  • woody allen is a neurotic who knows to make money out of it!

  • 13 years!!! Perhaps the psychoanalysist just kept on inventing problems that he didn't actually have to keep the money coming in?

    13 years!!!

  • Haha am I the only one who notices how hilarious the title of "Dick & Woody" is?

  • @mthrnaturesson at the same time we can argue that it has actually saved a lot of peoples lives, it is recognised as a proven treatment in the modern world for conditions like depression. you are right to voice concern about the whole sexual matter because frankly freud over stated the importance of sex in the human psychology. its certainly plausible that the majority of our behaviours are subconsciously motivated by reproduction, just not to that extent. thats no critiscism of psychoanalysis.

  • LOL two very unfortunate names...dick and woody XD

  • Sorry i have the authority to say that the pedi`s r goin` down. Stuff that in ur daughter and smoke it mother f*er.

  • my favorite director, living, along w/ lnych, eastwood...and a few others.

  • @kahuna3901 look psychoanalysis can harm people, but thats why psychologist are trained with ethics and to aim for health of that person... in the same way you could say medicine its potentially harmfull for people, but its needed as much as psychoanalisis

  • psychoanalysis is potentially harmful to people, imagine uncovering a repressed memory of being raped or potentially filling your mind with a fake belief that you have been raped. these types of things can happen with psycho analysis. its very probably that the placebo effect cures people rather than frueds proposed treatment. i think the problem comes from frueds dodgy theories, not really my opinion although the oedipal theory is quite dodgy. psycosexual development is a good idea

  • wow, nobody sais automobile anymore

  • This was not an audience. It was the crew.

  • Some people are capable of providing amazing happiness to the masses. Woody Allen is one of these people.

  • Adoro os filmes de Woody Allen. Ele retrata como ninguém as neuroses do mundo contemporâneo. Com um humor fino e irônico. Mundo moderno, mundo complexo e fragmentado. Convido a assistirem a um vídeo-poema sobre a perplexidade do homem contemporâneo, com a poesia “Perplexidade em paz”, imagens de grande força e a música “Sonata ao luar” de Beethoven. Procurar no youtube por: Perplexidade em paz

  • Great scene from Bananna's........the clashing Crusifix's, Thanks!

  • Woody used to be my Downstairs neighbor with Louise Lasser on 79th. street, till 1968 when I moved to Sicily. My Dashund did not like his and he always tried to crap on his doormat. Once succeeding.

  • great moments:

That just came in last week !!

    Because I'm ticklish

  • That just came in last week !! I've seen the whole hour and a half and the first hour is amazingly funny.

  • this is probably my favorite interview ever

  • @euginam91

    Yes - this is Classic!!!

  • I love how Allen in '08 tried to assert that he's "really not a neurotic person". Is he kidding anyone?

  • dick and woody...woody dick.... :D

  • i know all the intellectual snobs are gonna say i sound shallow but i just LOVE those saddle shoes

  • Woody is trying too hard, I like him more when he does dryer humor.

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

  • What's the significance of that dream?

  • @gringotroller I guess the black dressed people are their demons and woody nd the other guy r being crucified, in real world interpretation= They are possessed nd abused by the demons, the demons have total control over them and when the fight happens b/n d demons= woody and that guy is fightting but they r not fighting but their demons, if thaat makes any sense. That's what I observed from the scene... Just an opinion tho

  • "That just came in last week" LOL - thing is though that Allens humour isnt always suited to an interview because his funniest answers are fictional

  • Woody has mastered the art of not cracking a smile at his own jokes.

  • i have the biggest man crush on woody

  • @Lwrncisascientist I'm sure he's thrilled...

  • did dick cavett also do psychoanalysis?

  • didn't Woody do a line in a movie that said "I was at my mothers for dinner last week and I made a Freudian slip, I meant to ask her to pass the potatoes but instead I said 'you ruined my life you stupid bitch'- I'm not sure if the wording is correct- but I seem to remember that line in connection with Woody Allen- does anyone know where it came from?

  • haha. which movie? no idea. but that's brilliant. Freudian slip.

  • Maybe "Annie Hall"?

  • @origlilone That's from a Fresier episode! I've quoted that a few times myself.

  • love this guy

  • the crucifix parking scene, he took from himself for Anything Else. Self referential, perhaps.

  • Awesome!

  • Thomas Szasz a jewish libertarian psychiatrist who gained famed with his book "Myth of Mental Illness" could save Mr. Allen some money but maybe it helped him make better movies humor who knows

  • Canned laughter ruins dry humour.

  • It's schmuck you fool.

  • fuck you putz!!!!

  • This guy is one witty comedian. There aren't many smart comedians, and by smart comedian I mean intellectual comedians.

  • Who are the others, to you?

  • Woody, I just love Woody-one of my very favorite comedians. His humor is clean and divinely effortless, such a contrast to many contemporary comedians.

  • when they start backing in the cross i either had a diabetic seizure or an diabetic orgasm... i wish i could name myself that scene!

and when the other guy cut in i decide to leave a comment that ended with "that was a scene from writer/director Woody Allen's feature length presentation, 'Bananas'"

  • Man, Bananas was amazing. But he got better I thought. Eventually he sold out but I always check to see if he'll make another sweet little flick like Scenes from a Mall or the cookie movie(forget the name)

  • jesus, the films they make today with all thier money and production don't do even close what Bananas and other Allen films did for me.

  • Does anybody else prefer the films Woody wrote with Mickey Rose (Take the Money and Run, Bananas) over any of his other stuff?

  • All of Woodys films are pure gems.

  • wish I could thumb this up more than once

  • @airbornef16 not all, but many...

  • @airbornef16 Bullets over Broadway - Not a gem. Neither some of the later ones.

  • ahead of his time. they just don't get his sarcasm.

  • RE: NathanBForrestKKK

a less anti-semitic audience would be rolling on their the floor laughing.

    Oh please. They're not anti-semitic,

    they're just not as self-absorbed.

  • Freud said very little Nietzsche hadn't said thirty years earlier.. except he enveloped it in scientific humanist rhetoric whereas Nietzsche appealed to radical perspectivism. I don't agree whole-heartidly with either, but Nietzsche was certainly far more intuitive and important than Freud in my opinion - he just didn't attempt to found a new science.

  • not to mention neitzsche published in 40 years what freud did in 80.

  • "certainly far more intuitive and important"

ahahaha you say that like its something objective that can be measured with a ruler. i have a feeling all this knowledge of yours is of no use at your rather unimpressive job (or lack thereof). Proof meets pudding.

  • Of course my statement wasn't objective fact - I was making the case for Nietzsche for fucks sake! Freud himself once openly admitted to avoided the work of Nietzsche, "[for his] guesses and intuitions often agree in the most astonishing way with the laborious findings of psychoanalysis" (1924: 60).

It astonishes me you attack my argument in such trivial terms and then go straight for the ad hominem that I'm a student and thus have no job. I've been studying Freud and Nietzsche, that's why!

  • no u havent lol uv bin studyin how 2 b a berk lol

  • JimmyRingo: You seem to be a really courageous person, approaching to someone who is clearly more intelligent than you. And with such a ridiculously poor grammar! Dude, "UV BIN STUDYN HOW 2 B N AMERICAN IDIOT". "Lols" to you, my dear friend.

  • lol u r so dumb Dude!!!!! U seem 2 b an asshole! LOLS

  • I've been studying Freud and Nietzsche, that's why!

I´ve been studying snobs, I just found one

  • I'm a snob for showing I've actually read some of the people concerned? If you're so resolutely anti-intellectual, why are you even looking at Freud videos, let alone commenting..

  • @ tosmega: Your post belongs to a serious board discussion. Although I know how hard it is to avoid arguing with gentleman who proove that the stupidity of their states is only surpassed by their ignorance. Please, excuse the grammar mistakes. English is not my lenguaje.

  • "the stupidity of their states?" What, are you calling the land masses stupid? Or do you really believe that hundreds of millions of people all happen to be ignorant and stupid? It's so ironic how so many people come on here saying "Americans are all stupid and arrogant," thus displaying precisely those traits they claim to hate.

  • @ musicismycrack: I did not mean "states". Sorry, translation mistake. I meant "the points they try to make". I called that dude an "American idiot" because of his grammar. Funny, comming from me, huh?

  • You know the world was flat once. lol. Just something to think about.

  • freud was a genius because he convinced people he could help them by just talking to them, and you'd pay him for it.

  • 8 years on the couch! lmao this is so great, only 65,665 views I surprised this hasnt got 1billion views! What is really scary is that I actually saw this original interview broadcast on TV! Thank you for the share. What a blast!

  • Allen sigue haciendose el loco, así que aun no deja de idealizar a su analista.

  • wow, what a terrible audience. Woody's terrific though

  • @senarodrigo they are listening why are they bad? Woody is trying to be funny so you can't say they are laughing at his life.

  • @SRNF no its that they are NOT laughing. he makes so many jokes that go right over their heads.

  • Remember that Freud said that the only society where psychoanalysis would work would be a society that no longer needed psychoanalysis.

So much of the pontificating and arguing that goes on surrounding analysis is concerned with whether it 'works.' Any other insights derived from psychoanalytic theory are thus labeled wrong or misguided because "IT DOESN'T WORK!"

Only once you step back from the obsession with efficacy can you really understand what psychoanalysis is trying to say and do.

  • you sound like quite the expert..

    especially how you cited studies.

  • I didn't cite studies. I speak from experience. I've been through therapy, and to this day am dependent on medication. Nonetheless I find absolutley no benefit in "therapy".

Chemical imbalence doesn't require "chatting" with a shrink, it requires medication. Without the meds, I'd be a basketcase, but any kind of therapy is of no value to me whatsoever.

Psychiatrists are overrated. Their talk is expensive, while meds are cheap, but they make you "buy" the talk first. It's a racket.

  • So you take your own personal experience, externalize it and make it a reality for everyone else?

A Chemical imbalance is not the ONLY reason for emotional/psychological disorders, although it may be true for you.

There's psychological trauma, there's bad past experiences that can lead to neuroses that can trigger anxiety and depression, a large amount that can be helped by cognitive/behavioural therapy.

You're just speaking from your gut.

  • I said nothing to contradict your views about psychoanalysis. I merely said that I find it to be a bunch of baloney. It didn't help me. What part of that is wrong?

Obviously many people enjoy their visits with shrinks, and don't even mind the cost. That just isn't for me. I need the prescriptions for my meds, and I'm fine. My meds cost a lot less than those psychiatrist visits. That's my beef, nothing else.

Hopefully you better understand my point of view in this.

    PEACE TO EVERYONE!

  • amen

  • well 1 person is certainly quite an expansive sample of the human population.

  • Was that English or just Psycho?

  • /cut

  • "/cut "

    Full deck?

  • My psychiatrist is listening to music more than to patient during the sessions, but turns CD player off when I come in, maybe he does not want to ruin his authority by his musical taste.

  • how is he retarded?

  • Woody Allen is one of the most interesting and hilarious human beings I have ever seen. He's really smart. The actual term "retarded" refers to a person with a low IQ which he doesn't seem to have. Read a book Jorge PLEASE before you talk about one of the greatest screenwriters of all time. Thanks!

  • no offense, but you need therapy.

  • I just watched "Bananas" the other day. I love the Woodman!

  • this is goldust,....sooo witty

  • Brilliant. Dick Cavett was the best interviewer in the late night talk show circuit, with his Jack Benny and Jack Parr personal traits.

  • Woody extracts brilliance from his neuroses. That's the best way to deal with pain, if one can pull it off.

  • Dude's so blatantly sexist!

  • There is a lot of Barth's The End of the Road in this discussion.

  • omg.even jesus thought that was funny. hahaha

  • woody is very very quick!!

  • when was this on air??

  • obviously in 1970. Woody says he's 35 here.

  • I think this is 1971....october 20 1971.

  • Bananas was released in April 1971, so this must have aired as someone else said, later in '71. Woody would have been 36 on December 1st of that year

  • Woody rules

  • wig out!

  • When did the store run out of intellectual comedian filmmakers? I want another Woody Allen.

  • Larry David.

    hes the new larry david

  • I like Larry David, but I wouldn't call him an intellectual.

  • It's sad but true. Woody Allen is unique and it will be too long until someone even approaches his witts!

  • i love all his paradoxes

  • it mcdonalds dick head, be tolerant of the celtic culture.

  • So how many times has France lost to England in wars? Every time?

  • "Wars not make one great."

    - Yoda

  • Well said. Star Wars is always right (Im not kidding you're right): "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering."

  • Freudian psychoanalysis sucks.

watch "The Century of Self" by Adam Curtis online!

  • "This series is about how those in power have used Freud's theories to try and control the dangerous crowd in an age of mass democracy."

What does this have to do with Freud?

Note, "about how those in power have used Freud's theories"........

  • Charles Mingus wrote a song called "All the Things You Could Be by Now If Sigmund Freud's Wife Was Your Mother".

Listen to it because it's great.

watch "The Century of Self" by Adam Curtis because it's great!

Freudian psychoanalysis sucks. Not because of any song of film, it just does.

  • I love Dick. His voice is so sexy

  • hi! can I get the subtitles, anywhere?

  • i would rather fight than switch

  • Thanks for these! I missed it on TMC and they won't repeat it!
