Regarding China-The only time I will fear China is when they get a "Blue Navy". Until then, I could care less how many poor people they have. And I'm sure the Tibetans would fight for Communism. France is fucked up? Try looking at America without bias. And military wise France and Germany have enough to take on America, Same with UK and any other major western power. And you wouldn't win a nuclear war, you'd draw in that both sides and lots of people not involved would all be dead.

slabwrankle, France and Germany's combined militaries couldn't take on America. We have the new F-22 Raptor fighter that's a generation ahead of anything they have. We have almost a dozen nuclear-powered supercarriers in the US navy. France has 1 small carrier that barely works right.

Thats a daft comment, showing a complete lack of knowledge about modern warfare. The Eurofighter Typhoon flown by the has proven to be a close match for the F-22 (for example it is faster), and against other 4th Generation Jetfighters completely unstoppable. But that isn't important in a nuclear conflict. What is important is that the French have about 400 100 kT Nuclear Warheads mounted in nuclear submarines as good as any American vessel. No one wins a nuclear war.

Ah, but that means that the nature of the French Millitary begins to work against it - it is designed as a primarily defensive system along the theories of MAD. A country with a small exchequer such as France cannot compete against a larger country with a more agressive millitary. Essentially only the U.S., Russia, China and to an extent G.B. retain conventional armed forces, and as such they are the only armies where a High-Level conventional war is a viable option.

I love America but it sort of freaks me out that they are building up Soviet/Roman-style immense army and stockpiles of weaponry, owing so much to China and Brazil, even Russia. There's something wrong to it, building more and more carriers on Indian money. In the end, it strengthens different nations. Creditors could make USA bankrupt in a week; no-one wants it, but not because of US military, because the world vaklues different things America is about.
