Yes it is cthulhu altough it doesnt look like it. There are two statues of cthulhu in that room plus boleskine said it before.

I gotta say, even though he's English, the protagonist has incredible composure. You'd think he'd let off a "What in the name of HOLY FLIPPING HELL!" just once through the whole game. :P
