  • I use organix , Fantasis heat protect and infusium 23 to take care of my hair. I am 2 years natural and love it would not want it any other way. I had to get away from relaxers. I try to color once every 3 months. My hair turns white not gray so coloring is a 911. I love my hair it has never been so pretty and healthy. I get so much praise from others now that I have gotten my hair to this point. Take this as a set back, embrace and love your hair and remember that hair will grow back. Take care

  • @mshard4you Thanks so much for sharing your tips as well as the encouragement to continue on past the one-year mark in my relaxer!! I hope one day to be saying the same thing as you are about my hair. Is there anywhere I can see your hair for inspiration?

  • I used Suave's 30 day product. I did the Japanese straightening - After many "smoothing" repititions (8 hours) it looked like a bad relaxer. When I got home, I restyled using oil sheen & pink lotion - it was like a relaxer but better texter and lasted 6 mos. Out of curiosity, I tried the Suave product, used oil sheen during the blow dry and flat iron process - and guess what? It worked very well. I think that it's best to review the process of hair products for what you know best, is wise.

  • Why dont you do a long-term transition into natural hair...Go to FusionOfCultures page. She was a long time transitioner who didnt go bald to go natural. She may have sum useful tips for y0u

I wish u GOOD LUCK ...Stay Blessed

  • @CherryAppetite I will take your advice because my hair is turning into a frizzy mess (see my more recent videos), and I have prayed and ask God for a healthy solution. I don't want to give up, but I a SO tired of the extra work required to detangle and style it every morning. Waaaaahhhhhh!!!!! :-( Thanks for the support though!

  • @eformationqueen

You'd do good with protective styles like braids, crochet braids and sengalese twist. Theyre very low maintanece, they last anywhere from 1-3mos and u can rinse ur scalp as needed after evey workout.

  • your hair is not supposed to do straight or do curly, your hair is not supposed to DO anything, is just is!

  • @TheMarcyLandry True, it just is. Why can't some of us be happy with what our hair "is"????

  • try black castor oil

  • @tifwit1 I did. :-( I bought a huge bottle of Jaimaican black castor oil and used it every day for months. Obviously my follicles are madder than mad because there was no noticeable difference. Thanks though. I guess it will take time.

  • omg ur so freaking prettttty!

  • @queenfee Thanks! You too, and your hair is gorgeous! I may have to get me a feather flat once you tell me where you find them. :-)

  • make sure you moisture and seal your hair especially the ends while you stretch your relaxer and make sure you do a deep condition and apply leave in conditioner.

  • @acbills83 Thx. I may have doing a little too much of the moisturizing and sealing as my natural roots just suck up the moisture. Also, I am using so many leave-in treatments because my hair gets so tangled. I am trying a new recipe for a leave-in detangler, and I am hoping it will help. Also, I am forcing myself to deep condition every week. If I didn't have such a huge head, I would think about cutting it all off! :-) Thanks for the input and confirmation! Happy New Year!

  • @hair2bfree I saw them at Target, but I have not tried them. I have tried almost everything else though. :-) What has been your experience with them? Trying not to waste any more money. :-) Thanks!

  • I know this is an old video, but I wanted to comment on the idea of making your hair do something it wasn't meant to do. I think you should feel free to do what you want with your hair. I know my mom who is white would often perm her hair to make it really curly, because she didn't like her straight hair. No one lectured her about trying to make her hair do what it wasn't meant to do. More than once her hair was fried and had to be allowed to grow out. Thanks for reviewing these products!!

  • @walenihula Thanks so much! I really appreciate that, especially since I am contemplating relaxing after a one-year break. I wish I could say that my initial intent was to review these products for the good of others, but it just turned out that my bad experiences wound up being reviews for others. :-) If it helps someone else, at least there was a purpose. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!

  • some advice you NEED to try Elasta QP soy oyl products. i too am a relaxer addict and was searching for a product that would soften my hair between relaxers. I was able to stay 2 months before relaxing my hair which is a milestone. i would usually relax my hair every month. Elasta Qp products are the best!!! Shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, deep conditioning treatment, super gro scalp treatment. My hair is gorgeous, even my regrowth is SOFT; GET ELASTA QP you won't be disappointed

  • @lolita247247 Thanks! I may try some of them, but I have to check for sulfates. I am getting kinda desperate because I amnow in a relaxtural state, and the natural hair has a mind of it's own. I started a series of videos called "Relaxer-Free for Life?" In it, I share my experiences on trying to gradually go natural w/out doing a big chop. So far I am almost 8 mos into the process, and I am wondering if I will cave when I reach the one-year mark. Will keep you posted! Thx again!

  • Get the straight facts along with lovely, smooth hair! Without the proper ventilation cosmetologists may be over exposed to excessive levels of formaldehyde or glutaraldehyde, so they should invest in an efficient ventilation system. A "Chemical Source Capture System" removes these potentially harmful vapors from the breathing zone of both the stylist and client. Search "Chemical Source Capture System", "Hair Smoothing Controversy" or "Preferred BKT Ventilation" for additional information.

  • @AerovexSystems I won't be getting this treatment ever again, but I appreciate your sharing this because articles that I have been reading suggest that some stylists are experiencing side effects associated with the fumes from these products. Also, clients getting the treatment are as well. I think my bad experience could have been a blessing in disguise because the company who made the BKT I used is one of the ones who falsely claims their products are formaldehyde-free.

  • I also have a friend who had a 'trusted" stylist for over 11 years & she has a autoimmune disease and is taking lots of medication, surely all that medication is affecting her hair. Am sure after doing her hair for so many years he saw the thinning & stress her hair was under, yet he still kept putting in perms and color knowing that her hair was under stress due 2 the acceleration of her disease. It was thinning badly. Last time she left his salon she had bald spots. I don't trust stylist!

  • @msiloveshoes Wow, I am sorry for your friend. Will certainly say a prayer for her. That is where I am now -- I don't trust stylists. I can't name one that I have had consistently good experiences with -- it is a shame, but it is true. I know some who do, but I have not. Once I master the gray coloring thing, I think I will be the only one taking care of my hair. I am the only one, it seems, with my best interest at heart. Thanks for stopping by and sharing!

  • @eformationqueen - Hang in there Lady, I'm sure now that you know what you know now, things will be entirely different and your hair will rebound. I use Rainbow Henna by Rainbow Research Company to cover my gray. I do not use hair dyes with PPD in them. Stay away from Bigen if anyone ever suggest them. I use the Dark Brown Henna and I add a little indigo to the Rainbow Henna and it takes care of the gray, no damage to my hair. Whatever U decide to use, make sure it does not have PPD.

  • @msiloveshoes Thanks so much! Someone suggested I try Henna for Gray Hair by Ancient Sunrise. According to the website, there is no PPD, and the lady suggested that the henna might loosen my curl pattern (which would be a nice perk) and improve the health of my hair. I am going to mix my henna in a few minutes. I am nervous, yet excited. Sounds like a lot of work, but I am excited about covering the gray more effectively. Will post a video afterwards! :-) Thanks again for the kind words!

  • @eformationqueen - good suggestion. To cover the gray add two 100 grams of indigo to one 100 gram of Henna to cover the gray.

  • Perhaps this treatment is a better alternative for younger women with Type 2 hair. They seem to be the ones that have the least amount of 'issues' with this procedure. Type 4 hair is very fragile & as you age and your hormones start to fluctuate wildly (due to perimenopause) it does take a toll on your hair (DHT issues kick in like thinning, slow growth, coarse gray hair, etc.). After age forty best thing to do to save your hair from the aging process is to go ALL natural. I wish U the best.

  • @msiloveshoes Sounds like wisdom to me! I am actually learning to love my "relax-tural" state (haven't had a touch-up since February, which I never thought would EVER be possible). If I can beat the gray thing (planning to try henna indigo), I am thinking I can make it. We shall see! Thanks for stopping by and sharing. Take Care!

  • sounds like you need a new stylist! im confused a little tho, i dont understand why you would relax after you had the keratin treatment? wasnt the treatment suppose to be the alternative?

  • @AGP871 YOU ARE RIGHT, I DO! However, unfortunately now I do not trust anyone. Also,"I" did not relax after the keratin treatment, MY STYLIST asked me to come in after I told her about my matted, tangled roots, AND SHE RELAXED IT! Because of the damage, we agreed she would give me half of the $450 I paid, a refund for the shampoo and conditioner, as well as a free touch-up. :-( You are right, this was sold to me as an alternative. Oh well, you live and you learn. Take Care

  • you remind me of janet jackson

  • @Gingerandcoco Really?! I've never heard that before! Well thanks for stopping by!

  • It sounds like you've got a lot of sense, which is refreshing to hear. You also seem very kind and well informed. Thanks for showcasing you're experience with the treatment! Show us how it was in 2008!

  • @PlayingHooksiesHair Unfortunately, that was before I became friends with my webcam, but I will find the picture I hid deeply below hundreds of other pictures. I did this because seeing it almost brought me to tears, had me kicking myself for my stupidity (my son warned me not to let my stylist do the BKT), & it had me desperately wanting to seek out an attorney to sue my stylist for negligence. Once I find it I will share it though. There must be a purpose - maybe to help me go natural???

  • @PlayingHooksiesHair Oh, I forgot to say thanks for the kind words! :-)

  • @koweeta Thanks for the reply. Is "fufyl" an acronym or just a play on the word fulfill? I am going to look it up. Thanks!

  • It sounds like your issue was related to over processing your hair with many different chemicals, not just the brazilian????

  • @ItsAllNewGrowth Nah uh... I was letting my stylist give me a touch up every 8 weeks (it used to be 12 weeks+ until my stylist talked me into go back to 8 -- I think this caused my hair to get thinner), and I would get the gray colored two weeks later by her. Aside from that, I used no other harsh chemicals. She started doing the BKT treatment in her PR@Partners salon, so "she" said that it might be a good alternative to relaxing for me as I complained about my hair getting thinner.

  • @ItsAllNewGrowth Pt. 2 -- The SEVERE breakage did not occur until AFTER the BKT she performed. That is the first time the texture changed, and actual, widespread breakage occured. That has never been my experience in 30+ years of relaxing. Relaxing was bad, but for me, this was infinitely worse: -( Sometimes I wonder if it was the product, the stylist's application or the excessive heat of all the flat ironing. Can't speak on anyone else, but this has been my experience.

  • It sounds like your issue was related to over processing your hair with many different chemicals, not just the brazilian????

  • @koweeta What's the name of it? "mizani Fufyl" I am getting ready to try some new anti-breakage products by Carol's Daughter. Hopefully it will help. Thanks!

  • okay when i was at penn state the salon cut 4 inches. now my hair is almost back. to grow and thicken use b and b castor oil mositurizer, use carrot oil, cocunut oil, shea butter oil and use pureology shampoo silky smooth. im black and it works. oil your hair daily and moisturize twice daily and braid ur hair like indians do.

  • @ihopveggan The castor oil and Pureology products have not given me any noticeable results (only dryness for the shampoos), but I am open to trying the carrot, shea butter and coconut oils and moisturizing daily. I wish I knew how to braid! :-) Thanks so much for sharing.

  • wow i cant believe you're in your 40s! You age really well. :)

  • @xXlargsoelXx Thanks so much! To use a term from the South, "Chile, it requires work!" I tell my husband and the boys if you like me looking like this, there is time involved, so "don't be rushing me"! I appreciate your post though! Take Care & Be Blessed!

  • stop talking about your books stick to what the video is about

  • Thank you. I live in brazil and i had already scheduled BKT (escova progressiva, as they call it here), but luckly i landed on this video and now i am rethinking i better stick to my lovely natural curls.

  • Thank you. I live in brazil and i had already scheduled BKT (escova progressiva, as they call it here), but luckly i landed on this video and now i am rethinking i better stick to my lovely natural curls. thanks for the info

  • Thanks so much, I will do! Can you believe I used to go to 14 or 15 weeks when my hair was its longest and healthiest. However, my stylist convinced me that my hair was healthy enough to go down to 8 weeks, and because it was easier, and I trusted her, I did. She also does not believe in the value of deep conditioning -- I bought into that as well, when I know better. I think I got lazy and lost sight of what I know to do. What a boob! :-) Thanks for the advice though!

  • Thanks for sharing that - you should look at other youtubers that stretch relaxer for 12 to 16 weeks - they implement some conditioning and styling techniques that are effective - good luck :)

  • Hope u got rid of your stylist

  • I wish you would stop blaming the keratin treatment for your hair woes. 14 weeks between relaxers causes breakage. You need a new hair stylist

  • I wish you would stop blaming the keratin treatment for your hair woes

  • Personally, I think you'd look great with a TWA :) but I understand not wanting to do a BC. I had a bad BKT experience as well yet couldn't bring myself to BC and my hair was not even as long as yours. Why don't you transition for 15-16 weeks and then *consider* cutting your hair? Your growth rate is stellar and I think you and your hair might be happier if you let the damaged ends be and start working from scratch with one texture. Again, that's JMO. I wish you the best on your journey!!

  • Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I'm a natural and was looking for a product to temporarily straighten my hair so I could switch up my look. I had been looking into the Marcia products, but that idea is scratched now. It took me too long to get over the damage I did using chemicals in the past to take any more chances. Thanks again!

  • No worries about a late response. It was actually very timely because as I processed some of the comments about me cutting off all of my hair and going natural. I realized, as crazy/wrong I may be, I will probably never do that unless something more drastic happens. You are right, I have nursed my hair back to health before, and it can be done. So thanks for the sanity check and the reminder that I can come back for this. I really appreciate the encouragement, and I will take your advice.

  • Sorry so late. Please don't cut all of your hair off! I get so tired of people recommending tha others cut all of their hair off. I have had major set backs myself and have nursed my hair back to health it can be done. Please just baby it and it will come back. You know your stuff. I noticed no one mentions or even knows that you are the one who started airdrying the hair straight without using heat...Girl do you and it will work out just fine!

  • Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. Sometimes you need to step back and like you said, go back to what works. Like I said it was my fault because I grew weary of doing what I know to do, and I took bad advice. I am going to take back control of my hair, and do what I know to do. However, I am not brave enough to cut it all off and start over as some have suggested. Even in its sad state, I can get it to look pretty decent, and I already see improvement. Thx for the encouragement!

  • Carolyn, I bought both your books and i believe that you know your hair.

go back to what works for your hair. It still looks beautiful . And don't listen to those stylist what does her hair look like?

  • Thx for this info, I am transitioning and I heard alot of people say they use the BKT treatment to help them get through their transition I was skeptical about the treatment and you have confirmed my fears. Don't worry you can recover from this, do plenty of deep condtioning treatments and keep your hair moisturized, also try very hard to stretch those relaxers out your hair will be happier. I know transitioning is the best decision I know I made for my hair.
