I'm not sure about how long the meterologists have been talking about this, but they gave enough notice for GDOT and other localities to be prepared. Me neither.
I was stuck at my parents house off of 166 in Douglasville until 10 hrs. ago. You have to go down a steep hill to 166 from the road that comes off of their neighborhood. 166 was still pretty icy, but everything else on the way to Lithia Springs looked alright. It has been one huge mess, hasn't it?
Sorry but never experienced snow in our place, is the road that slippery? from the video i guess your running at 20 to 40kph. By the way i thought the music was a David Benoit hehehe
I love sliding on ice when no one is around! sometimes there parking lots that get really iced so thats when I like to go out and mess around but not like an idiot as some speed doing it and end up hitting a wall or pole or something as you see alot on youtube! dang that looked like really piled ice that had more and less in differ spots thats crazy when its like that! nice vid!
Boy does that look slick. We still have a lot of packed snow on the side roads here, but that's only because we got nearly 2 feet of snow 2 das ago, so it's gonna take a while to melt lol. Great video. I like the new video editing software, too.
But I'm sure it didn't take y'all's street departments this long to clear it (snow and ice). Though, we (Metro Atlanta) don't get snow often (we do get ice pretty often), we've gotta do better: ask other states for help, bring in contractors, and prep before a storm hits.
Thanks. I'm glad that the vids look a bit better with the new software. :-)
I guess those 11 (or was it 10?) snowplows Atanta had were a little overtasked. I think the little town (pop. 3000) had 25 or so. But, like Virginia Beach, nobody in the south wants to spend money on removal since it is so unusual. Nice drive B,glad you didn't hit anything.
Well, Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed said that they had twenty-one snow plows (I don't know how it went from ten to twenty-one like that, but anyway...) Those plows were for the City of Atlanta alone, which increased to 80 or so, because of contractors. Fulton County only had seven. I'm not sure how many GDOT had. We needed to utilize contractors more than we did here.
Hmm, doesn't seem THAT bad anymore. That icy hill you went down at 2:20, though... that would that get my blood pumping even with the best of standard winter tires. You'd think the transportation department would have either salted or at least taken a grater to it, eh?
Yeah, not THAT bad, but folks are still having wrecks left and right, because they don't know how (or care) to adjust their speed to adverse conditions. At night, 2:20 is going to be a hotter (icier) mess than it was here in the daylight. Then this area is in front of a school as well; glad that school's been out since this past Monday.
The city public works, I think, cleaned this mess up. I didn't go back the same way, though.
C'mon you don't need to drive that slow!
From Finland ;)

Now that stretch of road beginning @ 1:11 should have been dealt with.

People up north drive on this all the time. We're all kind of laughing watching people in Atlanta.

Yeah, for Northerners to be laughing at Southerners, it seems like the folks in Pittsburgh can't drive on ice. ;-)

Awesome stuff. I'm not good at the snow stuff (lol). This is almost a once a decade event in southern Louisiana. Great Vid and sounds.

Yeah, not too many here in Atlanta are sure of themselves in the ice and snow, due to all of the spin-outs that we had. Thanks.

Yeah, it was very slippery. No way to get any traction. In spots, there 1-2" of ice between the tires and the road.
