of the wold."
Never mind the irony of you misspelling the word "world" in that sentence. An idiot is of below average intelligence, so it doesn't make sense to talk about most people being idiots.
As far as over his head, look at his interview with George Coyne.
@sikapena lol, what does this have to do with logic? Its simple, why couldn't God hear all men? He's relating santa claus to God... it makes no sense.
@MrHappiness777 I've had a revelation. Some weird guy popped up and told me that god doesn't exist. btw, I characterize god as "it" because people who believes in it told me that it's not a man.
why would that be embarrassing? i would be more embarrassed of my dad didnt even know that G-D is not a man and then making a massive movie with the main premise being that G-D is a man even though it isn't claimed that he is.
you are embarrassed? do you know that if life was just a series of chances, the chance of you feeling embarrassed right now is approximately 10 to the power of 23 trillion (or something like that). the chances of winning a 1/14million lottery are too small to believe you could win but you believe in something with a statistical probability of 10 to the power of 23 trillion? now i'm embarrassed :)
You should be embarrassed... to have made a ridiculous statement like the one you just did... you're out there and i fear for your friends and family!
owned? are you not aware of the concept of editing? how do you know that guy didnt give an incredible response? maher entire point is based on the creator being a man. but the creator of space must not be bound by space and so his entire point is mooted when understanding the definition of G-D
Your stupidity caused me to put my head down on my keyboard for 12-15 seconds and wonder what type of morons your parents must be for raising someone as retarded as you.
well you know what you think the big bang created this world? i dont disspute that. from c couple of floating gasss rite? who put them there how did it get there?nothing comes out of nothing its imposible. the universe how did that get here?
did it come out of a black hole? who put the black whole there? did the universe create itself? does it think for itself?
See the problem with religion is that it was made in a time of ignorance when a deity was the best answer we had. We now know what makes the sun go up and down, we know that bacteria cause sickness...not sin, we now know what dreams are made of-and it certainly is not anything divine, we now know what is above the sky is an atmosphere and not some heaven.
We know matter can neither be created nor destroyed, but who says it couldn't have just been here?
well you say its not created but how can matter not be created doest that go against the basic laws of nature and science not to mention any kind of sense?
I see you don't even have a basic understanding of science. This is a perfect example of why people of "faith" are laughed at. You try to dispute things without having even a basic understanding of it.
Look up the law of conservation of mass/matter.
Don't feel bad about making yourself look stupid right there. I wouldn't have expected anything else.
The only people in the debate who thing something comes from nothing are the believers.
Science never has and never will claim that. Science will also never claim to know that which it doesn't. An arrogance claimed exclusively by believers.
it doesn't make sense, i don't believe that everything created itself from floating gasses without a creator, the world is far 2 complex to fit that statement.
You're not making the connection because you haven't done enough research. If you learn all that happened between the "floating gasses" and the evolution of life it will make more sense. Put down the book written by bronze age farmers and totalitarian rulers and pickup the books of the learned scholars. You will see it all come into perspective the more you learn. Richard Dawkins has a new book called "the greatest show on earth" that explains all the missing pieces.
I PUT IT ALL THERE, I am the All mighty God, who created the heaven and earth and since i am all mighty i created earth in 6 days but shit i was tired so i took a day off on the 7th day! I created day and night before the sun cause i didn't really think you guys would figure out that the light came from the sun! and I thought adam would be fine talking to the animals so i didn't create woman until much later. Adore me and praise me because I love the attention!
if you are saying that arguing against a christian, fine. if you are saying that as arguing against a jew, i would ask you what is the jewish understanding of G-D resting on the 7th, writing the torah in that order, and creating woman after man? in judaism, G-D does things for more than just practicality, he does things that go against practicality for the sake of teaching (plants-animals-man-woman)
is that what God Told you? did you hear it from his mouth... my guess is no.... Its amazing to me how you guys read something and then make all kinds of speculations and guesses and talk on God's behalf and explain what God thinks and why he does the things he does as if you speak to him. I can understand what you mean and if i were a moron i would buy it but no one knows for sure so i'm gonna say... NO DEAL!
so....what does gravity look like? have you ever seen it? no. do you have a phd in nuclear physics? no. yet you blindly believe that gravity exists even though you have never seen it purely on the basis that you are being told it does exist. i think a special word comes to mind.....hypocrite!
i only interpret the scriptures. i never claim to know G-D. i know what torah says about G-D. for example, hebrew scriptures explain why G-D created eve after adam. so as a jew..........
.............i simply say "judaisms understanding of why G-D created adam before eve is X". i claim that the jewish people have the "most" correct understanding of G-D but never claim to know him fully. you however make an outright claim about G-D without ever fully studying the text that talks about the issue you are commenting on.
HAHAHA.... I should have known you would play the gravity/air/love/hate etc CARD....
are you really that stupid... gravity has been proven... its what holds us down... the law applies to us all... if you jump off a building your precious Ya-guey! won't save you... do you now know why a helium balloon goes up into the air? probably not...
what's there to study... if the first chapter makes no sense.... why would you try to make sense of the one's following...
you only see the effects of gravity but not gravity itself. i should have known you would play the apple falling card. i could equally say that i see the effects of G-D just like you see the effects of gravity but neither of us have actually seen either gravity or G-D.
yes i know why helium rises. was that an attempt to suggest that religious people are dumb? dont forget what group of people you are debating right now. if there is one accusation never made to my people it is dumb or ignorant.
it was you that made that assumption... i simply wanted you to find the answer on your own and i didn't want to put any ideas in your head... so you know the reason why a ballon filled with helium can defy this law of gravity? and this law of gravity has been tested many times... and it isn't just a theory... its a known fact isn't it?
I'm sure you can make these pictures in your head and make sense of what i'm telling you... that arguement will get you no where... God... cannot be proven.
no but you believe it exists dont you? you believe something exists without ever seeing it and basing your belief in its existence on someone you have never met. the fact that it is not G-D is just a red herring as the argument is about reasons to believe in something that are logical.
right i believe it exists... and i think its interesting... and the tests they've done are all interesting and so i don't go door to door preaching gravity and telling everyone that they better believe in gravity or they'll fly right up into the sky out of hemisphere and pulled towards sun and burn for all eternity.
i dont believe in budda because if it could be proven that buddha made the claims of revelation, there would be no reason to believe it because you cannot test it...it's just one person claiming to have spoken to G-D. however, in judaism it is very different. the claim is 3million people claiming to witness it and through 3 millenia, it never changed from 10-13 plagues etc. in other words, national credibility. go to court with a one witness and who cares? go to court with 3million witnesses...
don't be foolish... do you even know the story behind Buddha? he never claimed to speak to god... even Krishna.... they both said that we are all devine creatures and taught people about conscious awareness... Krishna, was a prince... who gave up his life of royalty to seek self awareness... they never claimed super human powers. or healing... they taught people how to heal themselves through meditation... you can call it prayer but people don't pray TO BUDDHA... they learn from Buddha...
again... he doesn't claim God in any form... doesn't say he exists or deny his existance... so the argument is pointless... why don't you believe in Zeus? or Santa? the Chupacabras? Aliens?
that's a good one... plenty of people have claimed to have witnessed UFOs and many have witnessed the same UFO miles away from each other... so what is your opinion on them?
I believe in the Liger! he protects us from the giant squid.... so i go door to door to spread the word about the Liger and why he is the one and true God...
it's a ridiculous analogy. it would only make sense if we claimed that G-D was a man. seeing as G-D is the cause of space, he MUST BE omnipresent so maher clearly doesn't know the first thing about what we say G-D is.
what part of my comments on this page were gentile hating? what part of the talmud is gentile hating? i am sure you have been reading some messed up stuff about the talmud but it take decades to become even slightly adept at talmud so i doubt you know it's opinions about non jews. let me make it short....we love you, you are equal to us. is that more compatible with the fact that in judaism, we all have the same father (adam)???? i got three thumbs down for explaining that G-D is not a man.
that is such an ignorant statement about judaism. judaism doesnt believe that people are judged based on what they believe. judaism says deed over creed. having a belief doesnt mean that i hate people with other beliefs. if anything it is you who is speaking hate to people with different beliefs. be a christian, atheist, muslim whatever...just be a good person. this is what judaism teaches. i was simply voicing my view and the response i get is pure hate and thus hypocricy. dont hate, appreciate
maher fooled himself. he compared a material and finite man to an infinite being. he claimed that a man hears us all murmer to him except G-D is not a man, nor is he finite. the joke is on you maher
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It IS impossible for one man to fly around the world in one night, God is not a man, God is a divine omniscient force. Maher needs to do some homework. A rather pathetic example of bait and switch, ambush journalism. I expect the usual liberal sheep will love this as much as the love Al "save the polar bears" Gore's climate hoax.
So are you saying Santa Clause ISN'T a divine omniscient force? If he isn't whats your proof? I like how to guys split hairs to come up with some bogus explanation.
If God isn't human
-why do you guys always refer to him as Him? I'm pretty sure he doesn't have XY chromosomes. I'll tell you why. Because most monotheistic religions were created in male driven societies.
-why are he made in God' image? I'll tell you why. Because we created him. Pretty fucking convenient huh?
Your invisible superman is a myth. If it is a force then call it energy or quantum but dont call it God since the definition for God goes something like this. Old white bearded superhuman like invisible man living in the sky who is all knowledeable and all powerful yet unwilling to prove himself because he is too busy having fun killing people and causing 2 million natural miscarieges (natual abortions) while he is sending people to hell for using their logic.
we say "him" because it is the easiest way for our little brains to comprehend it. technically G-D is neither male nor female but because we are relatively dumb, we need a word to use so we say "him". you want proof that G-D exists? you cant even prove that maher exists.
You can't ever prove whether God exists or not. That's what belief and having faith is all about. And it doesn't excuse how silly the idea is anyway; the grown-up version of a childs imaginary friend.
For instance I could say a tiny teapot orbits the Sun at exactly the opposite course Earth does. We could never prove its there one way or the other, but I'm sure most of us can dismiss it rather quickly for how silly the idea and impossible is. Probability is very important ^_^

god isnt a man, better understood as an idea bc that is the only complete comparison wwe can make. some thing that has existence but doesnt appeal to any of the 5 senses and can still carry weight of value. that is in sense what any deity is, and if we are talking about something, what ever that force is, that is powerful enough to make a universe, wouldnt he also be able to listen to "visit all the people in the world" at the same time? doesnt seem too outrageous
DaYosh04 4 months ago
@DaYosh04 Hmmm. He did make "men" in his image....would that not mean that god is man or man like? Just saying either way it does sound ridiculous if you think about it.

lol WHAT? you really believe in the story of creation? and in noah's ark? how about the one part where the guys donkey talks to him? you believe in heaven and hell? Gandhi was not a Christian do you believe he is burning in hell right now? do people in the world who were never exposed to the bible or jesus burn in hell? its a terrible way to think
pewp89 5 months ago
@pewp89 Yes to all you asked. And if Gandhi died without Messiah, he most certainly will face God's wrath for his sins. As to those that never heard, their conscience bears witness to them as to what is sins and what is not. But i'll play your game. If a 20 year old Muslim that has never heard of the laws of the west goes into an open marketplace with an assault rifle and kills and maims 27 people - men, women, and even babies - is he liable to be judged by western standards?
shopper292 5 months ago
@shopper292 God will hold all of us accountable, and He will execute His wrath against sin. And despite the fact that He did not need to do any different, out of a love for us, He actually came and provided in Himself the payment due for our sins. Further, He offers it to us as a free gift. If we reject it, then we will stand before Him covered in our sins, and He will execute the punishment due us, against us.
shopper292 5 months ago

So will all who reject the forgiveness of God found in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ
shopper292 7 months ago
@shopper292 No one will be neither atheist, christian or jewish or w/e. We will be dead, end of story. Now, what happends after the death NO ONE can claim to know. Cause no one have been dead and suddenly got back and been like "Yeh I was chilli'n with jesus in the sky eating icecream!". When we die we will all "find out" whats true. Or not, we might simply die. End of story, no fancy reincarnation and no paradise waiting for us. No one knows for sure and its simply up to each person to think
pepparmostheelder 6 months ago
@pepparmostheelder actually, we do know what will happen after death; the Bible is quite clear about it. What i said above is absolutely correct. Sagan, Darwin, Huxley, O'Hair, and multitudes of other atheists are atheists no more. They all quite believe in God, and they also quite believe that hell is a very real place. So it will be for all who reject the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Death is not the end; only, an end of one step, but the beginning of a much longer step.
shopper292 6 months ago

To willfully deny what is absolutely true because one doesn't like what the truth conveys is both the height of arrogance, and the ultimate extension of lunacy!
shopper292 5 months ago
@shopper292 You are a piss poor scientist if so. God sacrificed himself to himself. He is all "perfect" and created us from his own image, and yet, we are piss poorly constructed. And honestly, if there is a god and he happends to be the christian version, then I really dont think I want to go to haven. Not if I would have to end up with all the imoral nutjob - pedofiles and murderers from the bible who apperently did gods will
pepparmostheelder 5 months ago
@pepparmostheelder actually, we are quite remarkably constructed! The tiniest units of our being are more complex than anything that has ever been designed by man...by a long shot! As for God's sacrifice, He sacrificed Himself for you, me, and everyone else, because all of us are facing judgment for our sins, with no hope of escape. He provided that escape. There will be many who have committed every sort of sin that exists, who will be forgiven their sins, because of a broken and...
shopper292 5 months ago
@shopper292 Well if you actually think we are well constructed it just proves how bad you are at genetics and genetic engineering. I will "open" my heart to this spacedaddy when I see some actuall evidence that he exists. Untill then god is no more true to me then Oden, Apollo, Ra or Allah is.
pepparmostheelder 5 months ago
@pepparmostheelder ...contrite heart, that is ready and sincere in seeking God's forgiveness for their sins. And there will be multitudes more, proud and arrogant, who thought they were just fine the way they were, and better than most they knew, who will face the condemnation and wrath of a just God, because they refused the consummate offer of all eternity; a forgiveness they neither deserved, nor earned. Thus, they will get what they did earn. Open your heart friend, while there is time
shopper292 5 months ago
@shopper292 just because the Bible says something doesnt make it true. God didn't write the bible, people did. also Darwin was actually the opposit he wanted to be a clergyman and ended up becoming agnostic, Sagan was always agnostic and never "quite believed in God", Huxley was a Vedantist so he didnt quite believe in God, O' Hair was the head of American Atheists until she was murdered?? i dont know where you are getting this garbage info.
pewp89 5 months ago
@pewp89 Just because the Bible says something does make it true, because the Bible is the word of God. He did write it friend, penned by God's inspiration to those holding the writing instrument. All whom you refer to now know just how wrong they were. They are now, and forever will be, quite conscious, and quite conscious of the terrible suffering they are going through each and every second, of forever. Jesus gave His life so that you wouldn't have to do the same. Open your heart friend..
shopper292 5 months ago
@pepparmostheelder actually, we can know for sure, and there are many who do know what will happen after we die. In adition, sagan, ohair, darwin, huxley, et all are now fully God believers, but too late to do them any good. If you choose to ignore God and the incredible offer He made to forgive you for your sins and certain and deserved judgment for them, then you too will be one of a long list of former atheists who became God believers, too late. Open your heart friend, while there is time
shopper292 5 months ago
@shopper292 Once again if that is what you want to think then by all means I wont try to change your view. But no, you cant know, you can pretend to know which you obviously are but in the end, you just cant. And what people seem to fail to see is that atheists and agnostics dont DENY god, we just dont see a fairy-tale book written by normal men, 2000 years ago. I would have no problem believing if I just saw proof. If there is a god I think he dont want people to blindly follow.
pepparmostheelder 5 months ago
God is not a man. He is not limited in a body of flesh but fills the entire universe, nor is He limited to time like we are. A good analogy is reading a book. A person can read a books, put it down and read it again in 6 months, or they can start at the beginning again or go straight to the end. This is a good way to describe to someone who doesn't understand how God can work.
I got this from C.S. Lewis book "Mere Christianity"

Athiesm pfftttt!!!
lSaif 11 months ago
@lSaif You're wrong. Gases to create the big bang? The Big Bang is nothing more than the model explaining the rapid expansion of space itself 14 Billion years ago.(which is still expanding to this day) In 1929, Edwin Hubble proved that all galaxies are speeding away from each other by measuring their redshift. This meant that they must have been closer together in the past...Do the calculations, and you can extrapolate back through time and determine that all space and matter expanded from(cont)
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@lSaif a single point 14 billion years ago. Due to the stupendous amount of heat from of all this matter/energy being so close, atomic nuclei wouldn't even be possible. No atoms. From what we know about particle physics and quantum physics, seconds after the expansion began, the immense temperature would not have allowed anything but electrons, photons, and baryons. Atomic nuclei would not have formed until the Universe expanded and cooled enough to allow nuclei to condense. (cont)
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@lSaif From Einstein's genius, we know that matter can be turned into energy, and energy to matter. The latter is what happened shortly after the big bang, leaving immense clouds of Hydrogen and Helium (the simplest elements...This is why they are the most abundant in the Universe today) Because of the laws of gravity, clumps of hydrogen would have attracted more hydrogen, eventually collapsing, and with high enough temperatures, nuclear fusion began. The first stars were born. (cont)
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@lSaif Because we know that stars take light, simple atoms such as Hydrogen and fuse them into heavier elements, Helium, Oxygen, all the way up to Iron, this is where the rest of the heavier elements come from. Google Stellar Nucleosynthesis. When a massive star spends all of it's lighter nuclei, the star explodes, spewing all of the heavy elements from it's core into interstellar space to later coalesce into the next generation of stars, planets, etc. (cont)
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@lSaif The Big Bang was verified even more so with the data from the COBE satellite and in even finer detail by the WMAP satellite. All data ever gathered about the universe supports the expansion model. Just because you cannot seem to do the research or attempt to understand it doesn't make it not true. You're talking out your ignorant ass.
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@hondadrvr3 Thats not the point I am making, where did the gasses to create the big bang come from?
lSaif 9 months ago
@lSaif Gases were not required for the Big Bang to occur...As any cosmologist will tell you, matter did not exist at the point. Gas is matter. E=mc^2. It was incredibly dense, hot energy. No gas. Space itself did not even exist. If you're trying to discredit cosmic inflation by demanding there be some kind of gas present, good luck with that. I'm not trying to be an ass, but your argument is fundamentally flawed.
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@lSaif I need to stress that the Big Bang is a theory, not an unfounded hypothesis. A scientific theory is a model of explanation for observed or measured facts. If you do some googling, there are tons of places to find out what the theory actually states, the observations, and the evidence and math to back it up. Good luck!
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@lSaif Basically, gaseous matter did not exist until after the Big Bang, when the Universe cooled sufficiently for Hydrogen nuclei to form.
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@hondadrvr3 Look at it logically, there has to be something there for there to be something else, there has to be something created for the big bang to occur, there had to be something there (A God, just consider the idea for the sake of the argument) to create E=mc^2 because NOTHING appears out of anything.
If I am in a room without any particle, gas, heat, light, energy etc just nothing then nothing will be made out of it no matter how many trillions of years I wait.
lSaif 9 months ago
@lSaif No one ever said there was "nothing" before the Big Bang occurred. You're not researching. You're making false assumptions and false claims. All of the entirety of the cosmos was compressed into a singularity. No one said "nothing" was there. That the Big Bang occurred is observable, scientific fact. What happened before, or what process instigated this expansion is unknown. But by labeling what we don't yet know as "God" is intellectually dishonest.
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@hondadrvr3 Your not getting it, never mind the big bang what was there before anything to create the Universe? It is a question that cannot be answered simple as that because God was there.
lSaif 9 months ago
@lSaif No, you're not getting it. You're asserting the notion of a God being there without evidence. Science is backed by evidence. Scientists have no problem in admitting not knowing what occurred before the Universe as we know it today. But, unlike them, when faced with the currently unknown, you have to put the label "God" on it. What happened before the Big Bang is in the realm of quantum physics, not religion. Asserting that it was "God" without having evidence is absurd logic.
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@lSaif If you study history, you'll find that anything that was unexplainable at the time was labeled "God." As science finds out more and more, truths are revealed and old beliefs are thrown away.Humans once thought a God or Gods controlled natural events; lightning, earthquakes, the stars, life, death etc. Anytime science makes progress, religious folk seem to label what is unexplainable at the time as "God". It's intellectual dishonesty and hinders progress in our understanding of real truth.
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@hondadrvr3 Your still avoiding my question, re-read by previous comment. But to answer this comment God (In the Qu'ran) does talk about science being part of his creation.
For example in the QU'ran it talks about man being able to enter space with powerful tools (Space shuttles), all forms of life being made from water (Our bodies are 80% water), it talks abouts the sperm when it meets the female egg turns into a shape of a leech (Fetus) and much much more (Not enough characters).
lSaif 9 months ago
@lSaif I did answer your question completely and thoroughly...You ignored everything I explained to you..
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@lSaif The Quran also says "Created man, out of a clot of congealed blood (96:2)"--Referring to menstrual blood. This was before anyone had any notion of a female egg; common thought was that period blood played a role in conception. This is flat-out wrong. The Quran and the Bible both are filled with allegory, parables, and vague statements that any religious apologist will completely stretch and distort the meaning of to fit modern-day scientific findings in order to try to justify their faith.
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@lSaif You need to inspect your beliefs from a perspective outside of religious thought and research more information besides what's in the Quran and Quran apologetics. I have no ill will towards you and I wish you luck on your quest for knowledge!
hondadrvr3 9 months ago
@lSaif Even if all that vague shit in the Quran actually meant that, big fucking deal. Why doesn't the Quran talk about E=MC squared? What about Quantum Mechanics? Anything on post-secondary physics? Anything on post-secondary Chemistry? Too much? What about fossils or carbon or half-life? What kind of dumbass God reveals low-end scientific feats and then claims a scientifically perfect book? The myrmidons who actually believe it are even stupider

Jugglable 1 year ago
@Jugglable But those people he talks to make up most people in the world. It's more relevant for him to talk to idiots who can't even explain what they believe in than to some theologian. Either way, you have no basis for your claim. So he said "man", congratulations for blowing it out of proportion.
zofspade 1 year ago
@zofspade "But those people he talks to make up most people in the world."
They aren't representative of all religion. The movie should have been called "Fundamentaligous" instead of "Religulous."
"Either way, you have no basis for your claim."
What, so Maher *is* knowledgable about religion? There are a couple, just a couple, smart people he talked to in the movie, and what they said went right over his head.
Jugglable 1 year ago
@Jugglable "They aren't representative of all religion. "
Actually they are because idiots make up the majority of religion just as idiots make up the majority of the wold. He talks to several people who say they have the "right" way to interpret these Bronze Age text but they ignore that most people don't share their views.
I don't remember anyone going over his head. We must have watched different movies. Getting a few details wrong isn't the same as being wrong.
zofspade 1 year ago
@zofspade "idiots make up the majority of the wold."
Never mind the irony of you misspelling the word "world" in that sentence. An idiot is of below average intelligence, so it doesn't make sense to talk about most people being idiots.
As far as over his head, look at his interview with George Coyne.
Jugglable 1 year ago
@Jugglable That's not irony because idiocy has nothing to do with spelling. Don't worry, most people misuse that word.
Individuals are of average intelligence. The majority is idiotic.

why would that be embarrassing? i would be more embarrassed of my dad didnt even know that G-D is not a man and then making a massive movie with the main premise being that G-D is a man even though it isn't claimed that he is.

I'm embarrassed that humans can believe in such an idiotic thing as a GOD
SuperDekoi 2 years ago
you are embarrassed? do you know that if life was just a series of chances, the chance of you feeling embarrassed right now is approximately 10 to the power of 23 trillion (or something like that). the chances of winning a 1/14million lottery are too small to believe you could win but you believe in something with a statistical probability of 10 to the power of 23 trillion? now i'm embarrassed :)

You should be embarrassed... to have made a ridiculous statement like the one you just did... you're out there and i fear for your friends and family!

well you know what you think the big bang created this world? i dont disspute that. from c couple of floating gasss rite? who put them there how did it get there?nothing comes out of nothing its imposible. the universe how did that get here?
did it come out of a black hole? who put the black whole there? did the universe create itself? does it think for itself?
muslimah871 2 years ago
Who said I believe in a big bang?
See the problem with religion is that it was made in a time of ignorance when a deity was the best answer we had. We now know what makes the sun go up and down, we know that bacteria cause sickness...not sin, we now know what dreams are made of-and it certainly is not anything divine, we now know what is above the sky is an atmosphere and not some heaven.
We know matter can neither be created nor destroyed, but who says it couldn't have just been here?
TheMakhai 2 years ago
well you say its not created but how can matter not be created doest that go against the basic laws of nature and science not to mention any kind of sense?
muslimah871 2 years ago
I see you don't even have a basic understanding of science. This is a perfect example of why people of "faith" are laughed at. You try to dispute things without having even a basic understanding of it.
Look up the law of conservation of mass/matter.
Don't feel bad about making yourself look stupid right there. I wouldn't have expected anything else.
TheMakhai 2 years ago
The only people in the debate who thing something comes from nothing are the believers.
Science never has and never will claim that. Science will also never claim to know that which it doesn't. An arrogance claimed exclusively by believers.
PR13STG0RD0 2 years ago
it doesn't make sense, i don't believe that everything created itself from floating gasses without a creator, the world is far 2 complex to fit that statement.
muslimah871 2 years ago
You're not making the connection because you haven't done enough research. If you learn all that happened between the "floating gasses" and the evolution of life it will make more sense. Put down the book written by bronze age farmers and totalitarian rulers and pickup the books of the learned scholars. You will see it all come into perspective the more you learn. Richard Dawkins has a new book called "the greatest show on earth" that explains all the missing pieces.
PR13STG0RD0 2 years ago
I PUT IT ALL THERE, I am the All mighty God, who created the heaven and earth and since i am all mighty i created earth in 6 days but shit i was tired so i took a day off on the 7th day! I created day and night before the sun cause i didn't really think you guys would figure out that the light came from the sun! and I thought adam would be fine talking to the animals so i didn't create woman until much later. Adore me and praise me because I love the attention!
goodbeingtheking 2 years ago
if you are saying that arguing against a christian, fine. if you are saying that as arguing against a jew, i would ask you what is the jewish understanding of G-D resting on the 7th, writing the torah in that order, and creating woman after man? in judaism, G-D does things for more than just practicality, he does things that go against practicality for the sake of teaching (plants-animals-man-woman)
danndan6 2 years ago
is that what God Told you? did you hear it from his mouth... my guess is no.... Its amazing to me how you guys read something and then make all kinds of speculations and guesses and talk on God's behalf and explain what God thinks and why he does the things he does as if you speak to him. I can understand what you mean and if i were a moron i would buy it but no one knows for sure so i'm gonna say... NO DEAL!
goodbeingtheking 2 years ago
hhhmmm, OK.
so....what does gravity look like? have you ever seen it? no. do you have a phd in nuclear physics? no. yet you blindly believe that gravity exists even though you have never seen it purely on the basis that you are being told it does exist. i think a special word comes to mind.....hypocrite!
i only interpret the scriptures. i never claim to know G-D. i know what torah says about G-D. for example, hebrew scriptures explain why G-D created eve after adam. so as a jew..........
danndan6 2 years ago
.............i simply say "judaisms understanding of why G-D created adam before eve is X". i claim that the jewish people have the "most" correct understanding of G-D but never claim to know him fully. you however make an outright claim about G-D without ever fully studying the text that talks about the issue you are commenting on.
danndan6 2 years ago
HAHAHA.... I should have known you would play the gravity/air/love/hate etc CARD....
are you really that stupid... gravity has been proven... its what holds us down... the law applies to us all... if you jump off a building your precious Ya-guey! won't save you... do you now know why a helium balloon goes up into the air? probably not...
what's there to study... if the first chapter makes no sense.... why would you try to make sense of the one's following...
why don't you worship Buddha?
goodbeingtheking 2 years ago
you only see the effects of gravity but not gravity itself. i should have known you would play the apple falling card. i could equally say that i see the effects of G-D just like you see the effects of gravity but neither of us have actually seen either gravity or G-D.
yes i know why helium rises. was that an attempt to suggest that religious people are dumb? dont forget what group of people you are debating right now. if there is one accusation never made to my people it is dumb or ignorant.
danndan6 2 years ago
it was you that made that assumption... i simply wanted you to find the answer on your own and i didn't want to put any ideas in your head... so you know the reason why a ballon filled with helium can defy this law of gravity? and this law of gravity has been tested many times... and it isn't just a theory... its a known fact isn't it?
I'm sure you can make these pictures in your head and make sense of what i'm telling you... that arguement will get you no where... God... cannot be proven.
goodbeingtheking 2 years ago
do we go and worship gravity? is gravity the our creator?
A word comes to mind... IGNORANT!
goodbeingtheking 2 years ago
no but you believe it exists dont you? you believe something exists without ever seeing it and basing your belief in its existence on someone you have never met. the fact that it is not G-D is just a red herring as the argument is about reasons to believe in something that are logical.
danndan6 2 years ago
right i believe it exists... and i think its interesting... and the tests they've done are all interesting and so i don't go door to door preaching gravity and telling everyone that they better believe in gravity or they'll fly right up into the sky out of hemisphere and pulled towards sun and burn for all eternity.
Make sense?
goodbeingtheking 2 years ago
i dont believe in budda because if it could be proven that buddha made the claims of revelation, there would be no reason to believe it because you cannot test it...it's just one person claiming to have spoken to G-D. however, in judaism it is very different. the claim is 3million people claiming to witness it and through 3 millenia, it never changed from 10-13 plagues etc. in other words, national credibility. go to court with a one witness and who cares? go to court with 3million witnesses...
danndan6 2 years ago
don't be foolish... do you even know the story behind Buddha? he never claimed to speak to god... even Krishna.... they both said that we are all devine creatures and taught people about conscious awareness... Krishna, was a prince... who gave up his life of royalty to seek self awareness... they never claimed super human powers. or healing... they taught people how to heal themselves through meditation... you can call it prayer but people don't pray TO BUDDHA... they learn from Buddha...
goodbeingtheking 2 years ago
so i revert back to my original statement which you misunderstood...it is one person making the claim. how can he be sure that there is no G-D?
danndan6 2 years ago
again... he doesn't claim God in any form... doesn't say he exists or deny his existance... so the argument is pointless... why don't you believe in Zeus? or Santa? the Chupacabras? Aliens?
that's a good one... plenty of people have claimed to have witnessed UFOs and many have witnessed the same UFO miles away from each other... so what is your opinion on them?
goodbeingtheking 2 years ago
I believe in the Liger! he protects us from the giant squid.... so i go door to door to spread the word about the Liger and why he is the one and true God...

it's a ridiculous analogy. it would only make sense if we claimed that G-D was a man. seeing as G-D is the cause of space, he MUST BE omnipresent so maher clearly doesn't know the first thing about what we say G-D is.

Why are you writing G-D?

You got 3 thumbs down for your Talmud hate for non-jews.
PhuqueU 2 years ago
what part of my comments on this page were gentile hating? what part of the talmud is gentile hating? i am sure you have been reading some messed up stuff about the talmud but it take decades to become even slightly adept at talmud so i doubt you know it's opinions about non jews. let me make it short....we love you, you are equal to us. is that more compatible with the fact that in judaism, we all have the same father (adam)???? i got three thumbs down for explaining that G-D is not a man.
danndan6 2 years ago
i believe that you got 3 thumbs down for believing in such childish things... not for the explination! thank you!
and in my opinion if you think your G-D is the right G-D and everyone else is wrong is another type of hate...
I think you're a hater... you hate that everyone else thinks for themselves and you let others do the thinking for you...
don't hate! Appreciate!
goodbeingtheking 2 years ago
that is such an ignorant statement about judaism. judaism doesnt believe that people are judged based on what they believe. judaism says deed over creed. having a belief doesnt mean that i hate people with other beliefs. if anything it is you who is speaking hate to people with different beliefs. be a christian, atheist, muslim whatever...just be a good person. this is what judaism teaches. i was simply voicing my view and the response i get is pure hate and thus hypocricy. dont hate, appreciate

It IS impossible for one man to fly around the world in one night, God is not a man, God is a divine omniscient force. Maher needs to do some homework. A rather pathetic example of bait and switch, ambush journalism. I expect the usual liberal sheep will love this as much as the love Al "save the polar bears" Gore's climate hoax.
perunatic 2 years ago
So are you saying Santa Clause ISN'T a divine omniscient force? If he isn't whats your proof? I like how to guys split hairs to come up with some bogus explanation.
If God isn't human
-why do you guys always refer to him as Him? I'm pretty sure he doesn't have XY chromosomes. I'll tell you why. Because most monotheistic religions were created in male driven societies.
-why are he made in God' image? I'll tell you why. Because we created him. Pretty fucking convenient huh?
mont3818 2 years ago
Yes! I'm saying that there is symbolic, literal and allegorical truth in the Bible. Santa Clause on the other hand, is a myth.
perunatic 2 years ago
Couldn't you make the same argument for Santa?
symbolic: We keep up the tradition by giving our kids presents
literal: Das Christkind and St. Nicholas
And an allegorical truth is almost the same as a symbolic truth.
So are you saying the Bible is a fable than? That's what symbolic and allegorical "truths" are. That taps into mythology. Be careful what you say.
mont3818 2 years ago
Your invisible superman is a myth. If it is a force then call it energy or quantum but dont call it God since the definition for God goes something like this. Old white bearded superhuman like invisible man living in the sky who is all knowledeable and all powerful yet unwilling to prove himself because he is too busy having fun killing people and causing 2 million natural miscarieges (natual abortions) while he is sending people to hell for using their logic.

Maybe God's got XX chromosomes. Huh? Huh? No, probably not, because then that'd suggest that 'god' actually exists.
Damn.
gingerfreakinkid 2 years ago
we say "him" because it is the easiest way for our little brains to comprehend it. technically G-D is neither male nor female but because we are relatively dumb, we need a word to use so we say "him". you want proof that G-D exists? you cant even prove that maher exists.
danndan6 2 years ago
You can't ever prove whether God exists or not. That's what belief and having faith is all about. And it doesn't excuse how silly the idea is anyway; the grown-up version of a childs imaginary friend.
For instance I could say a tiny teapot orbits the Sun at exactly the opposite course Earth does. We could never prove its there one way or the other, but I'm sure most of us can dismiss it rather quickly for how silly the idea and impossible is. Probability is very important ^_^
