  • Great job man! I do praise and Worship. And once a month we do an acoustic set. Just percussion, Guitar and vocals. I've managed to work a little brushes with snare into some of the songs. You've given me a few ideas. Thanks!

  • Glad you like it and best of luck!

  • The major talent is a nervous twitch.

  • Ha! I love this! So cool, something I've never dedicated the time to but would LOVE to learn. It sounds fantastic with the brushes. Excellent work!

  • at the end what kind of drum sticks where you using

  • @MadmaN359

Hi They are standard telescopic wire brushes with rubber handles - nothing special, Regal Tip brand

  • @drumhat thats cool i should try that thanks

  • i can do this with my feet :-P ... no i can't :(

  • Very cool!!!! Are you left handed? Let's see a video with the left hand now!!! :D

  • how much are good brushes

  • like 30 in canada thats like 1 million in US dollars---->thats only a joke, u guys are still in a recession lol GO MAPLE LEAFS

  • 'you guys'? jackass. what happens here affects everyone. directly.

  • now post of a video of you not sucking at it

  • Nice. Especially with the brushes

  • yo just learn the moeller technic.

    its alot more cleaner.

  • Aamzing

    How do u do it

  • wierd but cool ..

  • hahaha

  • i think that using rim roll technique is easier to go faster and steadier with if you could post a lesson of rim rolls i would love it

  • Hi. There are lots of videos on rim rolls. The point of this version is you can do rolls on cymbals, toms - or anything without a rim, although it needs to be wide enough for the motion to work. It definitely does take more practice!

  • great !!! I know that technique , I studied It for about one year

    that's very well done!!

    i love these old techniques

  • how long did it take u to get this? its awesome! =D

  • Hi, it took me about 6 months to get the basics down, starting with brushes and then develop on sticks. It depends how much you practice, and as with most things you get better the more you practice!

  • ahh kool. did u find the sideways motion difficult at first? coz my wrist just goes into a spaz attack wenever i try it and i miss the drum half the time =/

  • Hi, This is basically a jazz style roll from the past. The action is like holding a paintbrush and moving it left and right on a flat surface. When your speed builds up try it with drum brushes. Finally with sticks you need to add a slight bounce helped by the drum skin tension which creates a sort of figure of eight action. Needs lots of practice and is not something really taught - I just picked it up. Hope that helps. Best of luck!

  • yes, thank you :) i think i`got it! but theres one problem - i know this one doing with brushes, but with stick.... hmmmm should hold the stick very vertical? is that right? well i understand what u mean but if i do this u just hear the first hit you know? sorry for bad english - thank you anyway :)

  • Check out the video. Hands are not vertical. Use traditional grip between thumb and 2nd finger. Action is moving the stick left to right and back using your wrist as a central point. As you speed up you go from 16th notes to 32nd notes as a roll. You can add accents or pulse when you develop your sensitivity. Not for hard hitters - best for lighter jazz/funk things!

  • yay this video was added on my birthday. cool.

  • I can't even do this with 2 hands.

  • PRACTICE :- )

  • Hello Mate.

Try looking for one handed drum roll either on youtube or somewhere else!you'll see what I mean!

  • Done like a Master. (a monkey can bounce a stick off a rim) but this takes many hours of practice. I like to do the same only double up each stroke.

  • kolay iş

  • I do that on my cymbals only with a matched grip, mostly on the ride and crash, but I do it a bit on my hi hat. I'm curious to wonder how this would work with those zildjian DIP sticks...

  • Never tried DIp sticks but lots of people don't like the rubber - hurts their hands or something. The technique I use is good for playing a roll with one hand and a different pattern with the other. Hope to demonstrate later with another video.

  • Is it easier to do when your snare drum is tilted a bit, I tried it on it but it didn't work to well.

  • It works on flat surface or angled. Great on bell of cymbals, Hi-hat or toms. Brushes really only work on snare. A drummer who said he played with Duke Ellington showed it to me at a gig I was playing - but he was a bit worse for drink.

  • like jo jones snare?

  • very wierd but very cool:)

  • Nice that swiping motion is the way the old-school drummers did their rolls.

  • Cool stuff

  • Cool stuff!

It would be cool if someone actually explained the one-handed roll...!

  • Hi! I will do another video with more of an explanation soon. Hold the stick jazz grip style lightly, as if you were holding a paint brush, flick the wrist left to right and back again. Start slow and even, then slowly build up speed. Brushes are the same principle, but you loose the natural bounce of a stick. Hope that helps.
